“Easy navigation but connectivity gaps”

Pros

One thing it does well is present requirements and baselines in both tree and list views which makes navigation more structured. It also includes an API so there's at least some ability to extend it and connect it with other tools.

Cons

Joining a large program with Digital Thread requirements, the weak connectivity to other tools was disappointing right away. Deleting a requirement also removes it from previous baselines which is a serious problem. The object limit is too restrictive for very large projects. During reviews, the screen jumps back to the first requirement in the pane after marking one as reviewed which breaks the workflow. Trace views don't display the full requirement text so users have to export the data just to properly analyze traceability. Also, the documentation feels glossy and management-focused rather than detailed and practical and performance slows down noticeably when the project gets large.

“user friendly menus”

Pros

Layout feels comfortable to work with and moving through the menus and screens is very user friendly.

Cons

It can feel a bit intimidating when using it for the first time.

“Great jira integration”

Pros

Integrates with Jira which is really helpful if you use that platform to track issues as a developer.

Cons

Quite expensive, I must say and when you export a document, for example to Excel, the formatting gets lost.

“efficient requirements traceability”

Pros

The platform does a solid job with requirements and change management especially when it comes to keeping upstream and downstream relationships connected across requirements, use cases, design and tests.

Cons

Biggest downside is the cost since it is very expensive for an organization to keep using long term. Also, exporting documents takes a lot of adjustments before the final output looks presentable.

“speeds up my work”

Pros

Keeping requirements organized is much simpler with this and it's been really helpful for collaborating with other engineers around requirement development. Jama Reviews and the change workflow are simple to roll out and use and the addition of e-signatures for approvers has been especially important for baselining requirements.

Cons

A challenge is that separating admin permissions from create permissions has been difficult although Jama has recently made some admin-related changes that have improved things. The baselining capability also feels limited since items are baselined per review whether they were approved or rejected.

“collaborative decisions done right”

Pros

It works really well as a collaborative platform especially for group decision-making and keeping a clear record of those decisions. It also does a solid job as an information archive and presentation space and overall it's simple to use.

Cons

Training process was more tiring than expected and ended up taking longer than anticipated. Managing reviews and keeping the workflow on track also required more oversight than I would have liked.

“powerful traceability”

Pros

Right from the start, Jama feels very user-friendly and comes with a lot of user friendly functionality. It handles requirement traceability really well and the versioning features are also very useful. The way filters work is better implemented than in most competing tools on the market.

Cons

Text editor can be a bit challenging for someone using it for the first time and could be made more user friendly. The filtering feature, while strong, could still be made more convenient to use.

“Multiple people can work together!”

Pros

Keeping track of changes in Jama is one of the best parts. When putting together a document, it makes collaboration much simpler than Word because multiple people can work on it at the same time.

Cons

Since it works differently from other document software some users have a tougher time getting used to it at first.

“An affordable web-based option”

Pros

Being web-based makes it a much more affordable alternative to DOORS. The learning curve is quite gentle and it doesn't require professional IT engineers to keep the system running.

Cons

Importing and exporting data is extremely inconvenient. At the moment, it only supports exporting to Excel and the exported sheet doesn't match the format shown in it so I end up spending a lot of time reformatting everything in Excel. Integration with third-party tools also isn't ideal especially for things like EA and GitHub.

“flexible tracking for FDA requirements”

Pros

Jama's biggest advantage is how it sets up a flexible, simple system for tracking system, sub-system and component requirements for a product our company is preparing to get FDA approved.

Cons

After spending some time in the software and figuring out how we wanted to use it, it became fairly simple. At the beginning though, it took a bit of time to understand the workflow.

“Amazing traceability and alerts”

Pros

There's a lot of functionality here and it works especially well for complex requirement traceability. The notification system is also extremely good and keeps everything on track.

Cons

It can feel a bit sluggish at times. Also, without the enterprise license, the number of users who can stay logged in at the same time is limited.

“Well-organized!”

Pros

After using Jama for more than a year and a half, one thing that really stands out is how neatly all the requirements are organized in the system. The search feature works well too, when I enter a keyword, it pulls up all the related requirements right away. I also appreciated the requirement review feature in it. It keeps all comments properly stored so I can check whether anything is still open and track the closure of questions or comments raised during the review process. The notification service has also been quite good.

Cons

At the same time, it could definitely improve its loading speed and navigation since the lag is sometimes quite noticeable. The homepage does include all the important information but the overall GUI could use some refinement to make it look more appealing. I would also prefer an auto-login option using the Windows login password, like other tools I use because having to manually enter the Windows username and password every time to access Jama gets inconvenient.
