“Substitute for Excel as a Controlling Tool

Compared to Excel, Board is less error prone and provides more stability. The graphics are clear and demonstrative. Additionally, it allows you to restrict someone's rights to make changes.

Cons

Sometimes, the software shuts down without any apparent reason. The wording used is not always clear. It also requires an additional software for presentations, as converting it into a PowerPoint picture is not the ideal solution. Exporting to Excel tends to disrupt the formatting.

What I like about Board is the flexible drill-through and drill-anywhere functionalities.

Cons

Printable reports lack certain functionalities. (Excel export functionality solves this problem.) There is no option to hide empty lines or lines with minimal values, which is important for accurate totals, especially when comparing with the previous year.

Learning, using and installing Board is very easy. It offers both on-premises and cloud versions which makes it a free platform. The tool provides various interesting BI functionalities and it is efficient in reporting, dashboarding and planning/budgeting.

Board allows you to use different sources as a base, implement tailored reports for various types of users, facilitate communication between users within the platform, save reports as favorites for easy access and provides a user-friendly experience with intuitive navigation, accessible through a web browser.

Cons

The offline functionality doesn't work properly, and the printouts are not aesthetically pleasing (unfortunately, they are necessary). Exporting to Excel as a flat table is also not possible from the web browser.

There are no free online or alternative format courses available. However, a community has been established where users can share the problems they encounter, and others can provide solutions and engage in discussions.

As a developer, I find BOARD to be a complete BI solution that allows me to easily create powerful and fast data models. The use of 'sparsity' in calculating cube object space is a great strength in modeling. One of the advantages is the ability to rename and change relationships on the go. The logical and visually appealing interface of BOARD creates a pleasant working environment that improves productivity. It also allows end users to write back to cubes, create and modify entities and establish workflows and security processes. Managers can add users and determine access levels without involving developers. The real-time dynamic geo-charts feature allows the creation of contextual maps. Recently, BOARD opened the BOARD Community, where users can ask questions, share example data models, and access documentation and videos. The community site is one of the best forums I've encountered, with passionate and knowledgeable members. It's a great platform to quickly gain knowledge, discuss ideas with peers and consultants, and have fun. The forum complements the formal support portal. Having used several enterprise BI systems, I can confidently say that BOARD is the most exciting, fun, and logical system I've ever experienced. It makes work enjoyable and provides a sense of satisfaction as I continually discover something new.

Cons

Learning the unique skills to leverage BOARD over other apps was a slow process for me, even after completing the full training package in London. However, with the latest release and direct access to BOARD experts and peers through the community forum, working with BOARD has become an exciting and enjoyable experience. At this point, I cannot state any cons, although that doesn't mean there aren't any. The issues I had have all been addressed in the latest release and with the support of the community.

I started using Board in 2007 with version 6.0, and over the past 11 years, it has continued to upgrade and becoming an easy to use and easy to develop product. The support provided by Board is exceptional, as they not only offer solutions to problems but also provide development solutions. One aspect I particularly love is that BOARD is an "ALL IN ONE" tool, eliminating the need for additional tools to create a CPM environment. In my opinion, this tool offers the best quality-price ratio for CPM products.

Cons

I don't have much to say in this regard, but if I had to provide feedback, I believe the documentation could be improved.

I find this software to be highly flexible and can be set up within a couple of days. I have the option to create reports either directly in BOARD or in the Excel/PowerPoint environment. The smaller size of the vendor allows for a good relationship with consultants, technicians and marketing experts at the headquarters. The interface works well with SAP, CRM MS Dynamics, and Cognos TM1 and the database structure is logically set up.

Cons

The Excel add-in's performance is limited and occasionally causes crashes. When considering purchasing the software as a BI tool, one must also consider the need for a datamart.
