“Works with Xero”

Pros

Right away, it worked nicely with Xero which is the accounting system we already use. It lets you build budgets and run different scenarios across accounts pulled from the GL and that has been genuinely useful for our planning. Outside of that, the platform is fairly limited but for its core purpose it does the job well. Getting around the tool is also reasonably easy.

Cons

A limitation is that the historical graphs display actuals but they do not offer a very good way to view variance. Forecast planning is also based mainly on numbers, rather than headcount or other more advanced planning methods and features. Still at this price point, it remains a easy and worthwhile tool.

“helpful cashflow planning tools”

Pros

Keeping track of cash flow is easy because the platform is simple to understand and not overly complicated which makes planning much easier. On top of that, the customer service team is very responsive whenever support is needed.

Cons

Aside from being a bit expensive, it still ends up being more cost effective than doing the calculations manually when you consider the time saved and the improved accuracy.

“smooth Xero integration”

Pros

One of the best parts is how well it works with Xero: updates show up right away which makes everything feel connected and reliable. It's also very easy to use and doesn't take much effort to understand.

Cons

Although the scenario feature is useful, the comparison options are still a bit limited since you can only compare with the last month, last 3 months or last 6 months. It would be much better to have the option to choose a custom comparison view.

“fantastic scenario planning”

Pros

What really stands out is how effortlessly it connects with the other software I already use and it also makes it very simple to compare different scenarios side by side!

Cons

There are still some more in depth features I'd like to see added that would give users better control over how the information is presented. For example, it would be useful to view purchase orders and to be able to sort the "Daily Breakdown" by category. It would also help a lot to have a function that shows the current balance minus bills that are due since the current view shows the balance at the start of the day while bills that have already been paid still appear as due.

“real time forecasting brilliance”

Pros

Love the real time integration with Xero which makes income forecasting incredibly fast and it's also simple to model multiple scenarios in a short amount of time.

Cons

For now I haven't come across anything to dislike and honestly I doubt I will.

“Clear year round cash flow view”

Pros

One thing it does really well is give a clear visual picture of how my cash flow is likely to look across the entire year. It also lets you adjust the expected payment dates for bills which gives you flexibility to test different timing scenarios and manage cash flow more effectively.

Cons

No drawbacks from my end.

“Nothing gets missed!”

Pros

Right away, it fit neatly into Xero and let us organize our chart of account codes into groups and sub-groups which gave us a much clearer view of cash coming in and going out. It also pushed us to pay closer attention to realistic cash receipt dates. Another big plus is being able to review past spending and assign future dates to larger annual expenses so nothing gets missed and there are no nasty surprises.

Cons

Only a minor complaint: the sync scheduler could use a bit more flexibility, such as offering hourly syncs instead of just daily ones for businesses handling a high volume of transactions.

“Wish we had this sooner”

Pros

After syncing everything with our accounting software, it gives us a fast, easy cash flow forecast whenever we need one. It's the kind of tool I've been wishing was around for years.

Cons

Getting familiar with budgets versus actual forecasts has been a bit confusing and parts of the interface could definitely be clearer. It's also somewhat frustrating that editing the expense categories is fairly limited.

“Xero integration done right!”

Pros

Something that really works well with the software is how smoothly it connects with Xero Accounting Software. Getting it set up for each client was also fairly easy especially compared with other cash flow software apps on the market.

Cons

At this point, I don't have any complaints or dislikes about the software.

“Gives a lot of flexibility”

Pros

Getting this up and running with Xero was very easy and bringing in budgets, whether by import or direct entry, was simple as well. It's been really useful for reviewing and adjusting bill and invoice dates for cash flow planning. The scenario planning and comparison features are very helpful and the chart outputs are excellent for presenting information. It also gives you the flexibility to move and group cash in and out categories.

Cons

Apart from the charts, the export options are fairly limited since outputs only come as CSV files so working with them offline isn't especially quick or convenient. You end up having to create your own formulas, formatting and everything else. I know they're working on Excel exports which I'm hoping will arrive soon.

“Helpful QuickBooks connection”

Pros

The QuickBooks Online integration is really useful.

Cons

It does a helpful job of laying out the information you need but I still haven't managed to fully understand the reports it generates. You can print and send cash flow reports to other people although you can't add your own company logo while the Float logo appears by default. The promotional material says you can get it up and running within a day and that may be true but I wouldn't want to rely on the data that quickly. It takes time to verify that everything is accurate and that the information in QuickBooks has been entered in the right place. Since I'd never used anything like this before, it felt like hard work to get started. Their videos do explain the steps but when you don't yet know what you're supposed to be doing or even what you need to learn, it takes a while to understand both the process and the purpose. The YouTube videos are useful but when you're trying to figure things out from scratch, the speaker talks far too fast and in such a flat tone that it's hard for a beginner to follow. Once you understand the system a bit better, it still feels dull but at least it becomes easier to follow what she's saying. With everything going on during COVID-19, the cash flow view is also too long for what I need: it shows 20 months, while I only want to see 6. Maybe that option exists but I haven't been able to find how to shorten it. For now, I've given up on the reporting section and may come back to it later.

“Reliable forecasts”

Pros

Getting it up and running was really easy and the whole setup took less than a day. It connected with Xero without any issues and from the free trial onward I had access to plenty of helpful setup videos as well as useful webinars. Putting together multiple scenarios doesn't take much time and I really value the confidence it gives me in the accuracy of the projections since it pulls directly from Xero instead of relying on a spreadsheet.

Cons

I haven't come across any feature I dislike yet. That said, as a small not-for-profit organisation, the pricing is on the higher side for us although I do recognise the value the product offers.

“best forecasting with timeline feature”

Pros

The timeline feature gives us exactly what we need for forecasting. I've tested other cash flow forecasting tools that look polished and offer lots of data but Float has delivered the most accurate and useful forecasting out of all of them.

Cons

I've noticed that it doesn't seem to import the Xero Budget.

“clear and detailed cash forecasting”

Pros

Has been really easy to use for both our team and our clients. It makes it much simpler for clients to stay on top of their cash flow forecasting than it was before because everything is clear, easy to follow and still detailed down to a very granular level.

Cons

It would be even better if it could also generate projected profit and loss statements and balance sheets.

“Easy to use”

Pros

Using it day to day feels very easy and it connects really well with Xero.

Cons

A couple of additions would make it even better: the ability to use scenario layers as the base for a second scenario built as a variation of the first and PDF exports from the cash flow and daily breakdown pages that keep the original page formatting.

“Plenty of guidance”

Pros

Connecting it with Xero was smooth and there was plenty of useful guidance on how to get the most value from the cash flow projections.
