Powerful

Pros

The product is user-friendly and has a crisp UI. The out of the box software covers all major commodity manufacturing processes. The aPriori team consistently enhances its abilities through version upgrades. The database is quite useful, encompassing over 75 regional libraries for labor, material and machine data. The best part is the ability to customize process logic and data. With aPriori's scripting language, even those without programming backgrounds can modify or add logic/rules in the backend to replicate specific manufacturing methodologies. It's also possible to add labor, machine, and material data. Other features like Design to Cost (DtC) for optimized design, Cost Insight Reports for analytical cost reports, and CAD plugins for seamless integration with CAD tools make this tool the right choice for OEMs aiming to effectively reduce product costs.

Cons

The tool sometimes takes longer to cost a component and experiences lags while connecting to the server. This issue worsens as the complexity increases. However, this can be resolved by transitioning to the Cloud. Additionally, some of the logic and data are generic, so customization may be required based on the specific industry.

aPriori User feedback

Pros

The DTC Feedback feature for polymerics and HPDC module is very useful. It is very user-friendly for designers and serves as the best tool for driving cost transparency with suppliers. However, the integration of aPriori into our existing business is still a work in progress.

Cons

Addressing the DTC feedback for the investment casting process is necessary. The integration of aPriori into our existing business is still a work in progress.

Textron Systems

Pros

It's remarkable how only a few select inputs are needed to produce an initial evaluation/simulation of a model.

Cons

Costing complex components often requires manipulating the simulation to achieve accurate results.

A good software with potential but if their focus are the designers they must improve.

Pros

In general, it offers the possibility to work with a wide variety of different manufacturing processes for sheet metal (although, to be honest, there are a few missing).

Cons

As an advanced user of aPriori Professional in my organization, I must admit that many features are not very clear.

aPriori an Engineers Best Friend!

Pros

One thing I love is the instant feedback I receive from my design work. It allows me to make small design changes and understand the impact on cost.

Cons

Other software options provide more detailed coverage of every production type. It would be helpful to have a heatmap showing the cost to manufacture for injection molding.

aPriori Software Review

Pros

In my department, we have been using aPriori for over 3 years to assist the supply chain in cost reduction projects. It has proven to be a reliable and accurate tool across various process groups such as stock machining, sheet metal, and 2-Model Machining. We have achieved successful cost reduction negotiations through collaborative efforts. Working together is crucial to achieving beneficial results.

Cons

In the beginning, you may have to spend time on learning, but as you become familiar with the modules and navigation, you'll improve and receive optimal input from the software. The welding tool selection, measurement tool and availability of secondary processes are the least favorable aspects for me.
