“Gets things done

Pros

It is fast and simple to use with excellent quality. Also there is a wide range of voices, accents and tones available. Overall I think it is a great tool for quickly converting text to speech.

Cons

When I create long texts I usually split them into smaller parts and generate each one separately. So it would be great if Play.ht improved its file system to better organize these related pieces together because right now it is not very straightforward.

“Subscription didn't work out for me

Pros

Some of the voices sounded really natural and I find the whole process easy and simple to work with.

Cons

We chose this service to voice our training videos and were happy with it during the free trial so we bought an annual subscription for an employee. But we ran into a big problem as the subscription was bought via a Google account and we can't actually use it. To transfer it we need to set a password,but the reset links don't work or just redirect us to the login page with no way to set anything. Well we have reached out to support many times asking for help to set a password, transfer the account or get a refund since the subscription is useless to us but got no reply. Also it is frustrating that we spent money on something we cannot use so now we have to find another solution. Overall we are very disappointed in their support.

“Great for realistic voice output

Pros

They offer very realistic voices so I definitely recommend their service.

Cons

Not a complaint but a personal preference I guess as I like websites that have navigation at the top as it makes finding things much easier.

Play.ht is very simple to use, really enjoyable and I simply love their customer support as it is the best.

“Filled with so many issues

It uses voice technology from several cloud providers which helps us create audio for different needs across our team.

Cons

The voice creation features are strong but the admin controls aren't. As the account owner I need to make sure other teams do not change audio projects made elsewhere but there is no way to prevent that as of 11/7/2023. Also support and pricing have been unclear. They swapped account managers without a proper handoff and the price jumped by 23 times within a year for no clear explanation.

“It is my go-to for voice in blogs

Pros

The voices are excellent and Jennifer is my favorite but there are plenty of other great options are also available. Plus I love how easy it is to add AI-read audio to my blog posts. And the podcast feature makes it easy for listeners to find my content.

Cons

I wish I had more control over the podcast feature like editing episode and description details myself. Also it'd be nice if voice reading for blogs was automatic though that's a minor thing.

“They always had my back

Pros

The support I got from Play.ht was outstanding. Joel was amazing as he helped me through every step, responded quickly and solved problems when I got stuck which was often since I'd never used this app before. Also I really like his patience and commitment which helped me overcome the learning curve and produce audio that exceeded my expectations.

Cons

Well the Australian accents offered in the app were disappointing. Many voices sounded more British or American than Australian which made it hard to find authentic Aussie accents. Plus finding the right voice took way longer than it should because I had to listen to lots of unsuitable options. They definitely need a better and more genuine range of Australian voices.

I did not use it for long because I did not need it much but overall it's a great tool. And I am sure there have been many updates leading to this solid version.

Cons

Nothing major but I do feel like more diversity in voices and artists is needed.

Pros

Play.ht platform is user friendly and lets us take written content from a document and turn it into audio files in just minutes.

Cons

There were some server errors last month but they usually get fixed within about 20 minutes. So I have nothing major to share.

I really like the support team as they are highly responsive, helpful and fix issues right away. Plus they are very friendly and supportive.

Cons

The studio editor still runs slowly and could use some quality improvements like letting us adjust tone and emotion for multiple paragraphs all at once instead of individually.

“App works great and support is even better

Pros

Well I have tried voices in English, Spanish, French, Chinese and Vietnamese. Each language has lots of great options. Plus native speakers have told me the voices sound very realistic.

Cons

Every now and then you might hear a faint chirp or beep in the final audio. However changing the sequence usually fixes it. And let me make it clear that it happened less than ten times out of over 500 files.

“Worked well for narrating content

Pros

What drew me to Play.ht is the unlimited regeneration and file count. Unlike others they don't restrict foul language. I am making audiobooks with 25 to 30 different voices per book so unlimited regeneration is essential. And I am not a perfect author so being able to fix mistakes freely is priceless. Plus I haven't found another tool with this many features. Overall it is easy to use and has everything I need to produce my books.

Cons

I got it during a year end sale so the price was affordable. Otherwise I would not have been able to afford it. Though vrsion 2.0 is still in Beta so not everything works perfectly yet but I am hopeful it'll be worth it in the future. Also it'd be helpful to have a detailed user manual so hopefully one comes out soon.

They have an incredible AI voice generator and they offer the best customer support like I have never ever experienced such support before.

Cons

I think it would be great if the character limit could be raised a bit.
