“Fits our small collection needs perfectly

Pros

I find it super easy to pick up and use and I love that I can access it from anywhere. The interface is clean and simple and the tools are flexible enough to do what I need. Plus, it doesn't cost a fortune which is a big win.

Cons

The search function isn't exactly what I expected. I think I need to spend more time learning how it works especially since it's such an important part of the system.

“glad we made the move to CatalogIt

Pros

The fact that it's cloud-based is a game changer and we can check or edit stuff from anywhere, no matter what OS we're on. The app is really easy to use and the database handles a lot. What's really cool is that the public facing version updates right away, so we don't have to mess with republishing every time we make a change.

Cons

The only downside I've noticed so far is that I can't print directly to my Dymo Label printer. But honestly with how amazing and easy to use the rest of the program is, this minor issue doesn't bother me much at all.

What really stands out is their awesome customer service and how easy they are to talk to. The app itself is very user friendly which makes everything run smoothly.

Pros

I love that it works smoothly across different devices. It's easy to catalog from multiple spots and show off what we've got to others in the organization. Plus their team has been really helpful and always kept in touch throughout the whole setup.

Cons

It's such a powerful system that can work for variety of collections. Sometimes there are almost too many options, though. It'd be nice if we could hide or turn off parts of the system that we don't need for our institution.

“My experience with CatalogIt

Pros

Using it is just so smooth especially when I'm uploading photos through the mobile app. Everything in CatalogIt feels well put together, no annoying pop-ups or cluttered screens. Uploading to the cloud is very fast and I haven't had any issues finding my way around settings or profiles.

Cons

Some of the profiles are a bit hard to find through the search. For example, to change categories under the 'Location' tab, I have to search for 'location' to find the result for 'Location Categories,' but it's not listed under the main 'Location' tab which can be confusing for new users. Also, having to contact support to add new users could be a issue for larger institutions with constantly changing staff.

“Why start from scratch when CatalogIt's ready?

Pros

What I like most is how easy it is to use and how many features are packed into it. I didn't expect it to have this much built in, honestly.

Cons

If you've tried creating your own catalog from scratch using a spreadsheet or database, you'll find that the tools to import your data into CatalogIt are limited. Thankfully, the support team is really helpful and willing to assist.

“Works like a charm for smaller setups

Pros

It's easy and makes sense when I'm entering info and I can find my records quickly without any issue. The pricing is also really good for what you get in a full cataloging system.

Cons

I haven't found anything I don't like about it yet even after using it for several months.

It was simple to use. We were able to just dive right in and start uploading stuff without needing a bunch of training.

I'm still figuring things out but right now, we're just working on getting everything input into our document archive.

Pros

I got a license for CatalogIt to help manage my parents' huge contemporary art collection. The database is really interactive and it's so simple to add new pieces or update existing ones. The mobile app works great on all our devices and it's so easy to pull up artist details on the fly. It's been such easy to use and way cheaper than the ArtBase software we used before like 75% cheaper!

Cons

Some search functions could use a little improvement. I'm still learning the ropes and trying to figure out how to pull up specific works more effectively.

“How we kicked things off with CatalogIt

Pros

I volunteer and have experience using It, plus I've trained others on it too. I've already trained one of our volunteers on CatalogIt and it's been a much smoother process than with PastPerfect. It makes you stick to authority control in some fields which I actually like because it makes the cataloging more consistent.

Cons

I'd like the ability to limit the fields that catalogers can see because we don't use all of them. CatalogIt already limits some fields based on the type of item but I'd love to make some fields required or get a reminder if catalogers forget to fill one in.

“Really glad we chose CatalogIt

Pros

I spent a long time looking for the right cataloging software for our small community archive and library. This one's the most affordable and really fits what we need. We love how much info we can store, how materials can be cross-referenced and how it assigns ID numbers automatically. Honestly there's a lot about it that just works for us!

Cons

Migrating information from our old database was tricky but we got there eventually. It'd be really helpful if there was a template or guide for mapping all the different data fields. Sometimes we weren't sure which fields to use or how they worked. It's mostly not user friendly. Also, it'd be great if we could add or delete users without needing support for that.
