excellent tools for visual effects

Pros

Using Pencil2D has been a very positive experience overall. It also works really well in terms of usability, the tools are top too and the video editing features let me add visual effects nicely. On top of that, it is very user friendly and easy to work with.

Cons

One downside is that it depends too much on manual frame-by-frame adjustment, it does not include a framerate curve and it is not suitable for motion graphics work.

creative freedom but limited tools

Pros

Pencil2D really lets me be creative especially if I already know how to draw. It's a helpful tool to put ideas together in a simple way.

Cons

I feel like it could use more features to really stand out and the user experience needs to be more beginner-friendly.

fun 2d drawing tools

Pros

After trying a bunch of drawing and painting programs, I can say this one stands out in a good way. The 2D drawing tools are really good and simple to work with. I haven't tested the animation side yet but I am planning to give it a try very soon.

Cons

At this point I haven't come across anything I dislike aboutthe softwarebased on how I have been using it.

lightweight and quick to learn

Pros

Getting started with this software takes almost no time, even as someone completely new to it. It runs well on pretty much any hardware since it's very lightweight and being free makes it a really nice option to create traditional frame-by-frame animation.

Cons

A few of the finished animations can end up looking a bit rough or scratchy.

Pros

Being open source is a huge plus and the software is really simple to work with. The interface is also user friendly, the program is very lightweight for my system, it's completely free and it runs well on any operating system I use.

good basics, limited depth

Pros

The interface is simple and easy, moving through keyframes is effortless and the feature set is basic but still capable enough to get a lot done.

Cons

A few actions don't feel very user friendly especially things like rotating drawings. It also lacks options such as multiplying layers, making bitmap layers lighter and adding shading layers, so it may not be the best fit for more advanced animation work.

fast rendering for 2d beginners

Pros

Getting started with Pencil is pretty easy and the software is user friendly right away. The rendering speed is also impressive, even on slower computers and the frame rate performs really well. It's especially a top choice as a beginner who is just getting into 2D animation.

Cons

The interface doesn't feel colorful enough, so creating realistic color blending can be difficult.

free and beginner-friendly animation

Pros

Being completely free is a huge plus and the pleasantly simple interface makes it especially welcoming as a beginner. It also supports both vector and raster graphics for my needs and I haven't run into any annoying lag or slowdowns while putting my animations together.

Cons

This softwarerelies on a frame-by-frame workflow, so that's the way you'll be creating animations here. There aren't a lot of advanced extras or flashy features, although plenty of users may not see that as a downside.

quick results every week

Pros

Right from the start, this program was simple to find, simple to use and it helped me get my job done just in time. I use it regularly now every week and it makes it much faster to finish what I need to do.

Cons

I already knew it was a 2D software and I was mainly searching for something I could type in because Microsoft wouldn't come up. Honestly I don't have anything bad to say about it.

fantastic hand-drawn animation tool

Pros

Pencil2D is like a really capable and professional program to create 2D hand-drawn animations. The interface is simple to understand, so pretty much anyone like me can pick it up without much trouble. It's also lightweight which makes it run well on almost any operating system.

Cons

The tools, features and overall options inthis platformhave been excellent. I haven't run into any problems while using it and honestly I don't have any real complaints. From my perspective, it works beautifully without any noticeable issues.

beginner-friendly open-source animator

Pros

It is very user friendly. It's open source, works across different operating systems I use and makes a great choice as a beginner who wants to learn animation without much hassle.

Cons

It does have fewer features than some other animation programs and it's also not something that gets used very often by major studios.

fantastic start for animation

Pros

Pencil2D stands out because it's free and open-source which already makes it very appealing. The tools are simple to use, the interface is user friendly, the icons are easy and it works across multiple operating systems instead of being tied to just one.

Cons

One downside withthis softwareis that it doesn't include more advanced features. There could be better options for color effects, drawing tools, curves and similar functions. That said, this is not really a major issue becausethe softwareclearly is not trying to be the most powerful or feature-packed tool out there. Its real purpose is to provide a very good introduction to animation with vector drawing.

free 2d animation delight

Pros

Getting started with Pencil2D is really easy because the interface is clean and simple. Even someone completely new like me can learn how to use it within a few hours. It's a free 2D animation tool, so There is nothing to pay and I can even use it commercially without any cost. Another big plus is that it works across different operating systems and devices that I use. It also supports both raster and vector graphics which means I can animate either type of asset in the same application. On top of that, it runs quite well even on budget-friendly computers, so I don't need a high-end machine to use it comfortably.

Cons

The biggest downside is that animation has to be done frame by frame which takes a lot of time and patience. It also does not support 3D at all, so you are limited to creating only 2D animations. Compared with other animation programs, the feature set feels fairly limited and it is also not widely used by professional studios.
