Pros

Clio used to provide responsive and helpful customer support, but that was years ago! It was once easy for me to track and link payments to client matters, run insightful reports, and manage cloud-based documents, but lately, I've encountered a plethora of bugs.

Cons

It has numerous bugs, and its cloud-based document system tends to fail completely every few weeks, forcing me to reinstall the desktop launcher. Also, Clio unexpectedly removed certain features that allowed for linking card payments from Clio Scheduler, a sister program, which retroactively altered the way all prior card payments were categorized, throwing my firm's entire accounting system into disarray overnight. The tech support at Clio has proven to be inadequate, as they are often unaware of any serious issues I raise about the software. They routinely place me on hold to "talk to their team," stalling while asking for more screenshots of the problems I face, only to inform me a week later that they cannot assist. The software has really declined in quality and now seems like a costly collection of buggy integrations, paired with tech support that lacks understanding of their own product.

Pros

I transitioned to Clio because Thomson Reuters discontinued its Firm Central case management product, and I was in need of a replacement. Clio offers all the functionalities that Firm Central had, but it does so through a more logical, easier-to-navigate interface. I discovered that I could get started with minimal instruction. The onboarding process with Clio was highly effective.

Cons

Clio was designated as Thomson Reuters' preferred partner to replace Firm Central, so I expected their team to be better equipped to assist with the migration process from Firm Central to Clio. While their team did manage to migrate my data smoothly, that "data" didn't include documents, which were a significant portion of what I had stored in Firm Central. It didn't offer any guidance on transferring those documents and simply recommended three third-party vendors. I reached out to one that claimed to specialize in migrations to Clio, but they quoted me $3,000 just to upload my files into Clio, and I would still have to figure out how to extract them from Firm Central, which was my main hurdle. Once I had downloaded the files, uploading them to Clio was simple. Regardless, the instructions from Firm Central were helpful, and the process overall went fairly smoothly.
