powerful integrations for faster closes

Pros

One of the biggest advantages is how well it integrates with just about anything which really helps cut down the time needed for month-end close.

Cons

A downside is that receipts sometimes match only by dollar amount instead of also checking the supplier name and that can create bookkeeping errors.

powerful tools and helpful training

Pros

Xero covers just about everything you need in one place and our clients really enjoy using it. The training portal is also very useful and adds a lot of value.

Cons

Getting started can feel overwhelming at first because there is a lot to learn and take in.

flexible integrations and compatibility

Pros

It integrates with a wide range of CRM platforms and other software so it works well alongside the tools I already use. The compatibility is a big plus.

Cons

At first, it was fairly difficult to get my head around but after spending some time with it, it started to feel much more user friendly.

reliable accounting with strong integrations

Pros

Xero's biggest strength is that it simply works. It's a mature, well-established platform so major bugs are rarely an issue. It covers all the core features you need, including reporting, multiple accounts and cost centres. The templates are fully customizable, bank balances can be imported directly and there are plenty of integrations available with other tools.

Cons

One thing that happens from time to time is that it rolls out major updates. While that's ultimately a good thing, the interface can suddenly look quite different and it takes some time to adjust and relocate certain functions.

handy mobile invoicing

Pros

Using our mobile phones, we were able to record expenses and send invoices without any hassle.

Cons

It would be even better if it could integrate with Acello since that's the software we use for project planning and client billing.

billing and reconciliation win

Pros

We've been really happy with Xero because it has basically solved all of our accounting and billing issues.

Cons

Honestly we've loved using it since it offers every feature we had been looking for. Once we connected our bank account and Shopify store, reconciliation became much more manageable for us.

reliable daily accounting companion

Pros

Day to day this software handles exactly what I need it to. Payroll integration could be stronger and I'd also like it to work better with my bank accounts when it comes to reconciliation but aside from that, it's a great piece of software that I have ended up relying on every single day.

Cons

Switching from our older systems and QuickBooks to this accounting software turned out to be an excellent move. Deployment was simple and the web-based access means we can use it from anywhere with an internet connection. Creating a quote and then converting it into an invoice once a client approves it is a really useful feature and being able to add inventory items on the fly has been a welcome bonus.

At this point I am disappointed with it and may end up switching to a different option.

Cons

Honestly I don't have anything positive to say about it, not even one thing.

affordable accounting that scales

Pros

Getting started with Xero turned out to be easier than I expected. The only unpleasant surprise came at tax time, when I realized the default expense accounts and descriptions don't line up 1:1 with IRS categories. I should have looked at that more carefully when setting up my chart of accounts especially since Xero is a New Zealand company and the system I used before was local. Because of that, I now need to review all of my 2018 transactions and in the meantime the IRS is holding a much larger tax payment than necessary until I can fix everything and file my return under an extension. On the plus side, importing data from banks and other financial institutions has gone much better with Xero because it uses a widely recognized import service that those institutions already trust. Another feature that really helps is being able to match several invoices to one bank deposit since I usually don't make a separate trip to the bank for every check. That will become even more useful as my business continues to grow. I'd probably benefit from working with an accountant on this but I still haven't found one who understands both craft businesses and Xero.

Cons

It's full professional double entry accounting software at a very affordable price. It supports both cash and accrual accounting, integrates to financial institutions to pull in transactions and uses a standard importer that the banks recognize instead of simply trying to log in remotely and setting off fraud alerts. It also lets me match multiple invoices to a single deposit that comes in from the bank feed. Best of all, it seems like something I can continue using as the company expands.

fantastic reputation and integrations

Pros

Overall a fantastic product and I honestly wouldn't consider switching to another system.

Cons

Its biggest strengths are the user friendly design and strong reputation. On top of that the wide range of available integrations is excellent.

Promising accounting tool

Pros

Back when we started using it, the product was decent overall and since we were among the early adopters, I am sure it has improved quite a bit since then.

Cons

Getting started with it was fairly less easy during onboarding.

powerful integrations and automation

Pros

Connecting it with our ecommerce tools has allowed us to automate most of the routine work. We also use the mobile app to monitor receipts and keep everything updated in the system. Another big plus is that our accountant can access all the details needed and handle things independently without relying on us constantly.

Cons

It integrates well with a wide range of tools, there are plenty of online resources available and it offers true multicurrency accounting. The automation features are very useful, the user community is supportive and having apps for both Android and iOS is convenient. I also appreciate that the plans are structured around actual business needs.

ideal for small business

Pros

It works really well for small businesses or anyone just getting a startup off the ground.

Cons

After using this software for 2 years, I can say I genuinely enjoy it. The way I use it makes it very simple to work with and even without an accounting background, you can still pick it up quickly and learn how to use it without much trouble.
