“Easy to find what you're looking for
Pros
What I appreciate is how simple it makes narrowing my legal research so I can quickly locate precisely the documents or cases I'm searching for.
Cons
At times I find the array of features overwhelming which makes it hard for me to zero in on exactly what I'm trying to locate.

“Tons of resources available
Pros
I've found it to be very easy to use and it offers a huge range of materials beyond just case law.
Cons
A problem I ran into is that when I try the term-search inside cases after doing a keyword search, it seems to have no effect on the results.

“a game-changing legal 'google' i can't do without
Pros
Having access to it has been a gamechanger and it genuinely feels like a specialized 'Google' customized for lawyers. It is simple yet powerful and gives me quick access to all the resources. Way better than Lexis Nexis! At this point I can't do without it.
Cons
I think the search parameters are a bit excessive. With such a flood of results it's often difficult to focus on exactly what I'm trying to find.

“Offers a great range of filters
Pros
It has a solid set of filters for searching and doing legal research, plus a folder system that really helps when I'm handling large projects. I find it simple to keep my work organized and the history tracking makes it simple for me to return to earlier tabs and items I viewed.
Cons
I had a tough time learning this platform and it can be overwhelmingly confusing if you're used to Lexis or MyCase. I constantly need different search phrasing, the arrangement of collections and journals is unlike other services and there's no kind of gamified reward for using it which I find disappointing.

“Makes it easy to conduct research
Pros
Its the same tool I was trained on in paralegal school and since it hasn't changed much over time, I find it simple to follow along and conduct my research.
Cons
I sometimes have trouble finding someone with the people search, even when I'm certain their name, address and date of birth are entered correctly.

“Convenient for legal research
Pros
I find this software extremely convenient and it makes researching legal issues for my work much simpler. It feels far more user-friendly and easier to use compared with the old Westlaw site and even beats what used to be called 'Westlaw Next'. For every case there is a clear notification flag indicating whether negative treatment exists. Tapping that flag takes me to all the opinions that mention the case and includes a breakdown of how thoroughly the case was discussed.
Cons
There are so many tools and options packed into the platform that I'm certain I haven't unlocked its full capabilities yet. I could definitely benefit from formal training so I can learn how to use everything and take full advantage of this software.

“Top legal research platform
Pros
This is by far the best legal research platform available. It provides solid search and organizational tools for those who need them yet it doesn't weigh the interface down with pointless extras. The content stays front and center at all times.
Cons
I've noticed that at times, the software has difficulty keeping multiple tabs stable or managing them properly.

“Innovative company
Pros
I've noticed they keep innovating to make research easier and more effective. That matters for those of us who could use free alternatives like Google Scholar. Even so, having entry to subscription-gated materials, depending on the plan, continues to be a persuasive reason for me to keep using a traditional legal research platform like Westlaw.
Cons
It still feels like the best legal research platform out there but I find other services somewhat stronger when it comes to determining whether a precedent has been overturned. Also the costs can add up.

“Helpful expert database
Pros
We find jury verdict reports, case-valuation tools and the expert database genuinely useful.
Cons
Having used it on and off for about ten years, I'm still not comfortable with how to move between the different sources because it doesn't feel user-friendly. I also find the headnotes aren't consistently that helpful.

“Too costly
Pros
It's interface is clean and well organized. The search tools consistently effective.
Cons
To be honest, the price felt excessive for my needs. As someone at a small firm, I didn't find it to be a worthwhile value when compared to newer products of similar quality that are available now. I was particularly put off by the automatic price hikes that outpaced inflation, that kind of steady increase was something I couldn't accept. The account managers kept rotating and often came across with a 'my way or the highway' stance. I decided to take the highway and I'm genuinely glad I canceled. I was fed up with West's persistent sales and marketing approach.

“Simple but expensive
Pros
Using it has been simple and since I'm already familiar with other legal research tools, I found it pretty easy to understand.
Cons
The price is too high. Its costly, particularly when you need features beyond your subscription and as far as I know, every plan comes with at least a one-year contract. There are many cost-effective alternatives present in the market.

“Ensures I've carried out comprehensive research
Pros
It is an excellent program because it makes it simple for me to confirm that I've carried out thorough and exhaustive legal research on any particular issue.
Cons
The biggest drawback has been how prohibitively expensive it is for anyone other than big corporate law firms that can routinely pass substantial costs through to their clients. As someone who mainly represents individual clients instead of corporations, I've found there are numerous alternative services that deliver equal or even superior functionality at a fraction of the price.

“Huge resource library, high subscription costs
Pros
I've always seen it as a frontrunner in legal research and like other platforms it's moving into artificial intelligence with predictive-style searching that helps surface the relevant issues. It can flag the key points but in practice it mostly gathers materials that experienced lawyers have already identified. At times the volume and breadth of results can be so large that it feels overwhelming and you end up spending a lot of time trimming everything down to what actually matters. I'm generalizing a bit because it's not radically different from Lexis, both companies keep enhancing their tools and both offer a standard browser-style search experience. What really sets this apart for me is the enormous library of resources it can pull from which is a real asset for larger firms handling many different types of cases. For a blue-collar attorney working in a narrow niche, though, the platform often feels like overkill. I do love it but sometimes all the bells and whistles just create too much noise.
Cons
My biggest gripe is the price. Subscribing costs too much and those add-on resources can lead to unwelcome surprises when the bill arrives at the end of the month. It often feels like I'm paying for a tool that primarily directs me toward other paid products so you can end up paying for access to content you might not actually use. For smaller firms where overhead matters, that pricing structure puts the program out of reach. To be fair, it's a superior product, easy to use, informative and it opens up a deep well of additional resources. Still, the cost is prohibitive for a firm with five or fewer attorneys and makes it hard to justify the investment.

“Complex interface with a wide variety of features
Pros
It has been a staple in the legal field, offering a wide array of features that proved really useful when I used them. For the most part, though, I mainly relied on the case law section of our subscription and rarely needed the additional tools.
Cons
Unfortunately, the interface felt complex and confusing. I was often informed that even the basic research I wanted to do required buying extra subscriptions.

“Timesaving software, overpriced for solo practitioners
Pros
Its search engine outperforms others in legal research. I'm also trained to use KeyCite to track down every case relevant to an issue. All told, it cuts down on research time and gives me peace of mind that I've covered all my bases.
Cons
For my solo practice, I find the cost very high.

“Simple to pull up materials
Pros
I really like using it since I can just type whole sentences and it consistently pulls up the materials I need.
Cons
It's fairly pricey and I find that it returns a lot more cases than I usually consider necessary which can be overwhelming.
