Easy to use

Pros

What I really like about Akeneo is how easy it is to work with. Managing product info does not feel like a chore anymore as everything is very well organized and simple which saves me a lot of time.

Cons

One thing I find a bit frustrating with it is how tricky it can be to customize the integrations. Though it is not exactly plug and play when it comes to customization.

A powerful e-commerce software

Pros

I have been using this software for a while now and it's really easy to get the hang of. Also it has been a big help in moving my e-commerce projects forward without any hassle.

Cons

Well I have not run into any problems using this tool so far. In fact I think it's a great pick for e-commerce businesses as it really fits their needs well.

Strong product data quality and filtering system

Pros

Platform feels very complete for us and its data quality capabilities make managing quality across each channel really easy. The unique views and filtering options are very user-friendly, so it's simple for us to spot products with data issues and fix them quickly.

Cons

From an enterprise standpoint, the workflow functionality still has room for improvement.

Efficient drag and drop bulk data system

Pros

The drag-and-drop tools, along with how simple it is for us to handle bulk imports and exports for product data, have made a big difference. We came from an old tool where everything had to be entered by hand, so this software has significantly accelerated our internal workflows.

Cons

The integration process didn't go very well on our side and our product families were never configured properly which ended up creating a lot of problems for our website. That said, this was more of an internal issue than a software problem. If you don't have the in-house expertise, make sure you choose the right external agency because we're definitely paying for that mistake now.

Simple ERP integration and workflow control

Pros

Having the ability to connect it with our ERP and other internal systems has been a big advantage for us. It lets us keep product information organized in one place and the data quality scoring gives helpful visibility into what needs attention. The workflow and approval setup based on roles and permissions also works really well for us for managing who can do what.

Cons

Frustrating part is that changing or editing attributes after they've already been created can be a real headache. It would also help a lot if there were a "reference entity like" feature for groups of attributes, since that would make our work much easier.

Easy product data setup and syndication system

Pros

Starting out with this platform was incredibly simple for us. Organizing our data and managing updates has significantly improved the way we handle internal product data. Syndication is just as convenient for us, thanks to customizable export profiles and scheduling options. Uploading data into the system is also very easy.

Cons

Biggest drawback for me was using an implementation partner. After we finished setting up the environment, it felt like we could have managed about 90% of the work on our own which really says a lot about how user-friendly the platform is. Our integration with Aprimo DAM was also difficult, mainly because it was the first time these two systems had been connected.

Scalable solution for complex data models

Pros

From the start, the platform matched what we needed for PIM, commercial and syndication capabilities for us. It also aligned well with our target data model for products and equipment, including tricky edge cases and the current gaps and limitations in our setup. On top of that, it offers a wide range of out-of-the-box features that support a faster time to market, along with great and mature built-in product-focused MDM capabilities. The flexibility and scalability fit our roadmap and long-term vision well. It also demonstrated integrations and interactions very efficiently and the multiple customer references they shared went beyond our expectations, giving us confidence through a proven track record that supports our complex data model and broader business and commerce transformation goals.

Cons

There are no standalone MDM capabilities and the DAM functionality was weak. That said, since we plan to use an integrated DAM solution anyway, this is not really a concern for us.

Strong product enrichment and support system

Pros

Improving the health of our product data became much more achievable for us thanks to the concepts and structure the platform introduced. It also made product enrichment feel far more user-friendly and meaningful which really helped us recognize the value of the people involved in that work. On top of that, the support has been absolutely outstanding, we received the answers we needed during adoption quickly and they were explained in a very clear and thorough way.

Cons

Built-in asset management and translation workflows didn't fully match the full range of needs we currently have, so we decided to connect additional tools to cover those gaps.

convenient API and system integration platform

Pros

Connecting it with other apps, ERP platforms and cloud systems has been convenient for us. The REST API also makes it very simple for us to set up and manage those integrations.

Cons

It would be even better if imports supported more file types, especially PDFs. Also, when downloading a product PDF, it should include the product image and have a cleaner, better-organized layout.

Flexible data import and DAM integration

Pros

One of the biggest advantages for us has been being able to import data from almost any source we already use. It keeps our product information well organized, includes product images and the integration with our DAM has been especially valuable.

Cons

One limitation is that it is not really built to serve images to other applications in an e-commerce setup, especially when that requires handling a constant, heavy load.

Flexible solution for complex product data

Pros

Using this platform has been quite easy for us and the flexibility it offers has been one of the biggest advantages for our business. That was a key requirement for us, especially working in a complex industry like furniture and it has handled that side very well.

Cons

The only area that has been a bit challenging is integration with third-party platforms, such as a custom e-commerce system, though a lot of that comes from how extremely complex our data structure is.

Unified Flexible Product Management System

Pros

Having all product information in one place has made a big difference in how I handle day-to-day management tasks. It is very flexible for me, helps save time and gives us strong tools to manage information much more efficiently. One of the best parts is being able to unify all product data within a single system instead of working across multiple tools. It also lets me customize almost any field to match my specific needs which makes it even more useful.

Cons

Part I liked less was the learning curve, since it took longer to get comfortable with the system than I initially expected. Still, after a couple of weeks of studying and using it regularly, it became much easier to manage well.

Highly Customizable Integration Ready System

Pros

Open customization ended up being one of the biggest reasons we chose it, since we needed a way to continuously import product data from our inventory control system. Its strong network of integration partners, along with the flexibility of the open-source code, gave us a great foundation to build the additional functionality we needed. At the same time, we were still able to take advantage of many of the excellent out-of-the-box features for managing the data after it comes in and pushing it through to our site.

Cons

That same strength in integration and customization also makes the path a bit more complicated when it comes to routine updates and upgrades. It frequently puts out fixes and major feature releases which is definitely a positive but it also means we have to stay on top of those updates regularly. We need to make sure we are on a version we are comfortable with while also keeping our customizations working properly with the latest releases.

Fast Modern Free Community Edition

Pros

Being free is a huge plus for me and the software feels modern, fast and clean right away. You can tell it has been thoughtfully designed and well programmed. It covers personal information management needs without piling on unnecessary extras which I really appreciate. Another big advantage is the free community edition that you can self-host.

Cons

Strong Multilingual Bulk Data Handling

Pros

One of the biggest benefits for us is how well it handles media and product information across multiple channels and languages. Bulk data management is very practical and building several category trees is easy. If your collections change often or you regularly launch new products, this really feels like a lifesaver.

Cons

Downside is that implementation is costly and it needs strong project management to be successful. It's also not a good fit for small stores, since product information at that scale can still be managed in simple spreadsheets.
