clear view of business finances

Pros

One of the things I enjoy about Xero is how quickly it gives me a full picture of my businesss financial health. I can also keep track of money coming in and going out across multiple bank accounts and credit cards without any hassle.

Cons

There's a slight learning curve at the beginning like with any new software but getting started with it is pretty easy and it doesn't take much time to figure out how everything works.

Pros

Using it is not a hassle, plus it works really well with other apps and I can access everything from anywhere.

Cons

It would be even better if it connected with Outlook.

too confusing to manage

Pros

I honestly don't have anything positive to mention.

Cons

Trying to use it on my own, even with help from an accountant, didn't work out. Everything felt too fast-paced and at times it was just confusing to follow.

accurate and efficient every time

Pros

Xero consistently makes my work more efficient while keeping everything accurate and that's something I really appreciate about it.

Cons

I honestly haven't come across any drawbacks because it keeps performing beyond what I expect.

confident diy bookkeeping

Pros

Getting the basics set up with help from a Xero partner made a huge difference and once that foundation was in place, I was able to figure out the rest without much trouble. There are plenty of partners available if you need support which makes the onboarding process feel very manageable. What I really appreciate is the independence it gives me to handle my own accounting, while still having my accountant review everything each quarter before I lodge my BAS. It's also helped me finally understand where my business stands financially which I used to avoid on other platforms because they felt too complicated behind the scenes.

Cons

The one thing I'd really like to see added is an automatic billing option for clients.

useful integrations, trickier navigation

Pros

Our accountants and bookkeepers seem to really enjoy using it and it integrates well with other applications and file management software.

Cons

If finance isn't really your area, getting around the platform can be a little frustrating. MYOB feels much more user friendly and simpler to navigate but it doesn't offer the same level of integration with other products.

multi-page invoices are broken

Pros

Not only is it easy to use but the system is also pretty easy to understand.

Cons

Anything over two pages on a bill or invoice becomes a real problem. Once it's saved, I cannot edit it, approve it or even print it. On top of that submitting a support ticket has been pointless. The staff who reply are polite and seem to care but the issue never actually gets resolved. I have submitted several tickets and every single time I have had to come up with my own workaround because no one has fixed the problem.

checks every box beautifully

Pros

After trying several accounting tools and still running into gaps somewhere in the workflow, Xero has finally covered everything I need. A huge plus is how well it integrates with payment gateways in my country and the personalized support from agents in my hometown makes the whole experience even better.

Cons

I haven't come across any issues yet and honestly I don't expect that to change.

fantastic invoicing and billing

Pros

Its invoicing and billing tools were my favorite part and they made everything much simpler to handle.

Cons

The inventory tracking side wasn't as user friendly as the rest of the features.

clean dashboard design

Pros

The dashboard layout is one of the better parts. It keeps everything looking very organized and uncluttered almost to the point of feeling a little too plain.

Cons

Over the past year and a half, I have had to contact customer support quite a bit and getting answers in real time has been a problem. Usually I have to wait at least a full day for a response and by the time they reply, I often have more questions which means waiting yet another day. I also really appreciated the feature that used to download my bank statements automatically but after they updated the banking connection on their platform, I now have to handle that manually.

handy setup and reporting

Pros

Setting up items and accounts is pretty easy and applying payments and sending invoices is simple too. There are also many reporting options available which is very helpful.

Cons

One thing I'd like to see improved is better protection against duplicate accounts. For instance, if our bookkeeper makes a small typo when entering a Contact name for a payment like leaving out a letter or adding an apostrophe as the system creates a brand-new record and then we end up with two Contacts for the same person or organization. It would be much better if there were a pop-up asking something like, Are you sure you meant to create a new Contact instead of using this existing one? before a duplicate gets added.

fast, user friendly accounting

Pros

The interface is clean and user friendly so getting around the system doesn't take much effort. It also responds quickly and the integrations with plenty of other platforms and bank accounts are really useful.

Cons

The biggest downside is the cost. It feels expensive and I think it should be more affordable for smaller businesses like mine.

fantastic dashboard and integrations

Pros

Handling business finances with Xero is very easy. The interface is also user friendly and it keeps all of my account information in one central place. A standout feature for me is the dashboard because it's clear, customizable and gives an excellent snapshot of where things stand at any moment. It also integrates really well with other platforms for tasks like receipt capture and more detailed business analysis.

Cons

Overall I am very pleased with how it performs. That said, our bookkeeper still handles some reporting manually because he finds certain tasks easier to do in Excel than this tool. The BA tool integrations help offset that issue though.

Pros

One thing that's really useful is how it warns me whenever I am about to enter a duplicate transaction.

Cons

The newer two-factor authentication has made logging in more tiring especially if the screen sits idle for a few minutes.

fantastic features and setup

Pros

Xero has an impressive range of features and it's very easy to use and get up and running. That said the simple setup shouldn't mean skipping the planning stage things like designing the chart of accounts properly and choosing the right third-party integrations still deserve real time and attention. Putting that effort in early pays off many times later.

Cons

There's always room for improvement though none of the issues are major. It would be helpful to have more flexible and detailed user permissions, along with better handling of bill credit notes and the option to include those as paid within a remittance.

flexible reports and handy app

Pros

Getting into the detail behind any entry is fast and easy. The reports can be customized very easily and the mobile app is really useful when I am away from my desk.

Cons

Payroll is probably the part I enjoy the least. The payslips seem a little confusing and I often have to explain them to employees.

fantastic automatic integration

Pros

Xero is very simple to navigate and genuinely user‑friendly. Even staff without a finance background can use it without any trouble. It also integrates well with our school management system, pulling in invoices and contacts from there. The integration works almost automatically and doesn't need anyone to run a manual sync. AMAZING PLATFORM!

Cons

None at all! Honestly there's nothing I dislike about this tool.
