too much event clutter

Pros

Its interface works well and overall it is very simple and easy for me to use.

Cons

Withthis platformset up using auto-capture, it creates a lot of extra work because we have to dig through too many events. I'd much rather have a defined tracking plan focused only on what we actually want to capture instead of collecting everything. On top of that it doesn't feel as enterprise-ready as some of the other analytics platforms available.

Helps with real growth

Pros

Working with Heap has been a good way for me to build new skills while contributing to real projects at the same time. The culture feels welcoming and there's a strong focus on teamwork, collaboration across the team and continuous improvement.

Cons

The process seems a little slow and progress doesn't always move as quickly as expected. More clarity and quicker decision-making would definitely make things more efficient.

buggy sessions slow things down

Pros

The thing I like the most about Heap is that I as a non-technical team member can set up tracking events on my own without needing any coding skills or having to pull in the engineering team.

Cons

At the moment, the sessions feature feels pretty buggy and it can also be fairly slow.

price is very high

Pros

One thing Heap does really well is automatic event tracking. It cuts down a lot of the manual instrumentation work which saves my product and design teams a meaningful amount of time. The interface is also user friendly and putting together funnels, retention reports and user journey analysis is fairly easy even without me relying heavily on engineering. It's especially helpful for getting a clearer view of how real users behave across web applications.

Cons

Some of the more advanced reports can be confusing at the beginning and there's definitely a learning curve once you get into deeper analysis. The pricing also feels high for smaller teams or startups and I have noticed occasional lag when working with very large datasets.

minimal effort needed for setup

Pros

Whenever a new question comes up about user behavior, I can just sign in, look up the event I care about and immediately see how people are interacting with it. That flexibility is incredible because I don't have to predict in advance what I'll want to measure later. Once the initial development setup was done, there was basically nothing else I needed to change on the development site. I am also able to review how newly released features are performing right away. This is the first tool I have used that feels this powerful while still needing so little ongoing development configuration.

Cons

Pricing could maybe be a bit lower but honestly I have very little to complain about.

seamless data connection

Pros

Getting started with it was easy for me, with practically no learning curve at all. It brings product data and website data together seamlessly which makes it very convenient for me to work with.

Cons

Well the web sessions and user counts can look very different from what appears in Google Analytics. That makes it harder to know which platform should be treated as the source of truth.

useful autocapture, too much data

Pros

Heap's auto-capture feature has been a big help. It tracks user interactions automatically, so I don't need to manually configure event tracking for every little action. That saves me a lot of time and also gives me a much fuller view of how users behave.

Cons

One challenge is that the amount of data can get overwhelming. Since auto-capture brings in so much information, it's not always simple to sort through everything and identify the insights that actually matter. More advanced filtering options would really help narrow things down.

AI copilot is the best feature

Pros

Generating reports and digging into data feels very easy for me with Heap. Building dashboards doesn't take much effort and being able to share them through public links is really helpful for stakeholders who don't have access to my Heap workspace. The AI Copilot is also a standout feature because it saves me a lot of clicks when I want to analyze data and can just ask it directly instead.

Cons

At times the filter options can feel a bit confusing and not very user friendly.

perfect for my team

Pros

Heap's fully customizable event structure is a big plus for my product team. I am also really into the live event data feed, since it lets me watch activity in real time and filter production sessions using my own IP. It genuinely feels like the platform was built by engineers who understand what product teams actually need.

Cons

I'd put more focus on improving the reporting table results so users have more flexibility to choose segments or events directly within the table, instead of having to refresh the entire query every time.

Overall a valuable tool

Pros

My team has been using Heap for product analytics for about three years and it has been a valuable tool for how we evaluate and improve the product. We check it regularly and have gotten a lot out of it. One thing that really sets it apart is how much user event data it captures which means we often don't need to plan every bit of tracking in advance. The visual analyzer is especially useful because it lets me inspect any page in the product and understand how users are interacting with it. Heap also gives us the best high-level metrics, such as the number of unique users viewing the product. On top of that the exploration features are helpful for uncovering new issues and identifying data points worth digging into. I have contacted the support a couple of times as well and each time the response was reasonably fast, helpful and friendly.

Cons

There are still a few areas wherethis platformhas been frustrating for us. The initial setup is fairly easy comparable to other analytics platforms but getting the visual analyzer working required extra steps that felt a bit tedious. It was also not always obvious when something had been configured incorrectly. Sincethe softwarecollects such a large volume of data, finding the exact event we need can sometimes be difficult and there have been times when we ended up using the manual API to track events instead. That said, their manual API is very easy to use.The platformalso includes a frustration-click feature and while I can see why that metric matters, it feels pretty ambiguous when it comes to knowing whether We have actually improved or resolved the issue and We have put real effort into trying to measure that.

proven top tool!

Pros

Out of all the analytics platforms I have worked with, this one feels the most powerful while still being very user friendly. It gives my product teams a lot to work with and does an excellent job of turning data into clear, useful dashboards and charts that are simple for me to understand. On top of that Heap University offers fantastic learning resources.

Cons

Getting every event configured exactly the way you want inthis platformcan be a bit challenging if you don't have a Data Engineer available to handle the coding needed behind the scenes. Not all data collection depends on that level of support but a lot of it goes beyond what most product managers can realistically manage on their own.

Pros

Cons

It's still missing a number of features compared to competing products and the support has been awful since it was moved overseas which I assume happened after the recent acquisition.

Good for product event analysis

Pros

One of the biggest benefits for me is how flexibly anyone on my team can analyze product events without needing a lot of setup or specialized help.

Cons

A downside is that server-side events aren't very transparent, so you still have to depend on the engineering team to understand and work with them.

autocapture transformed our analytics

Pros

Its autocapture and post-capture event definition have been a huge win for us. We're able to capture everything upfront, then only spend time organizing the user events that actually matter to our business. That means we can postpone or sometimes completely avoid the effort of defining events in advance. It also saves valuable developer time since my team doesn't have to keep adding event-tracking code throughout the front-end codebase. Putting event definitions and taxonomy into the hands of my Product Manager and Customer Experience Managers has completely changed how User Analytics and Product Analytics work at my company. The payoff is even bigger on the engineering side because it frees them up to stay focused on building customer-facing features instead of getting pulled into the broader work of implementing user analytics especially the more detailed side of taxonomized product analytics.

Cons

Built-in graphing and data analysis tools do the job but they're fairly basic and not especially polished. We also purchasedthe platform'sConnect feature, so we can still build very complex queries and visualizations from its data but it would definitely be better ifthe platformoffered stronger capabilities right out of the box.

Serves me the best!

Pros

Heap gives me an incredibly detailed view of user behavior, down to exactly who is using which features and how often. That kind of insight is something every business should be using to improve its product. The setup is very simple, since my dev team barely has to do anything beyond adding the script and data starts getting captured from day one. My CSM and the support team have been fantastic whenever more complex questions come up and the UI keeps getting better while still being beginner-friendly. I use it almost every day and it honestly feels as helpful as having three extra research team members while working three times faster.

Cons

The biggest downside is the cost which can get fairly high depending on your use case. It's important to pay close attention to session limits and how many projects you plan to manage. That said, their team is very helpful and works with you to make sure you're getting the best value for the money. If you clearly explain what you need fromthe platform, they'll usually try to put together the best option possible.

Better than many alternatives

Pros

Having a live data stream makes it incredibly simple for me to tag the exact event I need. The metadata that comes with each event right out of the box is stronger than what I have seen in other autocapture tools and it saves me a lot of time. Reporting is another big win here as it's more capable than many alternatives and Heap lets me build a much broader range of reports than similar platforms.

Cons

Journeys hasn't been nearly as useful for me as it was made out to be, although the rest of the reporting features are still very strong. There are also a few small annoyances, like plan usage only showing the total number of sessions used instead of something clearer like X sessions out of Y allotted which makes it less useful than it should be.

user friendly dashboards!

Pros

Getting started with it was not a problem for me. The interface is easy enough that I was able to build useful dashboards even without any prior experience. At the same time, it's clearly capable of a lot more, since I have seen coworkers run much more advanced analysis using the data available.

Cons

There's nothing major to complain about. If anything, I just wishthe productincluded a few basic, ready-made usage dashboards so you don't have to build everything from scratch.

powerful tracking and customization

Pros

Visual labeling is really useful for me, historical data starts getting tracked right away, session replays are a big plus and the platform is highly customizable overall.

Cons

Keep in mind that there is a bit of a learning curve at first, although their resources and support are very helpful. It can also be tricky to break down metrics across different domains or environments but once the basics click, that process becomes much more manageable.

Offer the best support

Pros

Getting quick insights out of Heap takes very little effort for me and connecting it to Redshift and S3 is easy. That setup lets me work through large datasets in another environment and build lightning-fast internal user dashboards. The support team has also been outstanding as responses are fast, personalized and usually include helpful screenshots and relevant links.

Cons

The snapshots feature still needs work for how we use it. Right now, it only captures data that is immediately available and misses live data that takes an extra second to load.

proven helpful for me

Pros

Heap has been really useful for helping me understand how users interact with my current platform. The funnel analysis is excellent and the effort analysis also adds a lot of value when it comes to uncovering actionable insights.

Cons

One limitation is that we're unable to identify unique users when filtering by custom properties attached to an event. For instance, with the Application Submitted event, we use custom properties such as SKUs but if we try to see the unique users for that event while filtering by SKU, that data doesn't appear. I'd be happy to share a detailed example by email.

support is the best

Pros

Speed is its biggest advantage for me. It runs queries on event streams incredibly fast which is exactly what most product instrumentation work relies on and that's a huge improvement over traditional SQL approaches that usually take much longer. The platform also becomes very user friendly once I have spent a little time learning how events and properties work. There is definitely a short adjustment period at first but after that it feels very seamless to use. On top of that the customer support is excellent. Heap's customer success team has been one of the most proactive teams I have worked with and they're consistently helpful when it comes to getting things done.

Cons

One area that could be better is the integration with Segment especially ifthis platformcould pull in more metadata from it. That said, this is a very minor drawback compared with the many positivesthe platformoffers.

helpful insights, short sessions

Pros

One thing I really appreciate is how thoroughly it captures user interactions and how simple it is for me to pull meaningful insights from them, even in cases we hadn't originally recognized as issues.

Cons

Top self-service tool

Pros

Compared with other user analytics tools I have worked with, Heap has been the strongest when it comes to self-service. There was a bit of a learning curve at first and I had to spend some time with the training materials to understand what I needed to do. Once I got familiar with the available tools and metrics, though, building charts became pretty quick for me. The Live Data Feed has been especially useful because it helps me zero in on the exact user interaction I want to measure without needing engineers to set up additional segment events. Heap has helped me pull fast insights when I have needed to make quick prioritization calls and I have also set up longer-term monitors for the areas I want to track over time.

Cons

The automatic visualizations inthis platformare very good and I like that it lets you choose the chart format that best matches the data, whether that's a bar chart, donut chart, line graph or table. That said, I'd really appreciate more customization options, like being able to apply my own colors or add notes directly to data points when I am preparing charts for presentations. At the moment, I have to take a screenshot and add those notes outsidethe platform.

Pros

Building KPIs and extracting insights from large volumes of data is where this platform really shines for me and that kind of functionality would be incredibly hard for me to reproduce internally without investing a huge amount of time and effort into a custom-built solution.

user friendly analysis, hard navigation

Pros

Labeling events and buttons looks user friendly and running analysis afterward is easy which ends up delivering a ton of value for me.

Cons

One frustrating part is labeling an event when I have to click through several pages to reach the right menu. I need to hit navigate before every single click, otherwisethe platformassumes whatever I clicked is the event I want to track. It would work much better if it stayed in navigate mode until I deliberately choose to measure a feature instead.
