Super easy to use and integrate

Pros

I love the timer and the stop and continue feature which helps me record and keep track of project specs easily.

Cons

no cons...It was super easy to use and integrate and it really helped with budgeting for potential clients.

HIPAA compliant & but installation needs training

Pros

It's HIPAA compliant, so it's secure. Plus it can be integrated with major instruments for smooth electronic data transfer.

Cons

there was a lot of training involved for installation.

flexible and customizable

Pros

I have been a huge Orchard fan since 1997. the flexibility it gives us is amazing. I can customize pretty much everything. As a lab consultant, I've implemented a lot of Orchard LIS's because it's so easy and quick for staff to learn.

Cons

Since the new ownership took over, I've seen a big jump in pricing (interfaces, licenses, service). The invoices are super generic with no details even after repeatedly asking for itemization. The customer service feels old-school, leaving voicemails with no follow-up instead of emailing back. Data mining is not as strong as it used to be.

best for EMR integration

Pros

it does a great job connecting multiple EMRs, interfaces, medical practices, hospitals and more. When set up right, it processes results quickly and keeps a solid log, giving us a full view of order traffic.

Cons

it has patched together many solutions over the years, which can cause stability issues. It's not uncommon for us to need to restart their LIS server because of small hiccups.

QC module needs improvement

Pros

The software is pretty simple to use but it's limited by its architecture. Its QC module could use some improvement.

Cons

The Harvest LIS does not allow us to pull reports the way we need them. It's pretty limited in terms of flexibility and customization.

result sorting is inefficient

Pros

What I love most about this software is that it makes it so easy to track repeated samples, review patient history and update results.

Cons

At the certifying level, we just go through data until we find a completed sample. When you are getting results from different departments like we do, there's no tab that sorts completed results. We might pick an accession, find no results, then move on to the next one which also has no data and maybe ten samples down, we find something. There's an "Orders With Results" tab but it only shows results that are completely done, leaving out pending results from other departments. It makes our process slow and inefficient.

very Smooth integration

Pros

It integrated easily with our EHR software. This made getting lab results to the doctors easy. We can easily print labels, requisitions and patient demographics straight from the patient's account. We handle hundreds of patients daily and this system keeps everything running smoothly without slowing us down. The design is simple, so we can easily see what's going on. It also limits human error and saves us time by reducing the need to double-check things. The labels print out perfectly, ready to go on the samples.

friendly but could be better

Pros

this is a user-friendly LIS which makes training new users so much easier than with other systems. It's a reliable platform with a solid, high-quality interface.

Cons

I wish the rule-building feature was a bit more powerful. Some rules are limited to single-condition statements and it would be so much easier to write rules if we could use multiple IF/AND/OR commands. It's not a huge issue but it comes up sometimes.

Interactive commands with too many custom-built parts

Pros

Most of the commands, at least for the Copia part... are really interactive. It's super easy to pull patient reports and search for info.

Cons

What I like least is that there are a lot of parts of the software that need to be "custom-built." It feels like we can't be the only users who need those functions.

Top-notch support

Pros

From day one, the trainers.. the training program and the training facility were all top-notch. As an admin, I can customize the software to fit our existing workflow, create custom quality reports and metrics or get help from Orchard to set them up. The support is excellent with on-site assistance from installation to go live and the remote tech support team is available 24/7. Deciding to purchase it has been such a good move for our lab. We'll continue to use Orchard products as new features are developed to meet the growing needs of our lab.

Cons

the result approval process could definitely be more aligned for cytology. We are currently working with tech support to make improvements.

very customizable!

Pros

best part for me is how easy it is to write rules to customize the software for my needs. you can create rules for everything from order entry and label printing to result evaluation and approval. It's super flexible. And if I need help with writing those rules, the support staff is always there.

Cons

I used to complain about turnover in the support staff but that issue seems to have been resolved now.

easy to use with multiple task completion options

Pros

System is really easy to use and there are multiple ways to complete the same tasks. We use both Harvest and Copia products. The system was designed by Medical Technologists who have actually worked in labs, so they have a unique understanding of how things should work.

Cons

Sometimes building rules and setting up reports can be confusing but the support staff is really helpful when it comes to troubleshooting.

good tool but setup errors remain

Pros

it is really flexible and when set up correctly, it can be really helpful. you can generate reports from multiple instruments which is great for us.

Cons

support staff does not seem to know much about the software itself. The staff who set it up initially did it wrong and it has not fixed it. there are also some regulatory issues with how the system was set up in our lab like reporting different results for the same test on the same report.
