versatile 3d scene posing

Pros

One thing that really works well in Daz Studio is being able to set up multiple 3D models in a single scene and pose them however you want. On top of that we can add different props and clothing to help build out the composition before exporting which makes the whole creative process feel much more flexible.

Cons

The one thing I'd still love to see is a plugin for this program that works with tools like Adobe Photoshop. PixelSquid offers something like that and it can really help speed up the workflow.

packed with content and tutorials

Pros

Compared with all the 3D programs I've used, this one has been the most simplest to learn. Also there are lots of tutorials available so it doesn't take long to get comfortable with it and the built-in lessons are especially well made and simple to follow. It also includes a large collection of human models, props, clothing and scenes to work with. The weekly freebies are a nice bonus too. On top of that, the site has a store filled with products from hundreds of artists and most of the prices feel reasonable. I've been using the website weekly since around 2009 and the software for about just as long and I've been very happy with what I've bought. It seems to keep great standards for the artists it allows on the platform so I've run into very few issues. And when something did come up, the tech support was excellent and left me satisfied. The forums are active too and the community is helpful.

Cons

A lot of the extra functionality does depend on buying additional content but to me that's only a small downside.

vibrant custom illustrations

Pros

One of the best parts of Daz Studio is being able to create illustrations you'd never find on stock photo websites and it does not require strong drawing skills to get started. Plus it produces very colorful, high-quality images that look really impressive.

Cons

That said it definitely comes with a steep learning curve. It can also get expensive if you want to buy enough add-ons to build a wider variety of graphics.

Blender bridge works beautifully

Pros

Because Daz Studio is free to start with, I was able to test it properly and make sure it could handle what I needed before spending any money. I have used it for years. At first, I relied on the Bryce 3D bridge to build my visualization scenes. More recently, I've switched to a Daz Studio and Blender workflow. Overall it has built a very good bridge between Studio and Blender which makes it easy to create and pose characters before bringing them into a Blender scene.

Cons

For what I personally use it for, it does the job well. The things on my wish list are mostly related to areas I only experiment with, not anything essential to my actual work. Sich as I'd like it to have a 64 bit lip-sync utility because having to switch back and forth between the 64 bit and 32 bit versions just to add lip-sync to an animation is frustrating. I'd also love to see motion capture offered at a more affordable price. That said none of these points are dealbreakers for how I mainly use it.

fantastic for 3d character creation

Pros

Daz Studio has been really enjoyable for 3D character modeling and putting scenes together is pretty easy and simple to work with. One of the biggest advantages for us is its marketplace especially because it offers so many free assets that are genuinely useful.

Cons

The interface and overall appearance of the software can feel a bit unpolished and not very professional. Plus some of the paid assets are priced quite high, even though similar items can sometimes be imported from third-party sources for free.

Has the best asset library

Pros

Whenever I need environments, props, clothing or even characters, DAZ is usually the first place I check. As the marketplace is excellent and most of the models are high quality while also being simple to export. I used to rely on FBX for exporting and importing but now I use the Unreal exporter tool and it seems to work well. Even so I still keep this tool as my main model library because assets can sometimes get a little hard to track once they're inside Unreal.

Cons

One area I still haven't really figured out is the animation side of it especially since I'm not very impressed by the results I've seen from others. Because of that I usually export everything into iClone and handle animation there since it offers more options and better resources.

flexible character morphing

Pros

Putting characters together is really easy thanks to the morph sliders and the newer Meta plugin.

Cons

The thing that bothers me is that some content does not work across all characters, whether it's Genesis, Michael, Victoria and others.

Fast learning, pro-looking characters

Pros

Getting comfortable with it didn't take long and it lets me create human figures and characters with professional-looking results in a very simple, streamlined way.

Cons

It does not givee full control over every detail the way other 3D software does.

Powerful animation tools

Pros

One thing I keep coming back to in Daz Studio is its very capable animation system which I use a lot for character animation work. The built-in muscle group flex feature is especially impressive as it is amazing to get something that advanced in free software. It also does a great job with posing and adjusting prebuilt models.

Cons

As I said, for a pro Daz Studio is great for adjusting prebuilt models. But on the downside, it is not the best for creating models from scratch. The software can also be a bit confusing to use at times and I have experienced a few crashes.
