Simple navigation menus

Pros

Getting it downloaded and installed was quick and the navigation menus are simple. It's simple to understand and use and it covers most of the functions I need.

Cons

It still needs to be updated for the Windows 10 operating system since most PCs and POS systems need to run on Windows 10.

Works fine for retail

Pros

Works well for retail because it lets you add a lot of values, customize it the way you need and open as many modules as you want.

Cons

It is not web-based and the setup process is very extensive which can become confusing. Another major challenge is that the number of users is limited.

Broad variety of features

Pros

Cegid especially Y2, comes with a wide range of helpful features for inventory management, purchase orders and promotions that a lot of other systems just do not have. The support team is not always available right away but when they do get back to you, they really take the time to make sure the problem is fully resolved. The front end is also user-friendly which makes it easier for employees to work with.

Cons

Reporting is where it falls short. Even basic reports usually need to be custom built or exported and adjusted quite a bit before you can get them into the format you actually need.

attentive support staff

Pros

Its easy to use and the support team has been dedicated and really knowledgeable whenever I've needed help. The database also offers a lot of potential for future growth and their retail consultant along with the support group have been outstanding.

Cons

That said it still needs more tailoring for the US market. Their Y2 back-end inventory system also needs to include the same features that are available in their WinRetail product.

Awful UI

Pros

It might work for anyone who enjoys wasting time on the phone with other store locations or tech support just to handle the most basic tasks.

Cons

The UI is unbelievably complex. Honestly this should be shown as an example of how not to design retail software. The menu buttons are scattered all over the screen and a lot of them do not even have labels so you are left guessing what they do-and there are way too many of them. The icons feel outdated and are not user-friendly either. Even basic functions are buried inside submenus. Custom reporting for head office was basically unavailable or at least so overly complicated that nobody could figure it out which left me doing a ton of reporting manually. Receiving inventory into the system is also full of opportunities for errors. They took shortcuts in all the wrong places, like allowing me to confirm that everything was received even when nothing might actually be there. The system froze often. Cash counting had several pointless extra steps, like clicking "ok" on an almost blank screen before you could begin or finish. On top of that, when counting cash it was never clear which payment type or denomination screen I was on because there were so many windows and grids, with nothing clearly highlighted. The checkout flow is confusing for new employees and they regularly make tendering mistakes or select the wrong payment type. I genuinely hate this product. Save yourself the headache and go with Square or honestly anything else. Even doing it manually in Excel would probably be a better experience.

Useful reports

Pros

Using it has been simple for both the store team and the office staff. The reports are genuinely useful and being able to customize them is a big advantage.

Cons

There is nothing in particular to complain about. We spent the time we needed comparing different systems before buying and Cegid really turned out to be the right fit for us.

flexible screen layout

Pros

The flexible screen layout and overall usability make this system really pleasant to work with. The touch screen helps move checkout along much faster and being able to place core items directly on the sales screen saves the sales team a lot of time. Price updates happen quickly and having access to real-time sales is a huge plus. Really strong product overall.

Cons

Lack of documentation is a weak point. When new processes come up, we usually have to depend on the CSR team to guide us through them. That said their support staff is very knowledgeable and responds very quickly.

user-friendly platform with helpful support

Pros

Using Cegid POS has been simple from the start. The platform is user-friendly, the features make sense for sales associates and both the training team and customer support have been very helpful.

Cons

One thing to keep in mind is that after a software upgrade some useful features from earlier versions are occasionally harder to find or no longer available in the same way.

Helpful team

Pros

WinRetail was a good partner to work with. My client came from a much larger retail business and was launching a smaller chain of women's stores and WinRetail gave them a strong starting point. I was brought in to build a data warehouse so they could get better analytics but even with that need, their technical team was very cooperative. They gave us detailed access to the product which made it possible to customize the system around my client's specific requirements.

Cons

An area where they struggled was scaling for a larger operation. When my client had to make major inventory updates, the rest of the operation basically had to pause while the database processed everything. That becomes a real issue when several employees need to make changes at the same time, whether for a price reduction or for receiving new merchandise. To their credit though, they were open to reviewing the problems, suggesting process improvements and handling the updates in bulk.

very disappointing support

Pros

Honestly there was nothing positive about my experience. I was really disappointed with Cegid and the London vendor. They told me they could tailor the system to what I needed but that never happened.

Cons

The system is not user-friendly at all. The London vendor was very poor to deal with and the customer service was terrible. The technicians also did not seem to know the system well.

Easy to work with

Pros

Working with it is very simple and uncomplicated.

Cons

I don't like that you can't process a refund or void a transaction unless you have the credit card information.
