Clearer click analytics alternative

Pros

Running all my product analytics through PostHog has given me a much clearer view of how customers interact with my product including clicks. It has a huge range of features and takes a lot of the hassle out of analytics. It processes events for me and lets me explore data in different formats like charts and diagrams without having to build those views from scratch. Also the product analytics side is especially useful. It tracks almost everything and works as a strong alternative to Google Analytics, giving me the key insights I need without requiring a consent banner. I also appreciate the feedback tools and feature flags which make collecting user feedback and ratings very easy. On top of that the team has a casual, fun style that feels refreshing as they use humor and never come across as pushy. Their documentation is also very thorough and covers pretty much anything I would need.

Cons

I haven't run into any downsides at this point as it does exactly what I need.

Self hosted complete control

Pros

The biggest win for OORB since adopting this platform is that running it as a self-hosted product analytics platform gives OORB complete control over its data while still delivering deep insight through autocapture and session replay. The biggest advantages are the unified event pipeline, quick feature flags, built-in A/B testing and session replay which cut down on instrumentation work and help my experiments and debugging move much faster.

Cons

As usage grows, scaling it can take a fair amount of operational effort along with memory tuning. A few of the more advanced features also come with limited documentation and can be harder for non-technical users to pick up.

Easy setup

Pros

What made PostHog my go-to tool from the beginning is that getting started with it is really easy and that's a huge advantage for me. The setup process feels simple and uncomplicated which is why it has become my go-to tool. On top of that it performs quite well overall for what I need.

Cons

The dashboard UI can feel a bit overwhelming at times.

Smooth onboarding AI wizard

Pros

One of the smoothest onboarding experiences I have had is that getting started with it was really easy and the AI setup wizard did a genuinely impressive job.

Cons

Dashboard UX seems a little complex and I had to spend some time figuring out how insights works for tracking events.

great for error tracking and product analytics

Pros

I mostly rely on PostHog for error tracking and product analytics and it gives me a much clearer understanding of how my product is performing. Plus it comes with a good range of tools and the interface is one of the parts I enjoy using the most.

Cons

At times it does get a bit complicated. The Next.js documentation is also duplicated and not always consistent. One section explains the installation in one specific way, while another part of the docs tells you to set it up differently. A few features, like the logs, are still things I haven't been able to get working.

Flexible user tracking

Pros

PostHog stood out for how flexible it is and how well it handles tracking. It gives me a clear view of user behavior and conversions and the analytics are strong while still being simple enough to use without needing ongoing help from technical staff. Everyone on my team can work with it comfortably and create custom dashboards as needed. The initial setup was fairly easy and I was able to begin collecting data almost immediately.

Cons

There is definitely a bit of a learning curve especially for non-technical users like me when it comes to the more advanced analytics and the interface can feel a little complex at times. More guided onboarding fromthe team behind this platform, along with simpler reporting options for non-technical users, would be very welcome improvements.

amazing for solo founder like me!!

Pros

Having session replay built in and working so well alongside other analytics tools has been a huge plus. The free tier is surprisingly generous and it covers a lot in one product, from user experience tracking to product analytics and developer insights. As a solo founder, getting all of that in a single platform is incredibly valuable.

Cons

This is only a small downside but getting full value from the dashboards takes a bit of learning and setup. That said, the documentation looks very good and seems helpful for getting through the configuration.

helpful recordings and insights

Pros

PostHog has been especially valuable to me because of the user recording feature. It honestly felt like a bit of a discovery since I hadn't realized that kind of tracking was even available. Being able to watch what users do, where they click and where they seem to get stuck has been incredibly useful for understanding points of confusion. The analytics side also does what I need, giving me a clearer picture of my customers and the problems they run into while using my product. For my still-small language learning product, it feels like a really nice fit. Overall, these features have been genuinely helpful in moving me toward my goals.

Cons

One thing that's still pretty frustrating is how inconsistent the user recordings seem to be. If I am seeing seven unique visitors, I naturally expect seven recordings but that's not what I am getting. I have looked through Google results and reached out tosupport for this platform and I still don't fully understand why. The explanation around merging didn't really clear things up for me because I still feel like every session should have a recording. I am also unsure about bulk deleting user recordings at the moment. When I select all the recordings, I don't see any clear delete button or option to remove them in one go.

All in one analytics workflow

Pros

Having PostHog as an all in one platform has been a big plus for me. It gives me a single flow from insight to root cause to fix which makes the whole process feel much more connected. Since the same user context carries across everything, there's a lot less jumping between tools and decisions happen faster. That level of integration has really helped streamline how I work.

Cons

Getting started withthis platformcan be a bit challenging because the learning curve is real. It takes some time to understand the best way to model things and at first it can feel a little overwhelming. For newer team members especially, the product'sdepth and power can make it easy to lose direction. We have handled that by intentionally keeping our setup simple.

helpful session replay insights

Pros

It has been really useful for analytics on my product especially when it comes to session replays and collecting evidence around my open source package. The session replay tool gives me a clear view of how people are actually using my product which helps a lot with spotting bugs and noticing UI elements that aren't being used the way I expected. Being able to watch what users are doing on the platform is both clear and valuable. I also appreciated that the initial setup and onboarding were simple and easy. I haven't come across another tool that offers this kind of quick setup while still providing such a generous range of features.

Cons

The thing that still bothers me is how complexthe platformfeels. Since I only go into it about once a week, I often need a bit of time to remember where the dashboards are. That part gets frustrating because I end up wasting seconds or even minutes just trying to locate the data I need. There's a lot happening in the interface that I don't really use and it can feel a bit overwhelming.

clean UI and useful dashboards

Pros

PostHog has been a great choice for me especially because it's GDPR-compatible which matters a lot since I really don't want to deal with cookie banners. I also appreciate the powerful query language and the clean interface. The free plan covers everything I need right now, at least until my projects start bringing in more revenue. On top of that the dashboards are easy to work with and the SDK is simple to use as well. I have particularly enjoyed working with the TypeScript browser and Node.js SDKs.

Cons

One thing that tripped me up was trying to build a dashboard graph from a custom query while using the dashboard's time filter. It wasn't clear to me how to reference the selected date range in the query or whether that filter gets applied automatically.

generous free tier and clear docs

Pros

One thing I have really enjoyed about PostHog is how generous the free tier is. It's also much simpler to understand and get started with than Google Analytics. The documentation is excellent and the AI text bot has been a really nice addition too.

Cons

I have been usingthis softwarefor less than a month at this point, so I honestly haven't run into anything I dislike yet. Nothing negative comes to mind right now.
