Finding Open Shifts On Android Devices

OpenShifts on When I Work becomes available when your employer posts shifts that you and your coworkers can choose to pick up. Once you claim an Open Shift, it’s automatically added to your schedule. Below are the steps for assessing OpenShifts on Android devices: 

  • Launch the When I Work Scheduling app on your Android device 
  • On the Dashboard, locate the ‘Open Shifts Available’ card

  • Click on the card to see a list of upcoming OpenShifts 
  • Browse through the shifts and tap on any shift to view more details

  • If you're eligible, select ‘Take Shift’ to add it to your schedule

Important Notes:

  • Shift Bidding: If a manager enables shift bidding; your request will be submitted for approval rather than being instantly assigned 

Finding Open Shifts On iOS Devices

Here are some steps for finding OpenShifts on iOS devices: 

  • Open the When I Work Staff Scheduling app on your iOS device 
  • On the Dashboard, find and click on the ‘Open Shifts Available’ card

  • To see additional options, click on ‘View All in Schedule’ at the bottom of the screen 
  • Select the Open Shift you'd like to take by tapping on it

Important Notes: 

  • Shift Availability: What you see may vary depending on your employer’s settings 
  • Approval Process: Some shifts may need manager's approval before they appear on your schedule 

Additional Considerations

  • All qualified and available employees can claim OpenShifts—unless a manager designates them for specific team members. In that case, only those selected employees will be able to see and pick up the shift
  • For Android users, the app displays up to 100 available shifts scheduled within the next 12 weeks
  • For iOS users, the mobile app displays up to 50 OpenShifts on the Dashboard. To view more, tap the Schedule tab at the bottom of the screen or access the web app
