Neat AI Assistance features for image labeling

Pros

Ango Hub has some excellent features that make it well-suited for image labeling. I've found the "Smart Scissors" tool to be particularly effective when handling inventory CCTV footage, which is what we typically work with. It significantly accelerates the labeling process. The FrameCut feature is decent too, though it doesn't quite match the efficiency of the scissors. It's also helpful that it supports multi-layer TIF, which, along with JPG, are our go-to formats.

Cons

Figuring out how to turn on or use the AI Assistance features is not immediately clear unless you go through the documentation. The same goes for some other functions. There are a few aspects of the interface that could definitely use some tweaking.

Great performance in image annotation

Pros

Our labeling projects often involve handling millions of images, and I've been impressed with Ango Hub's performance. Uploading files into the Hub has been almost instantaneous, and everything loads quickly and smoothly. Big credit to the development team for making it work so well. Although our annotators faced a bit of a learning curve in the beginning, they're now fully comfortable using Hub and are quite happy with it. The AI assistance has also been a huge help, particularly with the pre-trained models that saved us quite a bit of time.

Cons

The interface isn't exactly simple, and it takes a bit of time to get familiar with how everything works. It seems like labeling softwares aren't very "standardized" across the board. Going through the documentation once really helps make sense of it all.

Great software for complex image annotation tasks

Pros

The reason we picked it was mainly due to its robust support for complex image labeling tasks. The interface makes it simple to create and manipulate large polygons, and it's easy to copy, paste, or adjust them. I also appreciate the relations and rotated bounding boxes, not to mention the Smart Scissors tool, which is a nice bonus.

Cons

The layout is not completely user-friendly, so it took me a bit of time initially to grasp what each feature does. Importing images works quickly, but you do need to create a .json file to make it happen.

Fast, performant, and great team response

Pros

We had suggested a small feature to the Ango team that we thought might improve our workflow, and honestly, I didn't expect much to come of it. But the very next day, the feature was added! Their quick response was nothing short of impressive, and I doubt we would've seen such a fast turnaround from bigger softwares. Ango Hub's performance has been solid too, allowing us to complete our text classification tasks efficiently and without hassle.

Cons

Right now, labeling is not possible on anything other than desktop softwares, which isn't a major issue for us, but I figured others might want to be aware of that. The export formats are a bit limited, with only two available, so depending on your needs, you might have to do some conversions.

A must have if you annotate datasets of multiple types

Pros

We work with different models that need to be trained on various data types, one for audio and another for text transcripts. What I appreciate about Ango Hub is that we can use just one software to handle labeling for both. Our team is about 10 people, and I really like that we can track detailed statistics on everything happening in the workflow. Plus, the pricing is quite fair compared to similar products out there.

Cons

There isn't an option to zoom into audio waveforms, so if you're working with a long audio file, it can be tricky to get precise cuts. I'm hopeful they'll address this with an update.

Performant for video-based tasks

Pros

Even when handling heavy video tasks, the software performs seamlessly. We've done video classification with 4K samples and didn't encounter any visible problems. One thing I really like is how we can import data into Hub without needing to move it from its current location on the server, we just provide Hub with links to where the data is stored.

Cons

The only video format supported right now is .mp4, which means we often have to convert our videos, and that can take up some time. It would be awesome if .avi or .mov files could be uploaded directly.

Functional and feature-rich for PDF annotation

Pros

Our workflow requires a large volume of PDF files to be labeled, and Ango Hub has been exceptional for that. Our PDFs are stored on S3, and importing them into the software was super easy, we just created a .json with links to our files, and they were good to go. While there are a few shortcuts to get used to initially, the labeling process quickly became easy, and before long, we were working much faster. The ability to run full-text searches on PDFs is a huge time-saver as well.

Cons

Some shortcuts are a bit awkward to use at first and not immediately clear. You do get the hang of it eventually, but there's a bit of a learning curve. Figuring out how to install and activate the AI Assistance plugins wasn't super obvious either.

Ango Hub for AI Researchers A friend in need is a friend indeed

Pros

Ango Hub is both a flexible and highly adaptable software. While it offers precise and highly accurate labeling for most standard machine learning applications, its architecture is flexible enough to accommodate more specialized use cases as well.

Cons

The only downside I see is with data sharing. In the future, I think there will be a drag-and-drop feature that'll make starting the labeling process faster and easier.

Very much ahead in document labeling

Pros

it handles PDFs really well. You can have a group of people annotate the same PDF, and it will automatically calculate their consensus score. It's easy to highlight text or draw boxes around sections of text, and the software will do OCR for you. You can also draw relationships between labels in an easy way. In terms of PDF capabilities, I'd say Ango Hub is ahead of the competition. Most other softwares force you to convert PDFs to images, which is inconvenient because you end up losing the text layer.

Cons

It might just be a personal annoyance, but Ango Hub is not really optimized for mobile use right now. Most people will use it on their desktop, so it's not a big problem. But sometimes I want to check my colleagues' annotations on my phone, and it's not ideal. I reached out to them about it, and they did say it's something they're working on.

Ango Hub works well in teams, allows for collaboration between annotators and reviewers

Pros

This is the first software I've come across that has strong collaboration features. Our labelers can leave comments, flag certain labels, open issues, and so on. There's also a wealth of labeling statistics available right from the dashboard, which is especially useful for us since we have a medium-sized in-house labeling team. Setting up and using the software has been easy and so far, we haven't encountered any issues with our image labeling tasks.

Cons

Drag-and-drop makes importing data easy, but pulling in assets from the cloud requires creating a .json file with individual URLs right now. I'd love to see a one-click cloud import option instead.
