“The best tool for legal budgets
Pros
I consider this one of the best in-house legal budget management tools available for businesses today. It does so much more than just help with budgeting.... I can also seamlessly track expenses, manage vendors and monitor all related financial items in one centralized place. It gives me the control and visibility I need to keep our legal spending efficient, accountable and fully aligned with our business goals.
Cons
In the beginning my experience with the onboarding and integration felt somewhat lengthy and complicated.

“Awesome customer support team
Pros
The customer support is truly second to none, always quick to respond, friendly, patient and clearly knowledgeable. I taught myself the application (both how it was configured for our organization and how to administer it) after stepping into a role during a pretty chaotic stretch. Throughout that period their team was right there offering helpful insights about the setup and making sure I felt confident handling invoice processing. They actually sat down with me and helped overhaul the configuration so it would run more efficiently. I am interested in learning more about matter management and I'm sure my "friends" at SimpleLegal will be around to guide me when I dive into that next.
Cons
I can't really say I have any real cons. I recognize the app is capable of a lot more, it's just on me to figure out how to take full advantage of its features and use it to its fullest potential.

“Simple & smart to use
Pros
Beyond being simple to use, the software is SIMPLE to operate and they run open user groups where we can learn from one another. Their support is quick and efficient in response.
Cons
I'd really like the ability to log in as a ghost user for any of my vendors so I can see exactly what they encounter. It's not primarily about troubleshooting or stepping in to help but more about gaining a clearer, personal understanding. To me that's the one feature that's missing. Please add a 'view as user' button on each vendor's page so I can quickly switch perspectives and learn what they see.

“smooth to set up
Pros
it's genuinely easy to use and getting everything set up and running didn't take much effort at all. on top of that I've consistently found customer support to be responsive and helpful whenever I've reached out which makes the whole process feel supported and simple from start to finish.
Cons
actually I did notice a handful of tasks in the system are tricky for example figuring out how to create or configure rules isn't simple.

From my experience it logs a ton of specifics about items and transactions and I find that really useful.
Cons
I wish there were an easier way for me to create a rule that automatically sends invoices containing certain keywords to designated people for approval.

“best tool with great support
Pros
Once I was trained I find it simple to use and the invoice landing page is really helpful because it shows everything I need to review an invoice or leave comments. I also like being able to duplicate an existing matter to cut down on the work of setting up a new one, switching between vendors and invoices is simple. The customer support team is excellent and they respond quickly and offer practical fixes.
Cons
When it came to reporting I found the tools pretty confusing and not very interactive for building ad hoc reports. That said SimpleLegal did step in to help us produce a custom legal report that delivered our raw data but we still had to go through and clean the output manually afterward.

Pros
I like that I can tailor the data fields while the interface stays simple. I've also relied on the e-billing feature which does a great job and cuts down the time I spend reviewing and approving invoices.
Cons
For me the trade-off is that because it's designed to be simple and minimal, you won't find every customization option or every bell-and-whistle feature, however I appreciate that the system prevents you from overcomplicating things.

Pros
As an administrator I find it really easy to use and use for both admins and invoice approvers and I'm seeing ongoing enhancements.
Cons
There are limitations with the invoice testing rules and administrators lack forward-facing visibility but I can see that these areas are steadily progressing.

Cons
Can't run historical data for more than a year which is really annoying. I'm constantly generating lots of reports and it's maddening that I can't produce a single comprehensive one.

“No real help from customer care
Pros
I really like being able to view every invoice in one centralized spot. From there I can set budgets that apply to every vendor or limit them to specific vendors only. It's also simple for vendors to submit and upload their invoices.
Cons
It bothers me that there's no way to talk to a real person when I run into problems.

It is very interactive and truly customer-focused. Its UI and UX rank among the best I've used and it lets me make simple configurations and customizations without sacrificing that clean simple feel.
Cons
there are a few limitations that matter a lot. I can't reassign or delegate Timekeeper rate approval requests which creates friction in our approval workflows.

Honestly I am impressed by how simple the platform is while still covering all of our matter and spend management needs. The interface is clean and interactive enough that any member of our legal team picked it up quickly and it gives our legal operations staff practically everything required to report on, track and pinpoint whatever data points we need. I also appreciate that this tool actively seeks customer feedback about improvements and keeps rolling out new features throughout the year. They genuinely pay attention to what customers ask for and often introduce capabilities we hadn't realized we wanted until they launched them.
Cons
I do see some drawbacks like with any platform. While the reporting tools have come a long way since last year I still find it harder than it should be to manipulate data in custom reports compared with some other solutions. Another minor frustration for me is the workflow around submitting timekeeper rates especially when switching from standard to discounted rates.

I find the interface really interactive and easy to use and getting things up and running felt simple. The reporting features are solid and reliable which has made our analysis much more efficient. Plus my Customer Success Manager, Grace Padgett is consistently proactive and regularly goes the extra mile to help the AES team meet goals and address any issues.

Our department has been able to tailor the system to our specific needs. Now my team can clearly see the outside matters they're handling with external vendors. We're able to apply billing rules consistently, monitor expenditures and produce accurate, real-time reports on the data without issue.

One thing I really appreciate about it is its interactive interface and how smoothly I can move around the entire database.
Cons
I found getting SimpleLegal set up and uploading our data into the database somewhat challenging making sure the right records were required, mapped and finally uploaded took a fair bit of time to get everything organized.
