“Frustrating layout”

Pros

At work, we rely on this software to confirm whether a customer has device protection and to see exactly which products are covered. It does that job fairly well overall.

Cons

The interface feels very unfriendly and the layout makes it harder than it should be to get around which turns navigation into a frustrating experience. It's not the kind of design that gives you much confidence in the product.

Does an excellent job of handling data and turning it into informative, insightful presentations.

Cons

Can be difficult to use for new users although there are training courses available to help with the learning curve.

Pros

The desktop version is free and getting it installed is a very easy process. It also connects to almost any data source I need, whether that is CSV, web data, Excel, SQL, ODBC and more. The ETL capabilities are a big advantage too especially with Power Query which does an excellent job turning raw, unstructured data into something clean and structured. DAX is another strong point since it gives me the flexibility to build custom measures and calculated columns for the exact business metrics I want. Publishing to the cloud through the Power BI service on Azure is also very useful because it makes reports accessible from anywhere in the world. On top of that even basic users can create standard charts without much difficulty once the data is structured. Inventory management with Power Pivot has also been extremely valuable and hard to overstate.

Cons

Uses a huge amount of system resources which can be frustrating. Monitoring and service-related overhead also tends to increase when there are many heavy report consumers. When working with very large volumes of data, constant optimization becomes necessary to keep things performing well. Another limitation is the translation of DAX formulas into French which can be inconvenient for French speaking users.

Pros

Gives us one place to pull data from multiple sources and see everything in a single dashboard. The views are highly customizable so we can shape them around exactly what we need. We've been using it to monitor the bid process for new work, keep track of current customer revenue and costs and handle sales forecasting as well.

Cons

There is a bit of a learning curve at the beginning even though the tool becomes fairly easy to use once you get familiar with it. Getting up to speed takes a little time but after you understand how to work with and manipulate the data, it starts to feel much more natural.

Pros

Having a free desktop tool for data modeling makes this tool a really solid option for anyone wanting to try it out. The customer support is excellent and the web dashboard gives the kind of visibility you need to make business intelligence actually useful. Scheduled report delivery is another big plus because it helps a lot with presenting and distributing data consistently. On top of that the wide range of features and third-party visualizations makes it a flexible tool that works well for any data-driven team. Publishing from the desktop version to the web version is also extremely simple.

Cons

While creating measures and columns, I've noticed some slowness and a few odd behaviors especially when using those measures or columns as filters. It would also be better if there were an option to choose a theme for background colors.

Pros

It has been really useful for presenting different data visualizations to IT management and other key stakeholders. I've been able to connect it to multiple sources like Microsoft Forms and SharePoint Online and put together the key analytics very quickly. The part I appreciate most is how user friendly it is, you don't need deep business intelligence expertise to build polished dashboards from several different data connections.

Cons

One thing to keep in mind is how it handles larger data volumes. There are some limitations on how much data can be imported so that needs to be considered.

Power BI is a really impressive tool that makes it simple to create meaningful reports from your data. It helps turn raw numbers into something much clearer and easier to interpret.

Cons

Since it includes such a wide range of features and tools which is also part of what makes it so complete and useful, it can sometimes feel a bit complex to work with.

Pros

One thing I really appreciate is how well it integrates with other tools. It offers plenty of visualization options, makes it convenient to build reports in one central place and publish them to users and the regular feature updates keep the platform improving.

Cons

When working with a large volume of data, report performance can slow down and the system may feel a bit clogged.

Pros

Since stepping into a data analytics role, this software has been a really positive tool for me especially since I mainly use it to pull reports from dashboards. It works well for someone still getting started and I'm able to generate reports and coordinate with our IT team whenever changes or updates are needed. One feature I really appreciate is the ability to automate reports so they're sent directly to my email.

Cons

Something I'm not a fan of is the look of the user interface. It feels like the platform puts much more emphasis on functionality than on making the design visually appealing.

Pros

Its a cloud based business intelligence platform and the free desktop version is a big reason it has become so widely used. The online service is also priced quite reasonably. One thing that really helps is its integration with Excel since it lets you keep working with raw data while building BI visualizations at the same time. Another plus is the very active user community which makes getting support and finding answers much easier.

Cons

It usually struggles with tables that have complex relationships. To handle that properly, users often need to build a separate data model first. The free version also comes with a data size limit so if you need to work with larger volumes, you have to move to the paid plan which is understandable. It works very well when the goal is to create reports and dashboards but once you go beyond that, the learning curve becomes much steeper.

Lets me pull data together from multiple databases and analyze everything in one place which is incredibly useful when information is spread across different sources.

Cons

Getting comfortable with the more advanced features takes time. There are tutorials available but they are not always very clear or simple to follow.

Pros

Connects effortlessly with other Microsoft 365 tools. It makes it possible to build a secure, self contained data ecosystem. On top of that once the environment is configured, putting together charts and tables is pretty simple.

Cons

The downsides are the limited real time refresh capability for data sources and the fact that the interface can feel a bit hard to use when you're defining and setting up new projects.

Pros

Coming from other Microsoft tools, its menu feels very natural and easy to use. There's still a learning curve, of course but that familiar layout cuts down the time it takes to get comfortable by quite a bit.

Cons

Switching over from another BI platform does come with a few adjustments since some parts of the Power platform work differently. DAX is a good example. Its not especially hard to pick up but it can become challenging when you're building more complex reports.

Very effective when it comes to visualizing large volumes of data.

Getting the hang of it is challenging and the interface isnt very accessible.

Putting charts together feels much more user friendly here because I can drag and drop different criteria instead of dealing with the clunkier process in Excel where you have to manually select all the columns. The option to customize the graphs so they stand out is also a really valuable feature and I can tell it will be even better once I spend more time getting comfortable with the platform.

Cons

Id really like a way to share reports without having to keep everything inside Power BI. At the moment, the learning curve also feels fairly steep especially when it comes to fully understanding all of the features.

“Quick reporting”

Pros

Something that immediately stood out to me was how impressive the editing capabilities are. The option to undo a specific edit even after making other changes in between is really useful. I also appreciate the reporting feature that clearly shows the relationship between the lookup table and the data table.

Cons

At first, it was a bit confusing to navigate without some kind of tutorial. I also wish it were smarter about choosing the most suitable visualization based on the fields selected. At one point, it asked me to reduce a field with too many values or use it as a filter because the visualization couldn't handle that amount of data and that feels like something that should be improved.

Works really well with other Microsoft tools, exports raw data accurately without issues, makes trends easy to identify and creates useful graphs from the data that's available.

Cons

There can be a bit of lag depending on how the data is being pulled but once that backend issue is sorted out, it performs just fine.

Pros

Building interactive dashboards takes much less effort than expected. It gives users the ability to create powerful visual reports without a lot of complexity and the cloud version includes several really useful features like data gateways, alerts and live visualizations that add a lot of value.

Cons

One limitation is with Power BI Report Server since it misses some very helpful capabilities that are only available in the Power BI cloud version. Another frustration is that measure names or column names in visuals can't be custom renamed which reduces flexibility when presenting reports.

Pros

A big advantage is how well it integrates with a wide range of connectors so connecting different kinds of datasets is very simple. It also offers a comprehensive analytics model that makes it really useful for identifying patterns and trends in the data you work with.

Cons

Getting started can take a bit of adjustment especially for users who are new to this area since there is a slight learning curve at first. That said, with a little trial and error, it becomes much more manageable over time.

Pros

One of the biggest strengths of this software is how easy it is to use. Microsoft also provides really helpful tutorials on its website that you can download which makes it clear right away how everything works. On top of that it feels more user friendly to me than Tableau.

Cons

I honestly do not have many complaints. Tableau may have an edge when it comes to speed and overall capabilities but I still prefer this because of how user friendly it is.
