I use it every day

Pros

Maya strikes a perfect balance between simplicity and complexity. I use it for everything, from creating 3D assets to building entire 3D environments. It always offers options that make the process much smoother.

Cons

I sometimes get frustrated when it crashes during the rendering process with Arnold but I understand it is something that cannot always be avoided.

Perfect for 3D modellers

Pros

It offers excellent 3D modeling, UV mapping and powerful retopology tools with integrated features like Xgen and the Arnold renderer. So I would say it is like an all in one tool.

Cons

Some downsides I noticed include navigation problemsm random crashes and an outdated user interface design.

An awesome all-in-one tool

Pros

Maya provides a wide range of features in one progra from modeling to texturing, plus baking and rendering. Overall it has everything we need to complete a full production pipeline.

Cons

The unwrapping features I feel like are a bit behind compared to software specifically built for that purpose but that's expected from a multi-tool software.

Close to Blender

Pros

One thing I like the most is the tutorials on the Home Screen as it makes learning easy, with helpful shapes placed at the top to guide you through.

Cons

It can be confusing at times as you can easily lose your file if you accidentally press the wrong button or enter incorrect coordinates.

Top software for design

Pros

In my opinion it is one of the best tools for creating complex 2D and 3D models. The software helps render high quality designs and its tools are more accessible compared to other programs.

Cons

The software sometimes crashes when dealing with high resolution designs which annoys me the most.

Quite expensive

Pros

Autodesk Maya has been essential for 3D modeling. I have used it a lot for various visual projects and it never disappoints me. It became a staple in the industry for a reason as it is highly efficient at what it does.

Cons

Unfortunately its high cost and paid updates make it less appealing compared to Blender. Blender is free and open source, offering all the features that paid software like Maya provides.

Robust tool

Pros

I would say this platform is more than just for learning animation, 3D modeling and visual effects. As it helps you develop your creativity by allowing you to create things like blueprints, storyboards, 2D animations, character rigging and even architectural designs. You can also install plug-ins and prepare models for 3D printing. Plus students can get a free three year license.

Cons

When generating high-resolution visual effects like explosions it can sometimes crash. Plus not all dynamic effects work together at the same time. So it can take some time for users to become proficient with the tools. Additionally it is expensive to rent and purchasing is not an option. The student version cannot be used for commercial purposes.

Its a complete package

Pros

Maya is an all in one 3D software that lets us shade, model, animate and render. Also it supports Python scripting through the API which makes it possible to create even more dynamic animations. Overall I find it ideal for creating everything from short animations to full length feature films.

Cons

While it offers many features still we cannot fully take advantage of the software without some basic knowledge of how to use it. Another downside is that it is very expensive.

Learning requires time

Pros

It has so many useful 3D modeling features. Plus it provides a wide variety of sculpting tools and a user-friendly rigging system.

Cons

The price is pretty high and learning the software is not as easy as we first expected. Also it has demanding PC requirements. As the screen can get cluttered with multiple windows so you might need a second screen.

Top software for professional film production

Pros

With this I can handle anything related to film as there are endless possibilities to explore.

Cons

You need to know everything about it before you make a decision to buy it. As it is not cheap and you will need the latest and best graphic hardware.

Classic tool for game character design

Pros

Maya is a comprehensive 3D design tool that handles everything from complex modeling and texturing to rigging and animation. Also it is packed with some great features and gets regular updates that introduce new, user friendly tools. Plus we can easily export our models to Unity 3D for game and VR development which makes it perfect for game character creation. Models created in it are compatible with most gaming and texturing software. And for beginners there are multiple tutorials available for help with basic modeling and animation. Plus a large support community for any technical issues.

Cons

It is a powerful tool which makes it difficult to fully learn in a short amount of time especially for beginners. Like it took me years to learn and there are still functions I have not mastered. As mastering it takes time due to its complexity. Also it is large in size, consuming a lot of storage space and requires a good graphics card to run smoothly on your PC. In short it is not suitable for low-end PCs.

Unmatched 3D modeling software

Pros

Once I get the hang of it I face zero trouble using it. So it might feel challenging at first but the more you use it the more you learn beyond what the course teaches. In my opinion it is one of the top animation tools. I studied it for five years and it has been an amazing learning experience for my digital career.

Cons

There is only one free version and it lasts for 30 days. I feel like it would be nice if there were at least a free version with unlimited features available.
