Powerful calibration and asset hub

Pros

There's a lot of potential here. It handles almost everything and you can link it with your asset manager and/or ERP to keep both your assets and their related calibrations managed together in one place.

Cons

Getting it up and running can be a little difficult without support.

Handy filters and label printing

Pros

Working in Beamex CMX has been very simple. The filter option helps a lot when I need to pull up specific position IDs or other variables quickly. The lbl function is also really useful because instead of writing out hundreds of calibration labels by hand, I can just choose the labels I need and send them directly to the label maker. The audit trail is another valuable feature especially for tracking hysteresis. I also prefer having calibration certificates stored electronically rather than keeping hard copies in a filing cabinet.

Cons

The only thing I'm not a fan of is the limited number of positions included unless we pay more to expand the database.

Powerful calibration setup

Pros

the calibration sheets present information clearly and the guided wizards make it simple to build out the database. The testing procedures are also highly configurable which gives a lot of flexibility for different calibration needs.

Cons

At times there are so many options that getting started can feel a bit overwhelming. Setting up testing procedures may also take some extra time the first few times around especially when working with a new instrument.

smart calculations save time

Pros

A big advantage is that you don't need to enter the exact points manually, like 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% because Beamex calculates those values for you automatically.

Cons

One difficulty is calibrating at zero when using the "calibration of read value" option and that can lead to an error showing up on the calibration certificate.

Reliable database and usability

Pros

The database is simple to access and adding new information is just as uncomplicated. I had never worked with anything similar before and honestly, I wouldn't want to switch to another system now.

Cons

There really isn't much to complain about. The only limitation comes from our company's setup since we're not allowed to install software on our computers ourselves so we have to go through the IT department whenever third-party software needs to be added.

Helpful automated calibration tracking

Pros

I really appreciate that the software can generate calibration certificates automatically. It also automatically shows which positions are due for calibration which helps a lot with keeping track of everything.

Cons

Whenever there is a change to the calibration procedures, updating it is difficult because I have to go into each position one by one and make the changes individually.

automation helps but approval limits hurt

Pros

Once all the positions are entered, the system is quite simple to work with and handles a lot automatically. It also provides a solid overall overview which is helpful in daily use.

Cons

Since we send equipment out for external calibration, we really need an option to simply approve the calibration or certificate, maybe through a lighter version. A node also does not turn red when something is due for calibration which would be useful. The database feels very restrictive because only one user can use the license at a time, while it would make much more sense if several people could at least have read-only access simultaneously. We also need the Error Calculation Method to support conditions like "greater than" a value and that option is currently missing. On top of that, the screen layout keeps changing and after making and saving a change, the system throws you out of position so if several edits are needed, you have to find your place again. It is also not possible to enter the calibration strategy while creating the procedure.

reliable calibration archive

Pros

Every calibration is stored in the system and I can quickly pull up any information tied to any position. That makes it really valuable for the work I do.

Cons

If the calibration interval needs to be updated for multiple positions, I can't make those changes in one batch from my end.

POWERFUL audit trail and history

Pros

Connecting with external equipment is simple and the audit trail and history trending features are really strong. The plant structure is also very useful when you're working with a team spread out across different locations.

Cons

It can feel like there's almost too much functionality at times and I do have a few minor frustrations with the requirement to complete certain tabs before saving. For instance, you have to assign a model module for a calibrator before the record can be saved.

Amazing tag capacity overall

Pros

Coming from QD3, CMX has been a solid step up in terms of capability. The database can handle a large number of tag numbers and it's especially useful that multiple instruments can be managed under a single TAG number.

Cons

One limitation has been a real problem for us because our company has five factories and many of them use TAG numbers with the same names. CMX does not allow duplicate tag numbers such as PS-1 and the workaround suggested by support.. adding extra characters like _ or - to make them different.. is not practical for us. On top of that, report customization is far from user-friendly. We spent hours trying to build our own report and still ended up with only part of what we needed.

many tools and reliable support

Pros

Getting started with Beamex CMX is very simple and the system feels simple to work with. The ongoing upgrades that add new tools are a real plus and the support from Beamex has been very solid. Having local representatives available also makes a big difference when help is needed.

Cons

The licensing model is the part that causes frustration. After purchasing the first license, every additional license requires you to include all the same options selected in the original one which drives up the cost and makes it harder to justify expanding the number of licenses.

Reliable logging and scheduling

Pros

It's reliable, user-friendly and lets us work without relying on pen and paper. The data logging works well and the scheduling features help keep everything organized, along with several other useful functions.

Cons

There's still room for improvement in the design, data management, calibration reviews and records and scheduling. A floating server-based setup for multi-user access would also make it much better.

flexible calibration certificates

Pros

Using Beamex CMX feels very simple, with a high level of customization and the ability to generate personalized calibration certificates that match each individual instrument.

Cons

Promising calibration management

Pros

We're still in the early phase of setting up our calibration documentation system but CMX already comes across as very user-friendly and has the features and functions we need. At the same time, we're exploring how it can connect with our other maintenance management systems and we're optimistic it will help us strengthen our calibration procedures in line with best practices.

Cons

we haven't run into any real problems. That said we still need to fully confirm how well CMX will integrate with our other maintenance management systems and we expect that process may bring more challenges compared with using it as a standalone system.
