“Great product with great pricing
Pros
I love the clean and easy interface. It doesn't have any unnecessary features and the support is fast. The product just works in the background without any issues.
Cons
I would really like an agent for iOS. We are using other agents at the moment, but an iOS version is needed.

“Highly recommend
Pros
As an internet provider we are dedicated to blocking explicit content and pornography. Safe DNS helps us do that really well.
Cons
Sometimes it blocks content that is not inappropriate, but Safe DNS is quick to respond and whitelist a site if needed.

“A Super Product
Pros
This software was easy to install and it keeps our younger users safe from accessing unwanted sites.
Cons
Ive had occasional issues updating the software. It works smoothly on some computers but on others I have not been able to complete the update. I am not sure if its a problem with the software or an issue with our internet connection at the library.

“Content filtering simplified
Pros
SafeDNS serves as a reliable DNS based content filtering solution. The dependability and consistency are impressive.
Cons
While there are Windows and android applications there is no chromebook extension. This limits the effectiveness of our content filtering to the school network.

“SafeDNS is a better alternative to Cisco Umbrella
Pros
Installation and integration are very simplw. This service provides more flexible options like an extended whitelist of websites and is less complex compared to Cisco Umbrella.
Cons
The ability to disable content filtering for maintenance or troubleshooting had been an issue but an update has fixed it.

“Great way to improve the internet safety at home.
Pros
I required a simple and effective method to manage our home network and filter out unnecessary content online. Working in the IT industry I explored various options including locally installed software such as Qustodio and Net nanny. The challenge with all these locally installed solutions was the ongoing maintenance and performance issues. They also felt too intrusive. I was aware of DNS options and tried Open dNS. While it functioned it lacked good management options and scheduling capabilities which were crucial for me. With SafeDNS I can easily schedule between school or work time and free time automatically. I set up SafeDNS on the router ensuring coverage for the entire house including all mobile and wired devices. They do offer an app but I choose not to use it. I use SafeDNS on a DD WRT router. It is necessary to ensure the router blocks or redirects port 53 requests to prevent clients from bypassing the SafeDNS server entries. While Safe dns is not a flawless solution it has significantly enhanced our network safety without slowing down the workstations. Initially I used their web categories which were quite effective. The SafeDnS staff were always responsive when I requested changes to categories. Currently I am looking into using a whitelist only which has proven very effective in focusing our internet usage.
Cons
DNS blocking is not foolproof. At the same time it is relatively easy and economical to implement and specific problem cases can be addressed individually. Some users have discovered they can use TOR to bypass DNS blocking so I am currently exploring router updates to prevent that. Using a VPN will also bypass overly permissive DNS blocking. This is one reason I switched to using a whitelist. A suggestion for SafeDNS would be to allow categories to function as a whitelist instead of a blacklist. For example rather than allowing everything except what is blocked consider blocking everything including unknown or uncategorized sites except for those categories that are known to be safe.

“Great features and good pricing!
Pros
The centralized management of multiple accounts is excellent with ample customization options for the block page. We use SafeDNS on our customers firewalls including campsites hostels and garden center cafes.
Cons
It would be helpful to receive an alert if the service has not recorded any DNS hits for a certain number of hours. This can happen if a DNS record changes but I forget to update SafeDNS.

“Easy while powerful and always updated filter
Pros
Our clients are schools. We differentiate profiles for teachers and students using simpl NAT rules in the gateway. Additionally we can refine the filter by adding whitelists and blacklists for all customers even for individual clients through specific profiles.

No negative thoughts at all actually.

“Review of Safedns as a filter
Pros
When encountering a domain that SafeDns has not categorized they promptly categorize or recategorize it upon request. Downloading is simple.
Cons
The shopping websites Gumtree and eBay do not display pictures when SafeDNS is active. I asked for guidance on how to fix this but I could not make it work following the instructions. I would like more assistance on this and will need to discuss it in writing to resolve the issue.

“Affordable, Cloud-Based Web Filtering
Pros
I have been utilizing SafeDNS on the school network I manage for several years. Here are the advantages: First the cost is quite reasonable for educational institutions. Second implementation is simple for someone experienced in router configuration. Third the interface is simple with preset categories that are quite effective. Fourth the forced Safe Search for search engines and Restricted Mode for YouTube are great features for schools. Fifth configuration changes can be made from any web browser at any time allowing for remote management.
Cons
Currently the SafeDNS agent which automatically sends your IP information to SafeDNS is only available for Windows. macOS users are out of luck. For my application this is not a major concern because I have the network set up with a static IP but for those with a dynamic IP address the only way to maintain 100% filtering is to use the agent app.

“Constant issues
Pros
The product worked perfectly for a year but now I face ongoing issues with 2 to 3 outages every week. Support has only advised me to let them know if it happens again. I am under significant pressure from division managers to resolve this issue permanently. Unfortunately Safe dnd has yet to identify the problem so I am now looking for alternative providers.
Cons
The product no longer works and support seems indifferent to fixing the issue.

“SafeDNS is great
Pros
We are using this software for years and are very pleased with the outcomes. Schools and parents appreciate the safety this software provides. When I check our statistics seeing the protection offered makes us very happy.
Cons
One frustrating moment was when none of the students could access Teams. Once we realized that SafeDNS was blocking Teams it was a quick fix. Overall I am very happy with the program.
