“Outstanding team”

Pros

It is a powerful platform but what really sets it apart is the team behind it. From the initial POC all the way through implementation, we've partnered closely with their team and they've stayed responsive, involved and very easy to work with throughout the process.

Cons

In our case, it has mostly been positioned around technical users. I'd really like to explore better ways to keep business stakeholders and other teams more involved too.

“Collaborative platform with standout support”

Pros

Right from the start, the support and enablement team has been outstanding and the platform keeps improving with new features and enhancements. It's a very collaborative, user-friendly solution that helps both technical teams and business users work together effectively.

Cons

A few connectors we need are still unavailable, along with some workflow and policy features that would make governance automation much more effective. Even though the platform's rapid evolution is a benefit, it also means extra time spent evaluating, testing and rolling out new functionality which can sometimes pull attention away from the original goals. On top of that, it still can't automatically identify certain information types such as PII and other data classifications so governance and compliance work requires more manual effort.

“Awesome data catalog feature”

Pros

The lineage tracking and data catalog features have been really solid. Integrations were simple to set up, the pricing feels competitive and the support team has been helpful when needed.

Cons

At times, the platform feels a bit sluggish. The interface also comes across as somewhat plain and the early AI features felt unfinished.

“Fast-paced startup culture”

Pros

It has a strong startup atmosphere with a bold, move-fast mindset. The company stays very agile and adjusts quickly to changing industry trends.

Cons

Things move so quickly that there's barely any time to settle in properly. On top of that, the testing quality is quite weak.

“Metadata and lineage brought together”

Pros

This tool brings together deep metadata, lineage and ownership in a way that finally makes governance feel useful for teams instead of getting in their way.

Cons

A few of the more advanced features take some time to learn but the documentation and support team make that ramp-up manageable.

“Innovative product”

Pros

Working with it has felt like a real partnership especially with their Product and Engineering teams. The UI is user-friendly, their roadmap keeps moving in an innovative direction and the team is very responsive and open to feedback. They're willing to work closely with us to build the capabilities we need and communication with their employees has been regular and simple. Their newer AI features have been especially impressive and they're backed by flexible integrations that extend well across our environment.

Cons

Overall, we're very satisfied but one area for improvement is that the strong push toward innovation can sometimes take attention away from existing features and core needs that would make support and maintenance simpler. There are also a few features in Atlan that seem to receive limited focus and would be better served by having more clearly defined roadmaps.

“Helps build a solid data catalog”

Pros

It makes managing metadata simple, helps build out a solid data catalog and lets us create a semantic layer across the company's data.

Cons

There really aren't any major downsides to it, aside from a few smaller functions and features that would be nice to add.

“Flexible data model”

Pros

It has been especially valuable to our team because of how flexible the data model is. We can tailor asset metadata and extend the model to match the way our organization actually works, then manage those customizations programmatically through the API. That has turned it into a truly useful hub within our data stack rather than just a static data catalog. The interface is also clean and user-friendly so data scientists, analysts and engineers can all get meaningful use out of it without needing much onboarding.

Cons

The available data connectors cover most of our stack but a few of our BI tools still aren't supported. On top of that, the UI doesn't always show back-end changes right away so after certain actions the catalog can feel a bit sluggish until everything finishes syncing and propagating.

“Collaborative data tool”

Pros

Working in it feels much more collaborative and connected than the usual data tools I've used. Having people, data and context brought together in one place makes it easier for teams to actually understand what they're looking at and trust the information they use. It's simple to find what I need, document my work clearly and stay organized without the usual mess or confusion. The platform really feels built around helping people work better with data, instead of making people bend around complicated data systems. Its integrations with modern tools also help everything move faster and overall it makes the data workflow feel more transparent, more human and genuinely enjoyable.

Cons

It can occasionally feel like a lot to take in because of how many features and configuration choices it offers. If you're new to it, there's definitely a learning curve before the full value of the platform becomes obvious. I've also noticed some slowdowns now and then, particularly when working with very large datasets or more complex integrations. On top of that, a bit more flexibility in certain customization areas would make it fit specific team workflows even better. Still, these issues feel fairly minor compared with the overall experience and once you get comfortable with the platform, it turns out to be both powerful and pleasant to use.

“Improved our productivity”

Pros

It has noticeably improved productivity, simplified our workflow and made rolling it out across the business feel almost effortless, honestly, it's been a bit like magic.

Cons

Customer support hasn't been especially outstanding although it's still better than what I've dealt with from other competing tools.

“well-rounded feature set”

Pros

It felt very approachable, even for people who are not especially technical. Getting it up and running was simple and I really appreciated that the feature set was both well-rounded and genuinely useful in day-to-day work. It also connected well with other tools which made the overall experience even more positive.

Cons

The AI functionality is fairly limited and the automation can feel a bit inflexible. It also falls short when it comes to handling task management across multiple teams.

“Powerful search and tagging”

Pros

Being able to add definitions and tags to just about any data asset is really helpful especially since you can also link existing documentation as a resource. The search works very well and the option to propagate tags downstream from objects is a big plus.

Cons

Navigation in the UI can be confusing at times and a few screens would honestly work better in a table format. There's also a fairly steep learning curve when moving beyond basic read-only use or managing a single asset into larger mass-tagging and documentation projects.

“Approachable for everyone”

Pros

It feels approachable for people across the company, even if they are not especially technical and that has helped drive broader engagement. The data lineage view gives us a clear visual map of our data stack which has been especially valuable when bringing in new hires because they can quickly understand how our data architecture is set up. The glossary has also become an essential feature for creating a shared understanding of terms and metrics across the business and the ability to assign ownership to those definitions adds useful accountability. Being able to connect glossary terms to related assets strengthens that alignment even more and helps keep everyone on the same page.

Cons

One area that could use improvement is the Teams integration. It would be much more effective if approval requests could be routed directly to the correct data owner or specific person instead of only going to an administrator.

“Data made accessible”

Pros

I appreciate how well it served both business users on the front end and our data engineering teams. Having a shared data glossary directly linked to the underlying data assets made information much more accessible and easier to discover across all teams that rely on data. On top of that, the ability to display data quality metrics right next to each important dataset gave our teams a much stronger level of trust that the data they were using was accurate, complete, reliable, relevant and up to date.

Cons

Connecting it to our data platform was very simple and getting all of our data sources and reporting tools linked together was quick and efficient. Whenever anything came up, the customer success team handled it fast and the regular check-ins have been really valuable for keeping us informed about upcoming features on the product roadmap.

“Easy to implement”

Pros

Getting it up and running with our existing systems was pretty simple. It pulls in data schemas from different sources and the interface is clean when it comes to adding metadata like tags. It also helps data and compliance teams quickly figure out ownership and identify sensitive or private data assets.

Cons

An issue was with the Atlan-provided tool for ingesting schemas from PostgreSQL databases. At the time we used it, several of its dependencies had known vulnerabilities so better dependency management would help. It was also only distributed through a requested download link instead of being offered as a container image which made automated updates harder to support.
