What is Practice Fusion?

Practice Fusion is a cloud-based Electronic Health Record (EHR) system designed to streamline healthcare operations for small and independent medical practices. Founded in 2005, the company was later acquired by Allscripts in 2018. It partners with some leading medical billing software companies, such as AdvancedMD and Kareo, to provide seamless clinical and billing experience for its clients.

Practice Fusion treats over 5 million patients per month and assists medical facilities in increasing efficiency, production, and profitability. Key features include appointment scheduling, charting, e-prescribing, imaging, labs integration, self-service portal, etc.

In addition, Practice Fusion EHR clients have access to support via email, phone calls, or live chat. Apart from regular on-site or online training, the company also has a built-in learning center.

The solution caters to the needs of a wide range of specialty practices, including cardiology, dermatology, physical therapy, mental health, and internal medicine. Moreover, the web-based platform is optimized for both iPad and tablet, allowing users full access to appointments, records, and charting during patient encounters and daily rounds.

enhances prescription accuracy through automatic drug-drug and drug-allergy interaction checks. Additionally, it facilitates faster medication access for patients by transmitting prescriptions to any e-prescribing-enabled pharmacy nationwide.

How Much Does Practice Fusion Cost?

Practice Fusion's price begins at $199/month/provider excluding taxes and requiring an annual commitment. This base subscription provides access to the full EHR platform, including charting, e-prescribing, scheduling, reporting, and messaging. Pricing may vary slightly based on negotiation, practice size, or additional services. The vendor also offers a free 14-day trial, so you can familiarize yourself with the tool.

In addition to the base subscription costs, organizations should account for the following expenses that can be incurred based on industry benchmark:

  • Implementation And Onboarding: Generally estimated to be $3,000–$12,500 for small practices; $12,500–$25,000+ for larger or complex deployments, including setup, workflow configuration, and staff training
  • Billing Services (Optional): May incur the cost $250–$600 per provider/month, depending on claim volume and outsourcing arrangement
  • Data Migration/Legacy System Integration: Can be from $3,000 to $10,000+ depending on data volume and complexity
  • Integrations And Add-Ons: Estimated to be $15,000–$40,000 for standard lab, billing, or API integrations; $40,000–$100,000+ for more complex or multi-system integrations
  • Support And Maintenance: Basic support included; premium/priority support may cost $3,000–$20,000 per year
  • Initial Cost: May range between $25,000-$50,000
  • Annual Cost: Typically start from $15,000 to $30,000

Users generally find Practice Fusion’s pricing affordable and reasonable for small practices, but some note that the limited transparency, recent price increases, and additional module costs can raise overall expenses, especially for growing or multi-provider practices.

Thoughtfully designed but is costly

Pros

The software is thoughtfully designed and very well integrated, making it very easy to use. I also found the pricing fair and the tool extremely helpful in my day-to-day work.

Complete EMR!

Pros

From my perspective, this works as a full EMR built for therapy practices covering scheduling, billing, goal tracking and documentation all in one setup. I appreciate having ready-made templates for goals and notes because they help reduce repetitive work during sessions.

Cons

One thing that stands out for me is that I can't make certain appointment types or labels match the exact categories my clinic uses. I also notice that reaching customer support sometimes takes longer than I'd like, especially when I need a quick answer to keep work moving.
