Versatile MES with impressive 3D CAD

Pros

Working with advanced strategic, operational and tactical communication products means we need a system that can handle complex manufacturing requirements and FactoryLogix has been a very strong fit for that. We use it to build out our production processes and we're now extending it to track our full circuit board manufacturing flow. It's highly flexible when it comes to CAD data sources and the import process is very simple. The system can identify matching packages and use X/Y placement files to map references to the correct packages. We also bring in BOMs directly from their native Excel format which saves time. On top of that, 3D CAD files for mechanical assemblies can be imported as well and the latest release has really taken the 3D CAD functionality to another level visually. Once the process is configured and the detail page templates are in place, importing new assembly files and generating process details becomes very efficient. Operators can review everything digitally as they scan boards through each step, follow guided instructions when required and capture assembly data like measurements or defect information along the way. They're also able to send feedback directly to manufacturing engineering. FactoryLogix helps enforce process control too, preventing an assembly from starting if there are open defects, if the prior step hasn't been completed successfully or even if the required time gap since the previous step hasn't passed yet. It also runs multiple validation checks when a unit is moved through a process. On top of all that, FactoryLogix includes sample inspection methods.

Cons

Really I don't have any drawbacks to mention about the software. We've been very satisfied with what it can do and we're looking forward to expanding how we use the system going forward.

factory-wide visibility and control

Pros

One of the biggest benefits we've seen with Aegis FactoryLogix is the level of visibility it gives us across the operation. As an engineering manager, having immediate access to performance information has been extremely valuable and the insight helps us drive improvements from both a quantitative and qualitative standpoint. Another area where the system plays a critical role is compliance especially in our finished goods packing area. The built-in validations are extensive and give us confidence that we are shipping accurate, high-quality products to customers. Support has also been excellent. Whenever we need help, we can reach their team directly without dealing with automated phone menus or long hold times. They respond with urgency, pay attention to what we need and provide solutions quickly. On top of that, FactoryLogix covers our entire factory very well, from automated electronics assembly to manual system builds. The MES interface works for assemblers, inspectors and technicians and it also connects with our assembly, inspection and test equipment. Most of this has been handled through standard functionality with very little customization needed. After more than eight years of using Aegis software, its configurability has continued to let us adjust processes, rules and system behavior as our manufacturing environment and customer expectations evolve.

Cons

we do not have any negative feedback to report about the software.

powerful quality control insights

Pros

Across the entire manufacturing flow, FactoryLogix gives us very strong quality management capabilities. As an OEM handling large work order volumes, the in-line first article function helps us catch and stop incorrect builds before they continue which has saved us a significant amount in avoidable costs. On the data collection side, before we implemented FactoryLogix, defects were usually logged only at the component level so pulling meaningful information for root cause investigations was difficult. With FactoryLogix, we can require defects to be assigned at the right level, whether that is assembly, component or even down to a specific pin on a circuit board. That kind of detail gives us the rich data we need to perform root cause analysis much more accurately and efficiently. The system also automatically prompts operators to complete quality checks at scheduled points during production, helping ensure critical quality requirements are being met the whole way through. Being able to identify non-conformances while the product is still in process has dramatically lowered our rework and the costs that come with it. On top of that, we now have instant visibility into all quality data collected throughout the process which we simply did not have before. Having that real-time information available means we can immediately trigger alarms when something is not performing the way it should.

Cons

One downside is that the software's response time can occasionally be frustratingly slow.

Handy manufacturing boost

Pros

Across our manufacturing operation, Aegis has made a real impact. Our customers expect perfection and to support that, we needed to digitize several critical areas. It was important for us to have those capabilities inside one true IIoT, data-driven platform that would protect our long-term investment and still deliver ROI. The paperless work instructions have helped us speed up documentation creation, handle rapid changes without difficulty and stay much more responsive to customer demands. On the production side, Aegis works exceptionally well with our Europlacer machines, giving us strong digital integration across the entire line, active quality management through connected and interlocked processes and complete traceability. Both our team and our customers have gained tremendous value from the software.

Cons

No real issues to mention. The preparation we did together with the Aegis engineers meant deployment went through without any particular problems.

excellent traceability and reporting

Pros

Working in a highly regulated manufacturing environment, traceability is absolutely essential and FactoryLogix has done a very strong job meeting those product realization requirements. Spartronics uses it for both product- and component-level traceability, along with controls for measurement tracking and verification that every manufacturing step has been completed successfully. Real-time WIP tracking is another major benefit especially with such a high product mix. Having immediate visibility into product status and location is critical for daily production planning and the automated daily floor status reports add even more value. The quality reporting tools have also been extremely useful for monitoring process performance and supporting continuous improvement. Reports can be run on demand, scheduled in advance or configured as alarms to alert Engineering when preset limits begin to drift. Document control has also been a big advantage because it supports a paperless manufacturing process and ensures operators always receive the correct build instructions tied to the right assembly or process revision. On top of that, FactoryLogix integrates well with a wide variety of automated assembly and test equipment, allowing pass/fail data and defect information to be captured automatically.

Cons

there really are no issues to report. The overall experience across the organization has been very positive.

No paper production wins

Pros

Paperwork used to be one of the biggest headaches on our production floor. Creating, handing out and updating paper documents took a huge amount of staff time. Since moving to FactoryLogix, we've eliminated that paper trail entirely. We went from rows of cabinets packed with documentation to having everything stored electronically. There are no longer stacks of pages tied to every work order. If something needs to be updated, we make the change in the system and the production floor sees it right away. The whole documentation process is now real-time and far more manageable. We're also able to track each product from start to finish. On top of that, the Sub-Assembly collection features let us tell customers when components inside a unit have been replaced. FactoryLogix has saved us a lot of time and money in creating production orders. Reporting is not an area we use heavily but whenever we need it, we can rely on an existing report or build a new one. The amount of information captured in the system gives us a very strong data repository for whatever level of reporting or analysis we need.

Cons

We really don't have any negatives to mention about FactoryLogix. Any time we weren't completely sure how to use the system for a specific need, the Aegis team was there to support us and help us work through the challenge.

Full traceability

Pros

Before we brought in FactoryLogix, one of the biggest problems on our shop floor was managing paper documentation and making sure the right revisions were actually being used. Documents would go missing and sometimes the wrong version ended up in production which led to quality problems and disrupted our schedules. That issue has essentially disappeared. WIP tracking has also changed completely. In the past, if someone wanted an update on where a product was in process, account managers had to physically walk the floor to track it down. With the WIP tables and dashboards in FactoryLogix, that visibility is available right away. Traceability is another area where the system has been extremely valuable. In our environment, we need detailed and accurate traceability and FactoryLogix builds that directly into the platform. We can immediately see who performed rework, when it happened, why it happened and review the full assembly history whenever needed. The quality data collection and reporting tools have also saved a lot of time. Without them, our team would still be manually typing quality data into spreadsheets just to monitor and report on metrics. On top of the functionality, usability mattered a lot during our selection process. We needed something powerful and flexible without being difficult to learn or use because otherwise adoption would have suffered and we would not have seen the return we were looking for.

Cons

nothing negative to report about this software.

flexible expansion and fast rollout

Pros

As we expanded into new factory locations, getting a new site in Mexico up and running quickly became a priority. A big part of that timeline depended on choosing and implementing the right MES solution. During our evaluation, we were focused on finding something cost-effective that could be deployed fast, while still supporting both our immediate goals and longer-term plans. We needed a platform that let us begin with a smaller set of capabilities but was complete enough to grow with us over time. Just as important, we wanted that future expansion without heavy customization, extra time or added cost. FactoryLogix gave us that flexibility, allowing us to launch with a limited feature set and add more functionality when the time was right. Another key requirement was Spanish-speaking support. Because this system plays such an important role in our manufacturing operations, having access to the right help at the right time was essential for success. We chose Aegis Software and the FactoryLogix MES platform because they checked those boxes at a reasonable price and we've been happy with that decision ever since.

Cons

The learning curve was a bit slow at first but once the manufacturing engineering team became more proficient, things started running much more smoothly.

global program generation powerhouse

Pros

Running factories around the world meant we needed one digital platform that could take customer CAD files and bill of materials data and convert them into all the different machine program formats required across our sites. Fast, accurate program generation at an enterprise scale is essential when you're serving thousands of customers and supporting a broad mix of production equipment. Aegis Software's FactoryLogix has delivered on that need and then some. It turns all kinds of incoming customer data into production-ready machine programs which helps us get to launch much faster.
