Quick to pick up

Pros

Although Cosmolex is the practice management platform I normally use, whenever I need to work in Clio across different practices, the transition feels natural and the learning curve is easy to adapt to.

Cons

There is not much I specifically dislike about Clio but it is not the platform I usually turn to because it does not offer the accounting integration I need.

solid functionality

Pros

It was simple and it made attaching mail really convenient.

Cons

Even though we valued the many things Clio could do, we ultimately decided to take our needs in a different direction.

Billing done in minutes

Pros

It lets me run pretty much every part of my law practice in one place, from tracking time to handling billing and managing documents. The billing tools are especially useful because they help me finish my monthly invoices in just a few minutes.

Cons

One small thing I'd change is the document storage feature since it could be a little more simple to navigate. It's only a minor issue though because the overall layout still feels familiar and user-friendly, even if there's probably a better way to organize that section.

lets us operate a fully virtual law firm

Pros

Clio's integrations have been the biggest advantage for us because they let us operate a fully virtual law firm, keep the business lean, deliver high-quality service and maintain the flexibility and freedom we want as both lawyers and business owners.

Cons

One thing that would make it even better is the ability to attach files to tasks within a matter. I'd also love more direct access to the development team, along with a more automated way to submit requests and suggestions.

Clean case organization

Pros

The interface is clean and it keeps complex cases well organized especially when I need multiple subfolders stored within the main client case folder.

Cons

Managing my cases can still feel awkward at times because of how the dashboard is laid out. I really wish I had more options to customize it based on the way I work.

Modern browser-based flexibility

Pros

Everything runs right in the web browser so there's no desktop software to install and nothing complicated to maintain locally. As long as your internet connection is fast, the practice management system runs quickly too. The interface looks modern, feels polished and is very user-friendly. Another big plus is how customizable it is and it integrates really well with other platforms through strong partnerships with tools like LawPay, QuickBooks and Zipwhip, just to name a few.

Cons

At this point, there really isn't anything we dislike about Clio.

Time-saving tools for busy practice

Pros

Our team mostly relies on the calendar, billing and file storage features and each one is simple to use and saves us a lot of time. The mobile app is also an excellent addition especially for anyone who spends a lot of time in court.

Cons

Handling split billing, where two people need to be billed on the same case, is difficult.

entire caseload on my phone

Pros

Having a cloud-based case management system like this has been a huge plus. I can keep my entire caseload with me right on my phone which makes it really convenient to stay on top of things. The features are also very useful especially tasks, Client Connect and the integrations with other programs.

Cons

The email integration could be better especially if there were fewer steps involved in downloading emails. Even with that, I still find the email feature useful.

Powerful workflows and smooth integrations

Pros

The workflow and connected apps made a big difference for us. The integrations feel almost completely smooth and the platform has far more capability than it seems to at first glance. Even after two years of using it, we're still getting more out of it with conditional logic templates, task lists and metrics in ways we hadn't originally imagined.

Cons

I'd still like an SRFax integration, even though that matters less now as fax continues to be replaced by email. I'd also really want to see email integration with the Mail app on my Mac.

Not a single complaint

Pros

After 26 years at large firms doing little more than time entry, I went solo seven years ago and needed something that could handle my own tracking and billing. This software made that transition really manageable. It was quick to pick up, the billing and bookkeeping were accurate and the whole system felt very user-friendly even though I had never been responsible for my own accounting before. Anytime I had a question, customer support was readily available and helpful. There are still plenty of features I haven't explored but based on how well the billing and accounting tools have worked for me, I'd expect the rest to be just as useful.

Cons

I honestly never had any complaints about this program.

Works perfectly with other tools

Pros

it works well with other software which has been a real plus for us.

Cons

Clio still feels like a product that's evolving and a lot of our customer service calls end up being treated as feature requests because some of the features we were told it had during the purchase process actually aren't available.

Clio helped my firm thrive

Pros

Going solo in 2013 could have been a major setback but Clio ended up saving my practice. I had thought about retiring yet I still genuinely loved the work. Right before my partner decided to stop practicing, we had already put Clio in place. After the switch from having a partner to running the practice on my own, my net income increased by 50%. The impact of losing him was barely noticeable. Later, when I brought on a new partner in 2019, Clio was a big reason he felt confident about joining us.

Cons

The tiered pricing is my biggest complaint. There are additional features I'd be interested in using but the cost of moving up to the next tier just doesn't feel justified.

Billing dashboard is amazing

Pros

It has genuinely transformed the way I run my practice. It puts key information right on the dashboard, including billing goals for the day, month and year, A/R, actual versus target billing, clients, matters and pretty much everything an attorney needs close at hand to handle billing quickly and efficiently.

Cons

Every now and then though not often, I run into situations where certain information or a function I need just is not available which feels unnecessary. Creating bills also takes more effort than it really should.

Fast workflow and impressive tools

Pros

Using Clio has been quick and efficient for our team. Uploading documents is simple and a lot of the features have been genuinely useful.

Cons

The document storage setup still needs improvement. It can be difficult to keep files organized and to find documents when needed.
