Handles all our subscription processes

Pros

It handles all our subscription and membership processes, offers plenty of customization and securely stores all our customer data.

Cons

As an admin I cannot remove a user's address directly from the main interface. I also cannot add a description or title for the newsletters we use in the user's newsletter list.

incredibly supportive and helpful team

Pros

My experience with the Pelcro team has been the best. Their team has been incredibly supportive and helpful with every request.

Cons

Well my journey with it has been outstanding from the very beginning. I have not faced a single issue that needed reporting.

Fast deployment for subscription products

Pros

We can build a subscription product, design a promotion and deploy a paywall remarkably fast.

Cons

The initial setup process could be smoother but they listened to our feedback and provided us with a dedicated Customer Success Manager which made a huge difference.

great automated renewals and multi-currency support

Pros

I value the automated renewals, multi-currency support and their constant work to align with our goals, including the Mailchimp integration. They are also very willing to train our team on using the platforms full potential and improving how we engage with our subscribers.

Cons

Our customers find the gift redemption procedure confusing and difficult. Plus we have suggested enhancements and they are currently being worked on. Also sending renewal reminders 90, 60 and 30 days before a subscription ends is not automated yet but they have plans to develop this feature.

Consistently develops features based on feedback

Pros

Pelcro has consistently developed new features or adjusted existing ones based on our feedback. Our collaborative calls to brainstorm new functions have been very productive too.

Cons

Initially we assumed certain features were included that were not. However when we brought them up, the team went ahead and built them for us.

One of my favorite features are the tools for creating products, setting up discounts and the organized purchase window.

Cons

Complete subscription manager, limited reporting

Pros

Our company, Education Week started working with Pelcro in late 2019. They showed a strong commitment to finishing the work even when timelines stretched or unexpected problems arose. Their platforms main features are also very well documented. Overall it is a complete solution for managing individual subscribers and is the best system for handling simple recurring payments and plans. Plus the ability to use a web-based platform to review both print and digital subscriptions in real-time is a unique advantage. And combined with customer data like payments, invoices, usage stats and a self-service portal, it helps us serve our customers quickly. From a development standpoint, we like being able to suggest new features and collaborate with them on their product roadmap.

Cons

I have three primary concerns with the platform and support. First they have not developed standard reporting tools that are common among other publishing fulfillment services which limits our business insights and complicates audits. Second they would benefit from more frequent check-ins after gathering our requirements to ensure we are aligned on what can be delivered. Finally while it's not part of their main service, our company has had to create workarounds to achieve certain business outcomes.

the top choice for a customized user experience

Pros

Pelcro is easily the top choice for businesses that want to build a fully customized user experience without handling the complex backend work. This software manages the important parts like member management, billing, product/plan setup and login security, which lets us concentrate on creating a unique and smooth experience for our members. I mean no other platform makes it this simple to customize while also providing all the essential infrastructure you need to launch quickly.

Cons

We have had a great experience with it. Every time we have suggested a new feature or idea, the team has been incredibly receptive, quick to respond and fast to put those changes into action.

Very simple and efficient for an expanding company

Pros

It is very simple and efficient. Also it is a perfect solution for an expanding company that needs a highly customizable product without complex technical requirements. Their support team is exceptional too as they are always quick to respond and explains everything clearly. So I would definitely suggest Pelcro to any publisher looking for a polished and advanced paywall system.

Cons

For now it does not have every advanced feature yet but I expect those will come as they expand. The reporting tools could also be more powerful but considering the cost, it is still excellent value.

a clean simple interface with fair pricing

Pros

The interface is clean and simple, the pricing is fair and it feels like a true partnership. They are also very quick to implement custom features and adjustments we request.

Cons

It does not have as many features as some competitors though the price reflects that. And you will likely need to customize the default interface and some functions advertised on their site need fixes to work properly.

the best part is the high customization

Pros

To me the best part of the platform is definitely how much we can customize it to our specific needs.

Cons

My only regret is that we didn not have access to this platform years ago. We would have seen the benefits much sooner.

Great for controlling readers and subscription plans

Pros

I love how this system lets us control our readers and subscription plans. The best part is the metered paywall. As it lets new readers see some of our best articles for free. Once they read a few, we ask them to subscribe. Our old system blocked everything but this one shares our content, helps more people find us and still turns them into paying customers.

Cons

As a newer platform, they are still building out their features so some of the advanced tools you find on older, more established services are not available yet.

our subscription numbers have gone up noticeably

Pros

Since we started using Pelcro, our subscription numbers have gone up noticeably. The system provided us with better tools for customer communication and for analyzing the most effective service and pricing strategies.

Cons

We hit a few expected snags during the technical migration but their team was quick to resolve our issues so our customers were hardly affected. Overall their support team has been helpful, innovative and always on time.

outstanding support and flexible design

Pros

The customer support is outstanding. We also like the fixed-rate pricing that does not increase with our user count and the design is quite flexible.

Cons

To be honest the administrative controls are getting better all the time but they can sometimesssss still feel a bit limited. Also setting up gift subscriptions is a bit clunky as it forces the purchaser to create an account first.

Completely transformed our business

Pros

We are modernizing a famous group of local news and lifestyle publications from Eastern Long Island. Our team, led by a Pulitzer-winning editor decided to introduce a metered paywall for our digital content which has completely transformed our business. The Pelcro team was brilliant and resourceful, helping us merge our long-standing print subscriber list with seamless digital access, all while creating a new and highly profitable digital revenue stream.

Cons

Yes we definitely faced some challenges during the integration, mainly due to our legacy newspaper system's API. However the team was extremely proactive and saw the entire process through to a successful finish.

the right partner for a digital strategy

Pros

When we shifted to a more focused digital strategy, we needed the right partner. Pelcro's software and team allowed us to make that transition successfully. They have consistently rolled out new and improved features since our launch.

Cons

Moving to any new platform comes with its hurdles. But they collaborated with us very closely and the final outcome was a definite success.

Cons

One drawback for us is that it's a cloud-based service so it connects to our other tools instead of being software we can host and manage on our own servers.
