“slick interface with useful add-ons”
Pros
The modern interface makes Xero feel very approachable for a small business like ours. Unlike traditional bookkeeping software that feels crowded and overloaded, it is much cleaner and easier to navigate. Visual elements like charts and graphs make reviewing and understanding financial data far more user‑friendly and less of a hassle. Another strong point is the wide selection of add‑on tools available which gives you plenty of flexibility with integrations.
Cons
That said having so many available features also creates a downside. A lot of them come as add-ons so you have to pay extra to purchase and connect them. Because of that, it can end up being more expensive than some competing options. And even though the interface is user friendly, it still takes a fair amount of time to really learn the platform inside and out.

“accounting finally under control”
Pros
Running my books as a sole trader used to feel completely overwhelming and Xero has organzied the whole process for me 100%.
Cons
I am on the entry-level plan and the limitation is that it only supports a single currency.

“simple invoicing, dated reports”
Pros
As my first accounting software for the business it handled what I needed it to do. The invoicing and billing features were simple, easy and got the job done.
Cons
At the same time it felt pretty outdated and the interface wasn't very good. Creating reports also took quite a while which made the process frustrating.

“customizable reports and friendly design”
Pros
Xero's reporting tools felt easy to customize and just as simple to read and understand. The software also came across as very user friendly overall.
Cons
Customer support is one area where it could do better. Waiting to hear back about issues is frustrating although that does tend to happen with bigger companies.

“fantastic automation for charities”
Pros
Its automation and AI tools save me a huge amount of time. Automatic reminders for overdue invoices mean I don't have to deal with awkward follow-ups with clients and repeating bills come pre-coded while also flagging anything that's been missed. The biggest time saver for a charity though, is the tracking feature which makes it possible to produce grant-specific tracking reports.
Cons
Its payroll is not something I enjoy using especially since there are much better third-party options out there. It's also really frustrating that you cannot limit what other users can see when it comes to certain accounts, transactions or balances.

“online access, frustrating setup”
Pros
The only real advantage was that everything was maintained entirely online. Aside from that, there really wasn't anything else I considered a benefit.
Cons
Getting it set up was difficult for someone without much experience and once the setup was done poorly, it was very hard to fix or correct later.

“organized budgeting that delivers”
Pros
Everything stays well organized with this software and it handles my accounting reliably. It also supports planning and budgeting in an efficient and accurate way which has been really helpful.
Cons
It does take a while to get comfortable with all of the features and learn the best way to use them so there's definitely some time you need to invest upfront.

“Helpful cloud accounting tools”
Pros
Running the business finances feels more manageable with Xero since it's cloud-based and built to support both small and larger companies. It helps simplify day to day tasks like paying bills, submitting expense claims and handling routine financial work. The mobile app is also a big plus because it makes tracking the business much more convenient when away from the desk.
Cons
At the start it does require an investment of both time and money to get everything working properly for the company. There's also a learning curve especially if you want to take full advantage of all the features the software offers.

“Confusing app”
Pros
After switching from another accounting system to Xero, the phone app became the way I submitted my timesheets so I could get paid. Before that, I had to build a Google Sheet every week and send it by email. That process often caused payroll mistakes so using the app made my pay much more accurate.
Cons
There were problems whenever the office hadn't uploaded the jobs in time while I was entering my timesheet each day because I couldn't assign my hours properly. I then had to track everything somewhere else until it was updated. The app also wasn't very easy to use and I wasn't able to create a template.

“lacking features and weak reports”
Pros
The interface looks modern and clean and the price is fairly affordable. It could work well enough for someone running a very simple business with only basic accounting needs and limited accounting knowledge.
Cons
It really falls short when it comes to advanced features. A lot of the tools and functions I expected to find just were not included and the reporting is not very good either.

“Ideal for non-accountants”
Pros
It is very user friendly and made accounting much more manageable for someone without an accounting background like me. The interface is excellent and the features are laid out in a very simple manner.
Cons
It definitely isn't the cheapest option out there. That said, considering the range of features and how well everything works, it still feels like good value for the money.

“powerful reporting and invoicing”
Pros
Xero is easy to use and it offers really detailed features for building company-specific reports, managing channels and keeping customer information organized. Creating invoices is quick, tracking invoices and bills is very simple and the user management options are flexible enough to fit different needs.
Cons
One area that hasn't worked as well for me is forecasting so I have usually had to handle that separately outside of it.

“xero and stripe work brilliantly”
Pros
The interface is really well designed and the Stripe integration works very nicely. I can import my bank statements into Xero which makes bank reconciliation much simpler. It also lets me upload receipts so everything stays organized in one place.
Cons
Every now and then, uploading a receipt creates a duplicate journal entry. There are also times when the system goes down on its own for a few hours.

“reliable bank feeds and invoices”
Pros
Handling payables with Xero is very easy and the invoice templates are handy for managing receivables. The interface is well designed and is easy to move around in. Once the automated bank feeds are set up, they work very well and save a lot of time. The standard financial reports are also quick to generate when needed.
Cons
A few smaller additions would make the software even better. Right now, there's no option to post manual journals in foreign currencies or create journals directly to accounts receivable or payable. Also, the bank feed options in Canada are still quite limited.

“reliable reporting for growing teams”
Pros
Across several small and mid-sized businesses where I have rolled out and implemented this platform, it has consistently proven to be a very effective financial reporting solution. Users have regularly been happy with both how usable it is and the range of functionality it offers.
Cons
As a company's financial reporting needs become more complex, there can be a few minor growing pains along the way. That said, it does seem responsive and willing to address those issues as they come up.

“Best in class reporting and integrations”
Pros
Among online accounting platforms at this level, Xero stands out for having the strongest financial reporting. I have worked with plenty of competing products and Xero has been the best when it comes to reporting, analytics and forecasting. Another big advantage is the huge number of apps it integrates and syncs with.
Cons
It does have some limits around inventory tracking but that's really because it isn't designed to be a dedicated inventory management system. It's an accounting package. When you pair it with Dear Inventory Systems, it becomes a top-tier setup for inventory tracking, invoicing and accounting.

“Bank imports made easy”
Pros
It's easy to use and gives us the accounting information we need to keep the business running well. The part I appreciate most is being able to import bank transactions.
Cons
One area that falls short for me is Fixed Assets. It can be confusing at times and I still don't understand why there's no option to attach a copy of the vendor invoice to a fixed asset record. That's frustrating especially since invoice copies can be attached to most other transaction types.

“quick invoicing and smart VAT handling”
Pros
It is easy to use and the system is very user friendly. Invoicing is fast and it's helpful that you can either use the built-in templates or bring in your own. It also handles different VAT rates across regions really well.
Cons
The reporting side feels pretty basic and doesn't offer much in the way of meaningful insight. Another limitation is that it only lets you connect one PayPal account at a time.
