Uploading files is so easy

Pros

Getting files uploaded is about as simple as it gets and the way it slides right into our existing customer systems without any fuss is a huge weight off my shoulders.

Cons

Well the price tag on this thing is a real hurdle especially when you're running a smaller operation like ours that's still trying to grow.

handles files like a champ

Pros

It handles files like a champ no matter what shape or size they come in. Super flexible and never complains.

Cons

The more you use it, the more the cost creeps up on you. Scales terribly if you're watching your budget.

Can't delete files in bulk easily

Pros

Managing uploads used to be a whole thing but now it's smooth sailing. Converting stuff and pushing multiple files at once barely looks like a task anymore.

Cons

There's no simple way to wipe out files you don't need anymore. Right now we've got half a million files sitting there that we're trying to delete and we're getting hit with an extra five hundred bucks a month just for stuff we don't even want. Good luck getting anyone to help you with it either. They'll send you some Excel sheet and tell you to go delete them manually. This could be fixed with one simple button in the UI but they won't do it. Probably because they're making bank off people like us.

API and SDK is very easy

Pros

Both our developers and the admins handling setup found the API and SDK very easy to work with.

Cons

Ending the free tier made it harder for people who just want to try out the platform before committing.

File conversion quick and good

Pros

Filestack had us converting files almost immediately after we started. Getting hooked into their APIs was shockingly simple and what came out the other end actually looked good.

Cons

You can't see any dashboard for file conversions. So you basically have to take their word for it on how many conversions you've done and which files got processed. We got overcharged more than once for conversions we never made and after going back and forth they admitted the screw-up was on their end.

pulls files from everywhere into one single spot

Pros

The big picture here is that you can pull files from all over the place, including DropBox. If your business has people sharing stuff in a dozen different ways like we do, this brings everything into one single spot. No more hunting around.

Cons

I haven't run into any problems with this software so far.

Sharing and improving files is faster

Pros

Sharing and actually improving files got way faster and actually effective with this. We could chuck huge files around and also grab smaller ones and make them better. Nothing else on the market let us share AND improve files the way Filestack does, and our whole workflow got way better because of it.

Cons

At first I was kind of lost trying to find my way around but once you spend some time with it everything clicks. And the end result is worth pushing through that initial confusion.

customer service is radio silent

Pros

That javascript plugin just drops right in without any drama. Suddenly you've got uploads on your website and you barely did anything. Plus everything lands on Filestack's CDN so you don't have to mess with copying it anywhere else.

Cons

We've had problems come up and their customer service team has been completely radio silent. I don't get the feeling this company gives a damn about its customers and there's no way I could recommend them to anyone with a straight face.

many options available

Pros

I love how many options you get. You can use their storage or your own AWS bucket or some other service entirely. They handle CD and file transformation. The uploader itself is actually fun because you've got so much control and it plays nice with Google, Instagram, Facebook, all the big ones. You can even throw multiple files up at the same time. Dropping this into any app takes five minutes. We run it on mobile and web and customers always say how quick and painless it is.

Cons

If your site gets a lot of traffic, the CDN and Transformation costs can really add up fast. You have to be strategic about how you use them. The reporting works fine for what we need but I could see other companies finding it pretty bare bones.

Rock solid for web and ios

Pros

We dropped Filestack into both our web and iOS apps as the uploader. Does exactly what it says on the tin. Rock solid reliable and our users never struggle with it.

Cons

It feels overpriced for what you actually get but I'll be honest I haven't found anything cheaper that does the same stuff. And when you compare it to building and maintaining all these features ourselves, suddenly it doesn't look quite as bad.
