It's so easy for me to use. There were a few times when things were slightly off but for the most part, the benchmarks were correct.

For me, not everything seems fully vetted and sometimes false information slips through.

There are very few jobs I can't find data on. This tool offers a huge selection of jobs and job levels for me to analyze. Data is really helpful for me in benchmarking and compensation processes. I love how I can adjust the job based on specific skills, certifications, or criteria like years of experience and education.

For me, managers handled their compensation tasks without struggle. Whenever I ran into an issue, I got fast service and the fix was done quickly. I saw how knowledgeable the programmers were and getting the program up and running didn't take long at all.

The system looks so similar to Excel that I expected it to function the same way.

The part I enjoyed was making the system flexible enough to cover what I needed. I built the reports the way I wanted which made approvals quicker and my rep always gave timely answers.

For me, the slow page refreshes were frustrating, sometimes taking 10 seconds or more.

Admin side feels a little tricky at times but I like that HCR keeps improving those features and actually listens to feedback for upgrades.

There's honestly nothing I dislike about the software. Maybe it's just me but as the admin I sometimes find certain things less clear when I need to make bigger changes across the system.

Since I use Excel a lot, this software fits perfectly with the way I already work. I can manage my compensation data in a familiar setup but in a far more organized and effective way.

This tool gives me all the functions I need. I find the layout clean, I locate things fast and every time I contacted support, the experience was pleasant.

The PDF version doesn't look as neat as the web view when I have multiple scopes or a hybrid role with market data.

As both a manager and an admin, I find it easy to use. The report options help me a lot, the data dump gives me clarity on increases and I also print PDF statements whenever I need.

I can't put managers in the approval chain more than once. Every raise has to go through direct managers and then be approved by Research Unit Leaders. Since those leaders report to VPs and VPs also have direct reports, the straight line approval path in CompXL doesn't really fit my circular approval setup.

I'd really like to skip the whole export and import step and just let managers enter everything straight into the system.

“Sped up our year end process

Pros

This is my second year using CompXL for compensation and after the first year, it really helped speed up my year end process. Before, I'd be working late every night for weeks, trying to find errors and missed updates. The hardest part was sending Excel files to each department leader and trying to keep track of all the small changes and tweaks they made. The software is fully customized to fit my company's complicated compensation structure which I couldn't find anywhere else with such detail. My main issue in the first year was the lack of reporting and filtering options but after this year's updates, the new reporting features are a game changer. It might take a while for someone not tech savvy to figure it out but for me, the new features give me full control to create as many reports as I need. Since my CEO needs over 30 reports a year, automating some of this has been a huge help. It's made my job much easier and now, the biggest problem is that I'm less focused on tiny details because I trust the software so much.

Cons

Most annoying part for me is uploading employee data. I often need to make lots of small changes and instead of adjusting them right in the system, I have to import them. The interface also looks too much like Excel. It doesn't feel modern like ADP or SuccessFactors but honestly, it makes up for that by being super flexible. You can do way more here than in those other systems, basically only limited by what Excel itself can handle.
