Regular improvements

Pros

It delivers strong data modeling and transformation through Power Query and once the model is set up properly, DAX makes advanced analytics and KPI calculations extremely capable. Report sharing works really well too, with solid access control through workspaces and apps. Dashboards feel fast and interactive when the data model and PostgreSQL queries are optimized and the overall ecosystem keeps getting better with steady product updates and improvements.

Cons

There is definitely a learning curve especially with DAX and data modeling since both require real expertise to use effectively. As data volume increases, setting up refreshes and keeping them reliable takes ongoing attention. Performance can also start to slip as more people begin using it if monitoring is not handled consistently.

Powerful data visualization

Pros

It has been a really capable platform for data visualization and reporting. It works well with a wide range of data sources and makes it possible to build interactive dashboards that are actually useful day to day. On our side, we rely on it as the main operational dashboard to track accessories and follow the real-time movement of units and that has made visibility and decision-making much better. Another big plus is how well it fits with other Microsoft products like Excel and Teams.

Cons

Getting comfortable with it can take time especially when you start dealing with DAX formulas or more advanced data models. It can also become slower when handling very large datasets and sharing reports sometimes means you need extra licensing.

Makes data accessible

Pros

Turning hard-to-use spreadsheets into dashboards that are much easier to handle, analyze and explore is where this really shines. It makes the data far more accessible and a lot simpler to interpret.

Cons

There is definitely a learning curve at the start. Building a proper Power BI front end takes real skill and without knowledgeable maintenance, things can be fairly prone to breaking.

Useful connection with Microsoft tools

Pros

This tool works really well for building interactive charts, dashboards and reports so data is much easier to explore and understand. The connection with Microsoft tools such as Excel and SharePoint is a big plus and makes day-to-day work more convenient. It also feels beginner-friendly overall, letting users put together useful reports quickly without needing much setup.

Cons

Once you get into the more advanced parts, like DAX formulas and data modeling, the learning curve gets pretty steep and can be tough for beginners to pick up. On top of that, performance tends to slow down with very large or more complex datasets which can make report rendering take longer.

Simple to share department data

Pros

I really appreciate how simple it is to share department data with executives without a lot of extra effort.

Cons

It takes some effort to figure it out. It took me around five months before I was really able to get the most value out of it.

Made us a favorite for clients

Pros

Seeing our detailed vehicle telemetry alongside driver evaluator notes on an ArcGIS map really changed the conversation for our team. That visualization clicked instantly with a lot of clients and it became an aha moment where they started viewing us as their go-to road safety experts.

Cons

The biggest limitation was the price of the top-tier plan especially the option that lets reports be shared publicly without requiring a user login. That cost was high enough to hold us back and we likely would have fully adopted the platform much earlier if that tier had been more affordable.

Dynamic dashboards and live data

Pros

Building dashboards that refresh automatically is a big advantage and it works well with different data sources like Excel and a data lake.

Cons

Getting started with dashboard creation takes time because the learning curve is pretty steep and it can be frustrating to track down tutorials or help docs for very specific problems.

fast reporting

Pros

Our team recently began using it to handle the reports we rely on and the interface has been very user-friendly. Pulling up reports and exporting them is fast and simple which saves time. Another big plus is being able to access everything from my mobile device whenever I need it.

Cons

I honestly haven't run into any major downsides while using it. There was an early issue with reports not updating properly but that seemed to be related to my company's setup and it was resolved pretty quickly.

Budget-friendly option

Pros

It delivers a powerful, user-friendly and cost-effective way to handle data visualization and analysis. It turns complex datasets into practical, actionable insights and the integration with Microsoft tools like Excel and SharePoint makes it especially valuable for companies that want to build a more data-driven workflow.

Cons

When working with larger models, refreshes can regularly run into timeout limits or memory restrictions. That can interrupt service during projects or while testing current dashboards and displays.

Scales well

Pros

A very capable platform although it takes time to learn. It works really well with Excel, does an excellent job pulling data from multiple sources and scales effectively as needs grow.

Cons

it's not the best fit for non-technical users. Sharing reports also requires paid licenses which can get costly depending on usage and needing to republish just to refresh data can be frustrating.

Simple to manage

Pros

Right away, the biggest advantage for me is how simple it is to use. It also works really well as a database management system which makes it even more valuable.

Cons

I've tried to think of any downsides I've run into while using it but honestly, nothing specific comes to mind. It's been a really solid system overall.

Solid analytics platform

Pros

It feels like a powerhouse platform. It's capable of handling far more analysis and database management than I'll probably ever fully use. The interface is well designed and generally simple to use once you understand what you're doing.

Cons

Getting started can definitely feel confusing. That said, there are plenty of videos and learning resources available that make it easier to understand and use everything the platform can do.

connects to plenty of data sources

Pros

It connects to a wide range of data sources, lets me transform and prepare data with Power Query and makes it possible to publish reports without having to wait on a full BI project.

Cons

DAX and the overall data modeling approach are very capable but they are not very user-friendly and learning star schema takes time.

Feature-rich product

Pros

Power BI is a solid data visualization tool with a lot of features packed into it and I also appreciate that it supports running Python scripts.

Cons

The interface feels complex and could definitely be improved. Occasional technical issues can make the overall experience frustrating at times.

Fantastic for data analysis

Pros

It has been really useful for handling data analysis. We also rely on it as a database to keep track of respondent information which makes respondent management much more efficient. It helps us organize details like project ID and respondent status, whether someone is qualified or terminated, all in one place.

Cons

There's honestly nothing negative to point out. It does exactly what we need it to do and includes all the tools required for storing and analyzing data.

Transforms complex data into convenient reports

Pros

One thing that really works well is how it transforms complex data into clear, visual reports. The drag-and-drop interface also makes building charts and reports feel user-friendly and simple.

Cons

it can feel overwhelming for beginners because there are so many features and options.

Incredible final results

Pros

The outcomes you can get from it are genuinely impressive for a team or business. Giving each department its own interactive dashboards, built around the specific data they need for decision-making, brings a ton of real business value.

Cons

Having someone on the team who already knows it well makes a big difference in how quickly you can start benefiting from it. If the initial setup is being handled by someone without previous experience, the learning curve can be pretty steep.

Powerful reporting insights

Pros

This is an extremely powerful tool for building nearly any type of data report. From a user standpoint, the reports are very useful.

Cons

Putting reports together can be somewhat challenging when you're trying to get exactly the outcome you want. It also takes a fair amount of time to build them properly.

Amazing visualization tool

Pros

Its a great visualization tool and it becomes even more valuable once you know M and DAX. Some chart types especially stacked charts, work particularly well for presenting survey data. The slicers and filters also make it simple to build reusable templates which is very helpful when creating reports for different teams or clients.

Cons

Since it is mainly built as an internal business intelligence platform, one thing I would still like to see improved is making dashboard sharing easier for people outside the organization's domain.

Saves a lot of time

Pros

Being able to build custom dashboards that refresh automatically from our data pipeline has been a huge help. It fits right into an automated workflow and saves me a lot of time on a regular basis.

Cons

Honestly, I don't have any complaints about it. It works really well for what we currently need it to do.
