Excellent interface

Pros

The interface is excellent. I can find the commands quickly and it feels very visual pleasing and easy to use compared with other geoprocessing software. It also lets me attach several different file types. Right after startup, the most recent projects are displayed clearly which makes it easier to remember what I was working on recently.

Cons

I still think the "generate report" section and the "Print Layout" need improvement. The panel with the added "composition" and "item properties" is confusing and visually overlaps with other functions. Even for simple changes like adjusting font size, I have to hunt through arrows and tiny lowercase labels in the options menu which is difficult to figure out.

horrible implementation experience

Pros

there are no positives for me here. I will not be using this product again under any circumstances.

Cons

Getting it installed was incredibly difficult. As someone completely new to GIS, I ended up with a bunch of files that would not even open on my computer and just took up space for no reason. I cannot afford to waste my time dealing with something like this.

constant crashes

Pros

At least on paper, it seemed simple to use but that was constantly undermined by recurring issues.

Cons

Because it is open source, the software felt lacking in overall support and compatibility. I kept running into nonstop problems, including slowdowns, freezing and repeated crashes.

A great free and open source option

Pros

Being free and open source is a big advantage especially for students and anyone working on academic projects.

Cons

It does miss some tools that you can find in competing products like ArcGIS Pro.

powerful mapping toolkit

Pros

Packed with tools for mapping and spatial analysis. It works with a wide variety of data formats and the plugin ecosystem adds a lot more functionality when needed. I also appreciate how customizable it is since you can adapt the software to fit the way you work. On top of that the strong community support and detailed documentation make learning and troubleshooting much more manageable.

Cons

At first, the interface can feel a little overwhelming especially for beginners and the learning curve is definitely steep. Some of the more advanced features also take extra training or hands on practice before you can really use them effectively.

versatile mapping without barriers

Pros

One thing I really appreciate about this software is that it's free and works on both PCs and Macs so there's no need to deal with different software depending on the machine. It's also fairly simple to learn which makes getting started much less intimidating. On top of that the map creation tools offer a lot of layout possibilities so users at different skill levels can pick it up and start producing maps without too much trouble.

Cons

The interface feels a bit rough around the edges and isn't as visually polished as some other GIS platforms. It comes across like an older version of ArcGIS in terms of design. It can also be inconvenient on computers where users don't have permission to install custom downloads. And when working in 3D, the software can slow down a bit.

Pros

Offers no shortage of features and advantages. Working with geographic data from databases is quick and reliable and it makes it possible to create attractive maps for environmental projects. The final rendering is consistently well received.

Mapping features are powerful

Pros

There's a lot of functionality packed into it and the output quality is really strong. Being able to add maps and shapefiles is especially useful for the kind of work I do.

Cons

It's not very easy to pick up at first. A lot of the features have to be learned by looking up tutorials on YouTube or digging through forums.

QGIS review

Pros

I love how this platform lets me create, edit, visualize, analyze and publish geospatial information across any platform.

Cons

A downside is that the labeling interface can be quite confusing at times and because the software is fairly complex, it takes a while to properly understand and use.

reliable open source GIS

Pros

Being open source is definitely a strong advantage. I've been using this since my university days and it has consistently been a dependable option for both academic projects and professional work.

Cons

In my opinion, compared with other paid software, it doesn't offer such a wide range of tools. Still, it can be a very solid choice for anyone getting started with GIS software.

Strong open source toolkit

Pros

Having a free, open source program that already includes all the essential tools in one place has been one of the best parts of using it. I don't have to install extra software to get my work done which makes everything much more convenient. It also lets me download satellite imagery directly inside the platform instead of relying on outside websites and the automatic processing features save a lot of time and effort.

Cons

Up to this point, I haven't run into any issues or complications while using it.

Good choice if you have a tight budget

Pros

Love that its open source so anyone can download and use it without paying. That makes it a very appealing option for individuals or organizations working with tight budgets, as well as anyone who prefers using open source software.

Cons

At the same time, it does come with a learning curve especially if you're new to geographic information systems (GIS).

fast map design for site planning

Pros

It has become a really important tool for creating location maps and helping speed up my work. The interface is easy to use and it lets me produce maps within a short time. I mainly rely on it at work when identifying the area for a proposed company building especially to understand site access routes and check water availability around the location.

Cons

Although it is easy to work with and very efficient for map creation, installing and running it on 32 bit computers is much more challenging. That limitation makes it hard for many people to use and at the company where I work, most employees still using 32 bit machines cannot use QGIS because of this incompatibility.
