Strong dashboards with analysis tools

Pros

Working with data analysis and building dashboards is very easy in Tableau which makes it a really enjoyable tool to use.

Cons

The pricing could definitely be more affordable and the platform should be a bit less complicated for beginners who are just getting started.

Dashboards that work across teams

Pros

Tableau works well for teams with very different technical skill levels and is approachable enough for a wide range of users. You can keep things basic with simple tables and bar charts or take it much further with dynamic stories, automated data pipelines, email reports, alerts and more. The automation around charts and graphs especially with alerts and emailed outputs, has really transformed our analytics reporting workflow and saves each person hours every week. It's one of those platforms you don't completely value until you start using it and honestly nearly any team could gain a lot from a visual analytics tool that goes well beyond what Excel can do.

Cons

A minor frustration is that alignment can get tricky when working with several tables or charts in the same dashboard. Adjusting column widths to match across multiple tables is especially difficult. We run into this often on client facing reports where the layout needs to look polished and consistent. I'd also like it to include more built in analytical features. For example, we use it to show conversion rates for A/B tests but there's no easy first party way to actually run an A/B test or show those results directly in the dashboard.

Good value for business intelligence

Pros

Connecting data and building dashboards works well. It also lets you manage users and permissions, share and export reports and use it effectively as a BI tool. At this price point, it's hard to find a better option.

Cons

It's still missing quite a few design options. The filters can be difficult to work with and adding data into a report is more of a hassle than it should be.

Strong dashboards with great visuals

Pros

Building dashboards and summary reports in Tableau is really fast. It can handle data from multiple sources and combine everything in one place which saves a lot of time. The platform is highly interactive and includes pretty much all the features needed for data analysis and visualization.

Cons

The biggest downside is the learning curve. It is fairly complex software and it takes a lot of practice to become comfortable with it.

Quick to learn with strong dashboards

Pros

Tableau doesn't take long to learn. The data visualization side is user friendly so most people can pick up the basics quickly and become capable without a huge learning curve.

Cons

Access control and data connections can be a real hurdle especially when setting things up for a larger team. Figuring out permissions is tricky and sometimes it takes a while before people can actually get in and view the dashboards. Also it is simpler to work with and manipulate data in it but it doesn't offer as many convenient software connections as something like Power BI.

Dashboards that work for everyone

Pros

Creating visualizations with this has been really valuable because anyone across the organization can access them and interact with the data on their own. It helps get staff more engaged with using data and there are plenty of features that let you explore and present information in a variety of ways.

Cons

One issue I run into is with connections to external data sources which can be unreliable at times. We mainly use Google Sheets so the problem may be related more to that specific integration.

Easy charts that are quick to learn

Pros

It comes with a wide variety of charts that can be built in a very user friendly and simple way. The features are designed for every kind of user so those of us with less experience can learn to use it quickly, while people who already know the platform well can combine a lot of options to understand the data much better.

Cons

I really don't have anything negative to point out. If there's one area that could be improved, it would be offering a better way to provide learning materials.

Flexible analytics with drag and drop

Pros

Dragging and dropping data fields exactly where they need to go makes building reports and visualizations really easy.

Cons

The biggest downside is the cost since implementing it at the enterprise level can get pretty expensive.

Quick insights from good visuals

Pros

Tableau really stands out for its impressive visualization capabilities, strong performance and user friendly interface. Connecting to multiple data sources is also a big advantage and these are the features we appreciated most while using it.

Cons

The areas that still need improvement are security and after-sales support. Other than that, I haven't come across anything else to dislike.

Dashboards with strong integrations

Pros

Right from the interface Tableau seems user friendly and quick to pick up. The drag and drop setup helps non-programmers build dashboards fast, while the scripting side adds the flexibility needed for more advanced and complex logic inside charts and graphs. The wide range of out of the box integrations with different data stores is another big plus. It makes it possible to pull data from several sources and present it together as one cohesive story. Collaboration is also one of its strongest points since sharing reports and jumping in to edit them is very easy. The cloud version performs just as well as the on-prem setup and the added cloud storage makes temporary data processing much more convenient.

Cons

Dealing with customer support can be frustrating at times. Tickets often sit unanswered unless you follow up with them more than once and some bugs end up staying open for months without any real progress or updates.

Good dashboards for large datasets

Pros

When it comes to handling big data, Tableau stands out as one of the best tools available. I mostly use it to build dashboards and turn data into creative, visually engaging reports.

Cons

It takes a lot of training so there's definitely a learning curve. It's also quite expensive when you compare it with other software options.

Strong reporting with good integration

Pros

We brought all of our regional data into one central place with it and built custom reports around our needs. It's a great tool, integrates well with other platforms and the range of report options has been more than enough for us. You can also create multiple sheets within a single report which helps keep everything organized and efficient.

Cons

When dealing with very large datasets, the platform can start responding slowly. Filters can lag at times too which makes analysis a bit less efficient.

A good cloud analytics platform

Pros

Using Tableau on the cloud has worked really well for me and one thing I like most is how scalable it is. The data cleansing features are also very reliable which helps improve data quality and makes business decision-making much more reliable.

Cons

Honestly I don't have any complaints. It does everything I need when it comes to integrating, preparing and modeling data for real-time visualization.

Control your dashboards flexibly

Pros

Being able to customize the dashboard in different ways is a big plus. You can really choose exactly where each piece of information goes and how it's presented.

Cons

One downside is that it doesn't work on iPad and you're required to upload data from an Excel file.

Good dashboards with room to improve

Pros

Building dashboards with the drag and drop tools is pretty easy which makes putting visuals together fast. That said, once a dashboard has a lot of filters and multiple pages, the actions can start to feel confusing. I'd also love the ability to copy and paste buttons so they stay in the exact same position on new dashboards or at least have better alignment options.

Cons

Customer support has been a weak point and resetting filters on dashboards is more difficult than it should be. A dashboard is meant for exploring different scenarios so having a built-in way to return everything to the default state feels like something that should have been included from the start.

Better collaboration and business insights

Pros

Being able to view files, explore different collaboration ideas and learn ways to improve my business is something I really enjoy about Tableau Software. It also gives me a chance to connect with other business owners, compare which improvement ideas seem to work better and look through statistics to understand where things currently stand. Seeing what others have shared about their own business growth is especially helpful and gives me useful perspective.

Cons

One limitation is that the software seems to be focused mainly on reporting, collaboration and working with data files. I'd like to see it do more than just those areas so it could be useful for a wider range of business tasks.
