My experience with ShopController

Pros

Their service is fantastic and super helpful! It's so easy to use and I highly recommend it to everyone. This has been the best experience I've had working with a system.

Cons

There's really nothing missing, it's almost perfect! I've had a great experience with this Shop Controller and the service has been amazing.

Why ShopController can help you

Pros

It's really user-friendly and easy to use. The customer service is always quick to help and super friendly. The training was easy and quick. I've been using It for about a year now and once I got the hang of it, I haven't run into any issues.

Cons

No issues at all. The customer service is always right there to help out if anything comes up.

Great tool for students

Pros

As a grad student, I've been using this software for my classes and I have to say, it's simple and effective.

Cons

Sometimes it feels like there's just too much going on. There are so many links and places to go that it can get overwhelming at times.

Worst program for shops

Pros

Honestly, I don't think this product is great. It's very slow and I couldn't even add a logo to the RO's, which was really frustrating.

Cons

It's not user-friendly, the system is really slow and the customer service is terrible.

I'm happy with it

Pros

I love how I can schedule all our work in one place easily. plus being able to track my technicians' hours and productivity really made a difference and helped me ensure their work was getting done.

Cons

I do love this software enough to justify the price but if I had to mention one thing I don't like, it's the pricing. We don't make much money and we pay a decent amount for this service. But still, I'll keep paying for it because I think it's worth it.

Awesome since I can access it anywhere

Pros

I can access records and monitor the shop even when I'm not there. This is a professional management system and I'd definitely recommend it to others! The best part is that it's super affordable for a small shop like mine.

Cons

For a small shop like ours, this management system works just fine. The reporting is basic but it covers the details that matter to me and my techs.

Pros

It is pretty easy to learn for the basics. Creating work orders and building new customer files is simple. The search function works really well when I need to look up old work orders. Shop Controller was great to work with in customizing our profile.

Cons

There are a lot of glitches that still cause us trouble after several years. The whole "Save and Close" thing is a pain and if you're busy and forget a step, it creates a backlog. Once you learn the workarounds, it's not as bad but the reports are basically useless for what I need. We also lose connection with the main servers a lot, which means rebooting the computer to get back online. It's a huge issue when you have a customer standing in front of you ready to pay. Transferring our data from the old version wasn't perfect either, so we still have to keep the old program running in the background to look things up. It's getting better over time as we build a new database, though.

I love using the program

Pros

It's super user-friendly. The customer support rep has always been there whenever I had any tech questions. We first started using the program when he started back in 2000 and we've since returned to it after a short break.

Cons

The newest version of the program is great but we've stuck with the older version because it's simpler and doesn't have all the extra features we don't need.

I'm a fan of the this software

Pros

ShopController is simple to operate and I always recommend it to my friends who are starting new businesses to see if it works for them too.

Cons

I really don't like how many steps it takes to download into QuickBooks and the payments don't even show up when you're downloading them.

Using Shop Controller since 2005

Pros

It's simple and easy to use and it keeps accurate customer files and history. It has everything a small shop needs and the features are clear and easy to access.

Cons

The biggest issue for us is the lack of detailed reports. We run a dealership and the reports on efficiency and productivity we need just aren't detailed enough in Shop Controller.

ShopController adapts with us

Pros

I really like that I can set up the program exactly how I want to use it. The reports and screen views are easy to adjust to meet the needs of our shop.

Cons

The challenge I've had is training my staff, especially the ones with weak computer skills, on how to use this system. It has so many options that it frustrates the beginners.

Version 8.3 works well for me

Pros

The 8.3 version is super easy for someone like me who's not great with computers. plus it keeps up to date with new vehicles.

Cons

One major issue is that it doesn't update part costs during the invoice process. We have to go back into inventory to update the prices every time. If we change the price on an invoice and close it, it defaults back to the original price for the next job.

Hands down the best

Pros

For the way we use Shop Controller, it's really easy to use. The layout makes it simple to see what I'm doing. The best part, though is the support. Any time we've had an issue, they're quick to fix it.

Cons

The only issue I have is with exporting some files but we're still running the original Shop Controller and Windows XP, so it's not really Shop Controller's fault.
