we have been using BuildIt since 2004, and it is an integral part of our day to day business

Pros

It's great for sharing information around the office; no more running to the filing cabinet for plans, specs, contacts, or schedules.

Cons

When I'm editing a schedule, the program doesn't let me edit multiple lines at once. I always have to refresh before editing the next task.

It has improved communication between sub-contractor, site supervisors and Longwood in many ways.

Pros

I've been with BuildIT for over 10 years. It's smooth and affordably priced. It makes daily tracking of our construction schedules simple. You can copy schedules from templates and tweak them as needed with BuildIT. Their document library saves me time and is easy to use and share with our sub-contractors and staff. BuildIT lets you add or edit documents to suit your needs. It also grants our sub-contractors access to all files and tasks for each job, including working drawings, sketches, and changes. They can add notes to tasks and upload files, inspection reports, and more on their own. I had a feature created by BuildIT that allows all my sub-contractors to enter their employees' names and details. They can also track mandatory Health and Safety training and upload certificates to BuildIT. You can configure BuildIT to give site supervisors full access to all schedules and documents for every ongoing job. With links to each sub-contractor's contact info, my site supervisors have all the necessary documents ready for Ministry of Labour inspections, like form 1000 and Health & Safety training records. Customer service has always been there to help, which has been rare, or when they developed new features for us.

Cons

BuildIT is crafted for smaller contractors like me. It has a few limitations when you're building between 25 to 80 units a year and managing 2 to 6 different sites simultaneously. Sometimes, I wish it was a bit more adaptable to my needs as a builder. But other than that, it works perfectly for me. My sub-contractors love it, my staff loves it, and so do I. I've done a lot of searching and occasionally check for new products, but I haven't found anything as intuitive, affordable, and suitable for our needs as BuildIT. BuildIT has been and will continue to be a crucial tool for our company for years to come. Thanks.

We have used it for years and have been pleased with it.

Pros

The software is intuitive and easy to navigate. Upgrades over the years have been thoughtful and relevant.

Cons

The only downside is that each user can see the others' info. This could be changed by purchasing multiple copies of the software, but we don't think it's necessary for our use.

I can monitor the progress of different sites in real-time, which is crucial since we usually handle multiple sites simultaneously.

Cons

I have to sign in to reply to emails when I get a notification from BuildIT. I usually don't bother and end up replying from my personal email account.

Pros

As a contractor building 20-30 homes a year, BuildIt helps our small team stay on the same page with this software.

Cons

There are some advanced features offered by competitors that would be nice, but they're ultimately unnecessary for a business of my size.

This software is so easy to use, and makes managing my business operations a breeze!

Pros

What I love most about this software is its adaptability to make any task achievable. From various reports to working documents to specific scheduling tasks, this tool is powerful for running a business effectively and efficiently. Buildit Systems is web-based, so you can access everything at any time, from anywhere with an internet connection.

Cons

Some of our documents contain a lot of information and touch screen options, so they take longer to open and save when updated. If those processes were faster, I'd have nothing negative to say. I can't really complain about the speed because of the time it saves in filling out the documents, so it's a small sacrifice!

Pros

It keeps our subs informed on how the job is progressing, when they need to be onsite, and how long they have to complete their tasks.

Cons

I'm not able to save changes back to the system without re-importing.

I love BuildIT-Systems! Very user friendly.

Pros

It just makes sense. It fits the construction flow perfectly. We could customize it for our building process, helping us track progress without missing a beat! The support staff is friendly and easy to reach when needed.

Cons

There are a number of limitations that I've encountered.

I find Build-it very user friendly and team is always available to help out if needed

Pros

I like how it integrates our emails through the software and that it's web-based, so you can log in from anywhere with internet access. No need to download the program onto a computer.

Cons

I can't say there's anything I really dislike about the software. There are always little quirks some people may not like, but nothing major. The only thing is that it's not available in app format yet, but it's coming soon!

This is a great site and the support is amazing and fast to respond

Pros

The support team ensures everything we need is on the home screen and allows customization for each user, making their job quicker. Each person can tailor their screen to what they need to see. It's easy to check what's been ordered by looking into the files, and the dashboard is a great addition. Adding subcontractors or suppliers to specific tasks is straightforward. Creating templates is easy to access and complete. We've used it for 5 years, and it keeps improving. As with any new program, it takes time, but the support team is fantastic, knowledgeable and always striving to improve the program. The company is pleased to have all the information at their fingertips, enabling everyone to see the exact status of a specific lot in the building process and update buyers accordingly.

Cons

There is not a phone app, which made using the online version a bit tricky for the superintendents in the field. You can't take pics from your phone and edit them. It does take some time and dedication to get to know the program, like any other. It's not easy to edit something once it's uploaded; any changes need to be made and then re-entered into the program. You can buy an additional program to do this, but it's another expense. Once you get used to it, it's a great tool for the company.

Scheduling and access to your schedule from anywhere, even my Android

Pros

All our jobs are small, with one person per job handling 1-3 jobs a day. BuildIt can handle an unlimited number of jobs. The search engine for job history is fantastic when a customer has a question. We attach PDFs, photos from workers in the field (via their cell phones), to the jobs or tasks within the job. Many of our jobs are for repeat customers in repeat units, usually a year or two later. Having records of every task completed in every unit we've worked on, including who did the work, photos, and PDFs of work orders, is fantastic. The system is very easy to use, and finding what you need is quick. There are usually several ways to find what you're looking for in the records stored in BuildIt. I love that you don't need special software or updates. I am very mobile, so any computer will work, whether in a hotel lobby, at a relative's house, the library, or even on my Android phone via a web browser.

Cons

There are some minor limitations because it's web-based, but you learn to work around what was comfortable to use before. Much of my challenge lies in email. For example, to choose who you're sending to, you have to click through the contact list instead of starting to type in MS Outlook and having it auto-fill. Again, the trade-off for the other benefits outweighs the web-based program's limitations. There's almost always a workaround.

Beacon Construction

Pros

It's relatively simple to use. It organizes information well and keeps everything together. It can be accessed from any machine, anywhere, making sharing information easier. Support is excellent, and the system keeps getting better.

Cons

It's a bit clunky, and you have to be careful with how you process and handle certain aspects. It needs some experience to fully utilize the system.

The one to buy!

Pros

BuildIT is easy to use, with templates, email, fax, and online schedules for all subs. After two years, I'm still discovering new features. Excellent customer support! I've never been asked to buy any support plan. Works great on a Mac, integrating well with Safari. The monthly and yearly pricing is affordable and easy to fit into a budget.

Cons

No smartphone integration, so it needs to import contacts from smartphones like the iPhone.
