Simple but efficient
Pros

What I appreciate the most about this software is how I can set up my project and then adjust or alter various systems or create line items and zones.

Cons

I'm not directly linked with Alpriser, so I have to manually enter all updates into the database.

Pros

The audit trail functions really well for quick line item take-offs.

Cons

I sometimes get confused by the tree menus in specifications and items. The names don't always match what I'm used to. Building assemblies the way I want can be tricky.

My Take on the state of current Auto Bid system
Pros

It offers estimators the flexibility to use a tool they can rely on for consistency and precision.

Cons

I'm frustrated by the inability to link Auto Bid Mechanical rapid reports with Auto Bid Sheet Metal in a way that works more than once.

Trimble Autobid a Great Product
Pros

On-Screen Take-off is excellent, straightforward to use, efficient, and accurate.

Cons

Lately, there's been a noticeable lack of software updates. The frequency of updates has significantly decreased, which has left me feeling that the software is not receiving the regular improvements and enhancements it needs.

Pretty good software, has some difficulties
Pros

The on-screen takeoff looks good and is quite intuitive once you get the hang of it.

Cons

I wish there were keyboard shortcuts for basic takeoff features. It would really speed things up.

Pros

I like how quickly I can complete project take-offs.

Cons

I don't like dealing with errors after calculations. The cost of 1-on-1 training is also off-putting. I don't like how the specs are scattered, requiring constant edits. And the lack of quick keys is frustrating.

Autobid Mechanical
Pros

Trimble AutoBid is a simple software to learn; I picked it up through WebEx courses and a few tips.

Cons

It doesn't update automatically, which leaves it prone to pricing errors. There are no security updates unless they're critical, and even then, I have to buy the service pack to complete the update.

Quick Pen / Autobid review
Pros

It's the most recognized sheet metal estimating software in our industry. I've been using Quick Pen since it was DOS-based with a digitizer and dot matrix printer, and the progress over the years has been significant. There are a few issues, like the inability to merge the plumbing version with the sheet metal version, which I thought would have been resolved by now, considering most shops using QP have both plumbing and sheet metal estimators.

Cons

Since our last update, we've been unable to work on the network. We have to exit the server, do the takeoffs, and then copy the summaries back onto the server.

AutoBid Mechanical Mid-Level User Review
Pros

The speed of performing a take-off is a major highlight. It's fast software with minimal lag. The database is decent, although it would be better with a wider range of prebuilt services available out of the box or for download. Setting up a new system with proper connectivity can be a bit time-consuming and cumbersome.

Cons

I can't customize Trimble Reports. There aren't good tutorials for customizing Rapid Reports to achieve the same look and output. I wish there were more specific advanced training videos or resources. A more comprehensive course would be helpful. I've figured out a lot through various methods.

AutoBid Mech/SM
Pros

It can be fully tailored to meet our organization's needs. The material database and list pricing are solid. The training provided is pretty good and gives a strong foundation to start. The ability to create assemblies that align with our local codes and methods is fantastic.

Cons

My biggest issue is that click accuracy can sometimes be off. More guidance on creating variable assemblies during training would be helpful.

Simple takeoff/complicated back end
Pros

I like how easy it is to do a takeoff. With the information it provides, almost anyone can prepare an estimate.

Cons

For the cost of the product, I expected more training support. The free sessions that come with the purchase aren't enough. After a few years of use, I've noticed many products are outdated and some systems and labor are just patched together. I'd like to see an update that refreshes my library with newer products and proper labor.

The best bang for my buck
Pros

The formatted reports and the data export functionality with Excel and Access are excellent.

Cons

The functionality of the menus is not always consistent across the software. Some features work with double-click, some with scrolling the mouse, and others with just the scroll bar. It can be frustrating.

Trimble AutoBid SheetMetal is a fast and feliable tool for HVAC material estimates.

The more you use it the easier it gets
Pros

This software is extremely easy to use, and as you become more familiar with it, it only gets simpler and quicker.

Cons

Navigating down to the tables in order to configure systems can become quite a monotonous and time-consuming task. The process of scrolling through the tables to make all the necessary adjustments often feels laborious and can slow down productivity.

Makes doing take-offs easy and reliable
Pros

I appreciate the ability to print reports sorted by different systems, areas, floors, or alternates. This way, I can break down different values or areas to get a better understanding of where our costs and labor are heading.

Cons

The only issue I have is with the sheet-metal program. It's a minor problem, but it lacks as many fields as the piping program, making it a bit harder to break down a bid.

Time Saver!
Pros

I recently started using this product. It's not very intuitive at first, but once you get to know how the system works, it's a time-saving bidding software!

Cons

It's difficult to learn and not as intuitive as some other programs (do this, then this, etc.), but I think once you get the hang of it, it's worth it.
