Key Takeaways

Generated from the text of customer reviews

Practice Fusion EHR is a cloud-based platform built primarily for small to midsize medical practices. Its seamless laboratory integration is often positively highlighted by users, while challenges with billing features have also been reported. A recent update to its ePrescribing workflow introduced prescription task delegation, allowing practitioners to delegate specific prescribing responsibilities to authorized clinical staff.

Our Verdict

Practice Fusion is best suited for independent and physician-owned practices that want a straightforward EHR with strong core clinical functionality. Its integrated e-prescribing, laboratory connectivity, customizable charting templates, and browser-based access offer providers an accessible and interconnected system. Though healthcare practitioners with detailed revenue cycle or billing requirements should evaluate its billing capabilities before implementation.

Practice Fusion Features

FollowMyHealth

Practice Fusion integrates with FollowMyHealth, Veradigm's patient-facing personal health record (PHR), to give patients secure access to their health information outside the clinic. Patients can review their own health information, check lab and diagnostic results, and book appointments. Providers can also securely share post-care education.

Smart Charting

Charting templates in Practice Fusion can be customized to match a practice's preferred way of documenting patient visits. The system includes keyword-based search for diagnosis codes, so a provider isn't scrolling through an entire code set mid-visit. With specialty-specific flowsheets, it also lets providers track a patient's health data longitudinally. Additionally, it supports integrated dictation and transcription, including compatibility with Dragon and uploaded audio files, allowing clinicians to create notes with less manual typing while keeping voice recordings organized within the patient record.

Lab Integration

Practice Fusion enables providers to order laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging directly from the patient's chart. Once the tests are done, results are delivered electronically into the EHR, where abnormal values are flagged to help providers quickly identify findings that require follow-up. Results can then be shared securely with patients through the integrated patient portal. Clinical information and diagnostic reports can also be exchanged with referring providers to support coordinated care without relying on paper records or manual faxing.

Medical Billing Solution

Practice Fusion's integrated medical billing software helps practices manage revenue cycle tasks alongside clinical workflows within the same platform. It supports claim creation and tracking, payment posting, insurance enrollment, financial reporting, and an integrated clearinghouse to streamline claims processing. For practices that prefer to outsource revenue cycle management, Practice Fusion also offers optional billing services, where a dedicated billing team assists with tasks such as claims submission, denial management, payer credentialing, and financial reporting.

Thoughtfully designed but is costly

Pros

The software is thoughtfully designed and very well integrated, making it very easy to use. I also found the pricing fair and the tool extremely helpful in my day-to-day work.

Cons

Overall, I started to notice it became costly to keep using and several features felt like they were falling behind competitors. On top of that I experienced customer support that was inconsistent and sometimes unavailable when I needed help.

Easy to use for expanding practices

Pros

Practice Fusion is easy to use and has helped our practice expand as we keep growing. For a privately run clinic like ours, this capability is absolutely essential.

Cons

I have noticed the interface could use refreshes in certain spots. A few features come across as slightly outdated although they don't actually impair how the system works.

Complete EMR!

Pros

From my perspective, this works as a full EMR built for therapy practices covering scheduling, billing, goal tracking and documentation all in one setup. I appreciate having ready-made templates for goals and notes because they help reduce repetitive work during sessions.

Cons

One thing that stands out for me is that I can't make certain appointment types or labels match the exact categories my clinic uses. I also notice that reaching customer support sometimes takes longer than I'd like, especially when I need a quick answer to keep work moving.
