Beautiful to look at, easy to use

Pros

Right away the software felt very user friendly and the visual design made it even more enjoyable to work with.

Cons

One thing I didn't care for was that it would occasionally crash when working with very large data sets.

Total control over your reporting

Pros

Getting the data together and turning it into useful reports is very easy with Tableau. You can create filters for different employee levels, including executives, senior managers, managers and supervisors so each group sees the right view. It gives you a lot of control over both the data and the kind of reporting you need.

Cons

One downside is that it takes a fair amount of training to set users up properly and help them feel confident building the reports.

Analyze trends without overthinking

Pros

At work I rely on this tool to review award trends and track where they come from. It's a very useful option for analyzing data and it also works well during team meetings when we need to capture and discuss that information.

Cons

Every now and then, the tool glitches when I am working with multiple filters at the same time.

Maps and visuals that guide decisions

Pros

One thing that really stands out with Tableau is how many ways there are to customize dashboards and add extra flair to metrics. The visualization options are extensive and can make the data incredibly informative. I especially enjoy using it for map based visualizations. Everything looks very professional and clean and building visuals is something even non-technical users can pick up without much trouble.

Cons

Working through data aggregation and troubleshooting can be a bit challenging. There is not much transparency into how the numbers are being aggregated, like being able to clearly see the calculation steps so it takes a strong attention to detail to make sure everything is correct.

Leadership-ready visuals at your fingertips

Pros

The visualizations are top-notch and it works especially well for presenting insights to senior management. Performance is strong overall and it really supports better, faster decision-making.

Cons

There are times when it gets a bit laggy and if you're using the cloud-based version, a good internet connection is definitely necessary.

Drag-and-drop analytics for everyone

Pros

You can build everything with simple drag-and-drop actions so there's no need for any coding background. It's also mobile-friendly which makes it convenient to use across devices.

Cons

One thing that's still missing is automatic report refreshing. It also doesn't handle uncleaned data well so the data usually needs to be prepared first.

Flexible preparation with stunning results

Pros

The flexibility Tableau gives in both presenting information and preparing data is a big plus and its data analysis features really make the results look professional and insightful.

Cons

One downside is that it comes with a steeper learning curve than similar tools so it is not the best fit for someone just starting out as a data analyst.

Content reporting tools that help

Pros

One thing that really works well is being able to pull reports that show exactly what content our customers are viewing and then sort it by things like most popular or most downloaded.

Cons

One downside is that the reports often need to be refreshed manually because the auto-refresh feature does not always work reliably.

Analytics married to beautiful design

Pros

Tableau comes with many features. When a metric is complex and hard to visualize, it handles it efficiently and accurately.

Cons

Using it can seem quite complex and the professional user experience isn't always good. It does what it's built to do but that often comes with a learning curve and a lot of trial and error to get things working the way you expect.

Visualization options for every taste

Pros

A broad selection of visualization tools is one of the best things about it and it does an excellent job of helping represent data in different ways.

Cons

There isn't much to complain about right now though the first few times using it can feel a bit tricky for beginners.

A premier platform for data visualization

Pros

Getting started with this technology doesn't take long and it's one of the best options for viewing and presenting data in a visual format.

Cons

Scaling it can be a little tedious, mainly because the product's pricing is quite expensive.

Report and publish with confidence

Pros

Tableau comes with a wide range of features and creating as well as publishing reports across the organization is very easy. We can upload data directly from our system and receive reports and analysis back in our files without much hassle. Making changes is simple too and overall it feels like working with a well-designed piece of software.

Cons

Because there are so many reporting features available, it can occasionally be hard to decide which option to use. That wide variety sometimes ends up taking extra time.

Student insights through powerful dashboards

Pros

One thing that really stands out about Tableau is how quickly it becomes part of the workflow. It is easy to use, not hard to learn and incredibly powerful when it comes to visualization. Our student services team can track everything on a single dashboard, from enrollment and advising to course loads in specific classrooms. Getting everything configured does take some effort at first but once you work through that setup curve and have your datasets ready, it becomes very much a set-it-and-leave-it tool. Updating reports or making changes to dashboards is also very simple.

Cons

I'd really like to see a more affordable enterprise licensing option or at least a way to share dashboards with end users who only need viewing access and don't need to interact with the data. Because of federal and state data protection requirements, we're reluctant to host dashboards on an internal or external page so that limitation makes distribution harder than it should be.

Reusable templates for consistent reporting

Pros

Once the data is imported, the software makes it simple to sort, filter and run calculations. It offers a lot of functions for data analysis and visualization and I can save report formats to reuse again and again. After bringing in updated data, I can keep the same layout, click just a few buttons and my reports are refreshed quickly.

Cons

It does need format adjustments especially when working with EU number styles that use commas and periods differently because that can cause reading errors. There are also a lot of updates and they have to stay compatible with my MacBook version. If the MacBook gets updated first, it can mean paying extra to upgrade it as well. Personally I also feel that some of the visualization and chart options look a bit outdated.

Visual insights that make a difference

Pros

Being able to analyze everything through the visuals is incredibly helpful. It makes the important data much easier to read and understand at a glance.

Insights delivered through visual clarity

Pros

Handling a large client base across multiple geographies makes it challenging to track performance, churn figures, trends and what may come next. Tableau's visual approach helps a lot here especially when pulling data from Salesforce and arranging it in a way that is clear organized and easy to understand.

Cons

If you're new to the platform, it can feel a bit overwhelming at first so adding better in-app guidance and tutorials for new signups would make onboarding much better.

A unified source for all data

Pros

It gives us one reliable source of truth in a dashboard. It's the kind of tool you need when you want data displayed in a complete, cohesive and organized way.

Cons

As long as the data is refreshed regularly, you'll really appreciate how efficiently it presents key data points.
