“helpful approval tracking but dated interface

Pros

Once supplier invoices were approved, they moved over to Microsoft GP quickly and I found that very efficient. Another helpful feature is the ability to generate reports showing how many invoices each AP person approved which I use for reviewing performance.

Cons

Getting around the system and finding information was not very simple. The message inbox was especially inconvenient because it didn't alert you when new messages came in. It could also run slowly, the interface felt outdated and not very user-friendly and there was no way to unmatch an invoice which is a really important feature to be missing.

“clear workflows for AR and AP

Pros

Using the product has been pretty easy and I appreciate how clearly the functions are separated. I find the distinct workflows for AR and AP tasks especially helpful.

Cons

It does run into glitches from time to time and because everything is so segmented, it can also feel a bit convoluted at times.

Pros

Initial setup was not very easy since it connects with other systems like Great Plains and I found that part a bit challenging. Even so, it handles many different functions well so overall I consider it a good solution.

Cons

Since it is connected to other software, mistakes sometimes happen and it's hard to tell where the problem is coming from. Some errors really require experience to understand their source. For example, I had an invoice submitted from a branch that I couldn't approve because the branch selected a different currency between the Purchase Order and the final invoice currency. I didn't know how to fix it and had to ask our web administrator to explain the issue and correct it. It would be much better if the branch could see that error before submitting so they could fix it in advance. Thanks!

“outdated features need updating

Pros

Using it is fairly easy and I find it very convenient that once installed, I can access it from anywhere.

Cons

Its features and modes feel outdated and really need a major overhaul. A lot of them are not compatible with certain software which can lead to lagging or even crashes. Because of that, it definitely needs improvement if companies expect to keep using it long term and feel like it is worth the time and money.

It fit in really well with the rest of our business systems and product sorting along with 3-way matching became a much more convenient part of the overall workflow.

Cons

Downloading reports can be a bit tricky at times and occasionally some features take longer to open because of speed issues.

Pros

It covers pretty much everything I need. I can pull all kinds of reports, check the deposit register, manage payments, handle POs and more.

Cons

Honestly I can't think of anything I disliked about it. It worked really well and was simple to use.

It helps keep duplicate invoices from being created which is useful for my team to maintain accuracy.

Cons

The software freezes quite often and having to restart it ends up wasting a lot of time.

“Great tool for construction workflows

Pros

From the way I used Epicor, the interface felt user-friendly, the workflows were well aligned and it offered a broad set of tools for handling construction and building materials business operations.

Cons

On the downside, Epicor is still a fairly complex system with a steep learning curve before you can use it comfortably. I also heard from our IT team that customization can be challenging and support may have some issues.

“document uploads save time

Pros

One helpful feature is the ability to upload supporting documents like sales invoices, vendor invoices and shipping paperwork, then export them later for our auditors. I'm not even sure whether that was built into the system or something we had customized but either way it saves us time and keeps complete documentation attached to each transaction.

Cons

Because this isn't one of the more common software options, it can be hard for users to learn. Exporting documents also requires setting a lot of parameters which adds extra work. On top of that, the exported files don't come out properly formatted so we have to spend additional time cleaning them up in Excel before using them for analysis or financial reporting. When technical issues come up, we also have to depend on a third party to get them resolved.

“Perfect fit for our industry

Pros

Working in the lumber and building materials business, Epicor is a strong match for what our company needs because it was built with this industry in mind. It also connects well with the accounting software we already use so information moves between systems in real time. On the analytics side, it covers our reporting needs nicely with customizable reports and the flexibility to build the exact reports we want to view.

Cons

Overall great but only one area that has been frustrating is the user interface which is not very simple and makes it easy to get lost jumping through all the different screens. We handle Accounts Receivable in the system and tracking down which sales invoices were paid with which payment can take a long time. That becomes especially tough during annual audits, when pulling supporting documentation turns into a major hassle because it can take 2 to 3 minutes per transaction. Once you multiply that across 300 or more records, it feels like an absolute nightmare.

It does a great job of storing historical data and I find the system supports multiple departments well, including logistics, accounting and sales.

Cons

Using it can be a bit challenging because the structure and reporting are fairly complex, with a lot of different sections to work through. It's also not a widely used system so the specialized knowledge you gain may not transfer easily to other businesses which could be partly due to the way it's formatted.

“buggy reports and confusing interface

One thing I did appreciate was the smart view reports and the recurring report feature and I found them useful most of the time. There are also plenty of options available and I usually found adjusting the report settings fairly easy.

Cons

That said the system feels very buggy and changing settings can be harder than it should be. Reports often take a long time to process and the interface is confusing and not always simple to work with. Overall it can be frustrating and confusing to use.

“Amazing fit for reporting

Pros

This tool has been a useful tool for us because it includes industry-specific features built around building materials businesses which I find highly relevant to our daily work. It also offers integrated capabilities, allowing me to connect it with our accounting software and pull together congreatated data for financial reporting. Another strong point is the flexibility in analytics and reporting and I can customize reports to show exactly the information I need.

Cons

Biggest downside is how complicated the software can be to use overall. It really isn't very simple so it's easy to lose your way while navigating through it and trying to locate backup documentation for certain transactions can be incredibly frustrating. In Accounts Receivable something as basic as figuring out which customer payments were applied to which invoices feels overly tough because we have to click through a long chain of screens to get there. Since the layout isn't very user-friendly, it took a lot of trial and error before we were able to consistently find what we needed. On top of that, there are occasional discrepancies between Epicor and our accounting software which is concerning when it comes to the accuracy of financial information. Thankfully, those issues don't happen often but they do come up from time to time.
