Tailored for construction projects

Pros

This software was clearly built for tracking and controlling job costs and billing customers smoothly and honestly, it does that really well. It's not just an accounting package with a job add-on and that makes a huge difference. When I enter payroll or payables, the job costs update right away, so I'm not doing the same work twice. For example, entering payroll updates the employee ledger, tax reporting, workers' comp, job cost, pre-tax reporting and more. The reporting features are massive�there are over 100 built-in reports plus the ability to design custom ones. What I really like is how easy it is to use with just the keyboard instead of switching between the mouse and keyboard all the time. Everyone doing data entry appreciates that.

Cons

Honestly, there's not much I don't like about this software. The only part I struggle with is checking the custom report setup, it's a bit tricky for me. Funny thing is, other people in my company find it pretty easy to use, so maybe that's just me.

Keeping things organized

Pros

I find it very reliable and efficient. It really covers everything a construction company needs, AP, AR, payroll, banking and of course all the job-related stuff.

Cons

I wish the worker's compensation audit reports had a little more detail. For example, it would be awesome if the gross wages were broken down into regular pay and overtime pay instead of just showing the total combined amount.

Overall good tool

Pros

The tabs and areas we use are easy to understand and very simple. This system has made it simple for us to log and manage supplier invoices while keeping them separate from other projects or general purchases. Payroll, taxes and all payroll-related stuff are handled without hassle. I'm the kind of person who likes to click around and explore, and I've found it easy to figure out how to use different parts of the system. There's just a lot of genuinely helpful stuff in this software.

Cons

There are definitely some areas of the software that feel hard to use or even kind of inaccessible but I'll admit that might just be because I don't fully know the system yet. That said, the parts I use for our business are pretty straightforward and easy to handle.

User friendly system

Pros

The job costing module is very user-friendly and makes it easy for us to keep track of how each job is doing every week.

Cons

One thing that bugs me about the job costing reports is that you can't pull up results for just a specific state. Like, if I want only Washington jobs or only California jobs, there's no way to filter it that way.

25+ years with this software

Pros

It may be simple but it's really powerful. We can export data to Excel or Word, job cost all of our project and produce financial statements on whatever schedule we need�daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly. On top of that, we can merge multiple companies into a single financial statement which is huge for us.

Cons

We really don't have any complaints. If something ever comes up, the technical support team gets on it quickly and fixes the problem without trouble.

Great quality software

Pros

We've been using BIS for more than ten years now and it's been great. It records and processes all our accounting transactions in real time, and the modules are simple enough for our accountants to use with no issues. Updating and customizing reports is easy and we've been able to integrate with other systems without much trouble. Their customer service team has been amazing the whole way.

Cons

I honestly don't have anything negative to say. The software does exactly what we need it to do and has turned into a really useful tool for our company.

Easy-to-use accounting software

Pros

Editing invoices is easy with this software. If I ever make a mistake, it's simple to go back and find it, then fix it right away.

Cons

No cons at all cuz it's been solid for us.

Works well for a small business

Pros

I think this software is perfect for a small company like ours. Anytime I call, the vendor gets back to me quickly and they're always super pleasant and helpful. Honestly, their customer service is the best part of the whole program.

Cons

This feels like it comes from a smaller software company. Their customer service is great but I think the program is missing some technology in certain areas. For instance, paycheck stubs don't clearly show things like prevailing wage hours versus regular rate hours. They've said updates are coming but right now that's an issue. Certified payroll reports really need an affidavit page added too. Another problem is that multiple companies can't share information with each other which forces us into double data entry when dealing with staffing companies, subcontractors and our main business.

Best product compared to the rest

Pros

I think this is just a great system overall. It's really all-in-one with real-time accounting, job costing, payroll, reporting, estimating, scheduling, document handling, all in one package.

Cons

There's nothing about this product that I dislike. It just works and keeps our business running smoothly.

Easy to use

Pros

It's been really easy to teach new users how to work with this system. The reports are simple enough that even field staff can understand them. I love how we can export data to Excel and Word which saves us a lot of time on Time and Materials work. Clients get clean, smooth reports with just the info they need. Another thing I appreciate is that we can set up to nine entities in the system if needed and small businesses like ours can add modules as we grow and can afford them. The real-time posting of job costs is fantastic. When we enter AP invoices or write checks, the costs show up in the jobs immediately. Our field staff can see same-day updates as soon as payroll is posted. Honestly I don't get why anyone would outsource payroll when this makes it so easy. With BIS, we've got the info right away, not a week later.

Cons

Every accounting system has its drawbacks but I've worked with others that were so messy and confusing that even reading reports was painful. Compared to those, this is way better. My only complaint is that you have to buy a separate module if you want to do custom reports. We've been getting around that by just using the export feature to make our own customized reports.
