“Powerful tools for searching patents

Pros

The thing I value most is Derwent Innovation's powerful tools for searching and analyzing patents. It lets me find the right patents fast, spot technology trends through visuals and get crucial insights into the innovation field. This approach saves me a huge amount of time I'd otherwise spend on manual research.

Cons

New users might find it a bit overwhelming at first and it does take some time to learn all its capabilities. Also the interface could be more user-friendly but once we get past that initial hurdle, the powerful insights we gain make the effort worthwhile.

My main use for Derwent Innovation is hunting down patent records for different needs, like checking patentability or freedom to operate. Overall its smart search is the standout feature as it automatically pulls up the most relevant patents just from the keywords I type in.

Cons

The database itself is excellent but the interface for analyzing patents is not ideal. As we cannot highlight specific text we want and you have to open each patent individually to see all the diagrams since they are not fully visible in the list view.

I've been using this for patent searches across different types like patentability and FTO work. The smart search feature really stands out, it automatically pulls up relevant patents just based on the terms you enter which saves tons of time.

The database itself is excellent but the interface for analyzing patents leaves much to be desired. You can't highlight specific words you're looking for and the full figures aren't visible right away, you have to open each patent individually to see all the diagrams and images.

This is a really solid platform, it is a comprehensive database that lets us find patent information by running specific search strings or using its direct smart search. You can even track down all the citations for a specific patent.

Cons

One thing I noticed is that the search strings can get complicated because of all the operators and if a query is too complex, it might not return any results. So my advice is to always start with a simpler search.

Search strings can get pretty tricky when you use complex operators and if you make them too complicated, you might end up with zero results. I've learned to keep my queries simple to avoid this issue.

Derwent Innovation is pretty easy to use and contains a massive collection of intellectual property from the US, Europe and Asia.
