“Flexible analytics options”

Pros

This platform has been fantastic for getting data analysis done quickly and efficiently. It's very flexible and moving between different layers of analytics or drilling deeper into the data seems fast and easy.

Cons

It's definitely a more advanced tool so there's a learning curve if you want to fully master everything it can do. Navigating all of its capabilities isn't something that seems completely user friendly right away.

“Charts that look great in presentations”

Pros

Tableau is definitely a yes when it comes to making charts and graphs look professional and presentable.

Cons

At the same time, things can become messy and complicated and fixing them takes a certain level of understanding of the software.

Overall it has been really good for organizing data efficiently and sharing it across teams on different platforms. It works well for putting together basic reports without much hassle and when more advanced reporting is needed, there's plenty of depth to explore. The way it presents information also seems good which makes the data easier for end users to understand and work with.

Cons

Once you get into more complex reporting, there's definitely a steeper learning curve if you want to use the tool to its full potential. It's also on the expensive side, even though the features and overall value still make the cost feel justified. Exporting in the exact format I need hasn't always gone perfectly either but I have usually been able to find a workaround.

Being able to tailor all kinds of reports within the dashboard interface is a huge plus.

Cons

There are quite a few different settings and configurations to get familiar with.

Tableau remains one of the most visually impressive tools for building charts, graphs and rich, powerful visualizations. The training materials and support are excellent and the public version helps make the platform available to a much wider audience.

Cons

The downside is that it can be costly for organizations to adopt and there's definitely a steep learning curve when you're first getting started.

One thing that really helps in Tableau is how it seems to anticipate what the developer is trying to build based on the variables selected. It also makes it simple to experiment with different fields and quickly see the kinds of visualizations you can create.

Cons

That said, it still doesn't handle reporting as well as Cognos does and table calculations can be a bit difficult to work through.

Pros

works really well for business intelligence and presenting data in a clear, effective way. It's especially excellent for tracking KPIs and other key indicators that the company keeps a close eye on.

Cons

It doesn't offer a lot of flexibility when it comes to statistical analysis.

It delivers strong performance, is easy to use and offers impressive visualizations.

Cons

The after-sales support has room for improvement and getting everything set up and configured properly usually requires a dedicated IT team.

Tableau is pretty simple and the interface is easy to understand. The visual side is one of its biggest strengths especially the charts and other graphing options. Deployment to the server is also simple which makes sharing reports much more convenient.

Cons

One thing I'd really want to see improved is versioning for deployed reports. It would be very helpful if it offered a better way to track and manage different report versions after deployment.

The software is very easy to use and offers a wide range of capabilities.

Adding Tableau Server on top of it can get quite expensive.

“Publish quickly with great visuals”

Pros

Pulling data from worksheets and SQL Server is really efficient which is one of the best things about it. After that setup is done, getting it published or moved into production is pretty easy. The visualization features are also impressive especially when you want to build charts using simple techniques. I also appreciate the hover option since it can show extra detail for a data point through a calculated field or even an image.

Cons

At times, handling a very large volume of data can be challenging and it also lacks support for Google BigQuery. Because of that, you end up needing to do a manual extraction or rely on an intermediate data source.

Pros

Using Tableau is very easy thanks to its drag and drop interface and it doesn't require much coding knowledge to get started. It's really good for building interactive graphs and the data visualization quality is impressive overall.

Cons

The biggest downside is the price since it can be quite expensive. It also lacks version control and it's not the best option when it comes to deeper data analysis.

The interface is quite user friendly and most features are simple enough to figure out without much effort.

To get the best performance out of it, you'll want a fairly powerful computer since it doesn't run flawlessly on lower-spec machines.

Plotting even complicated graphs in Tableau is really quick which makes working with visualizations much more efficient.

It can be pretty particular and it takes a bit of time before using it starts to feel user friendly.

Being able to connect directly to my databases and servers, instead of being limited to just local files, is a big advantage.

One downside is that, unlike some other advanced visualization tools, it doesn't generate analysis on its own.

Where it gets challenging is the implementation especially when it comes to getting the data properly housed within the environment which has been an ongoing struggle.

At this point Tableau's capabilities are pretty well known and it's the tool we rely on most for data analytics.

There is a bit of a learning curve at the beginning though honestly I wouldn't really consider that a major complaint.
