“Support and performance issues
Pros
Honestly speaking, I wouldn't be able to do my work without it. Because I have very limited use of my hands, it allows me to keep writing books and stay connected online. Even if my mobility improved, I'd still rely on it for editing. My process involves marking up printed pages, dictating those notes and letting it convert long sections of edits into text. This setup lets me work comfortably away from a screen which greatly reduces eye strain. I even dictated this review using it. Recording guided meditations and transcribing them later is another big plus and having multiple voice profiles for different recording sources makes a huge difference. Being able to replay recordings helps me double-check accuracy and keeps my workflow flexible.
Cons
Customer support has been disappointing. Updates are released fairly often and support for older versions seems to be withdrawn quickly which can be frustrating. That said, I'm still running an older version that isn't officially supported anymore and it continues to function for me. As someone who has used it for a long time, I personally haven't needed to contact support much but I know others might. The program is also quite memory-hungry and eats a lot of RAM. Occasionally when I click to start speaking it either doesn't respond or takes a long moment to activate and in those cases I usually have to reload my profile to get it working again. Looking forward, as AI transcription tools become more widely available and increasingly accurate, it will face growing competition for its transcription-from-audio-file capability. I mentioned earlier that I believe it is unique in offering both direct speech recognition into a device and transcription of recordings and it's also the only one I'm aware of that you can train to suit your own voice, but all of that could change over time.

“Outdated and hard to learn tool
Pros
With time, I noticed that voice commands perform quite well once I understand how they're meant to be used. From my perspective, learning those commands makes the overall experience much smoother.
Cons
I've found this software to be extremely dumb because it can't sense anything outside its immediate inputs which feels outdated in today's world. It desperately needs a huge overhaul and smarter behavior in its design. Even getting comfortable with it is challenging and requires significant effort to learn.

“Fast and efficient dictation
Pros
Personally, the dictation feature has been a game changer. It saves me from typing nonstop and lets me get thoughts down much faster and with less effort.

“Accurate medical transcription
Pros
After spending some time training the software and getting past the early learning stage, version 16 impressed me with how accurately it handled even medical terms. For my daily tasks, operating it became fairly manageable once I got used to it.
Cons
I spent more than $500 on what I was told was a plan that included free upgrades and ongoing support initially promised. About nine months after buying it I discovered it was using UK English rather than American English and I couldn't switch the output text back to American English. I rang customer support and they told me I would have to pay an extra $200 to get any help. Their explanation was that my customer support had expired after six months, so I would again be required to pay $200 to receive assistance. The $500 I handed over up front didn't even cover help from support. If you care about costs at all, look for another program.

“Windows 11 version underperforms
Pros
my experience with the newer DP16 version hasn't been positive. I haven't found any real benefits that stand out so far.
Cons
it's marketing promised improved recognition under Windows 11 but in my experience that claim is completely false, it's actually performing worse than version 15 in every way.

“Reliable speech recognition
Pros
I've been working with a transcription tool that analyzes speech, handles medical-related tasks and supports voice recognition. In my routine, those capabilities cover a wide range of needs.
Cons
Its a good program that makes many tasks much easier to handle, I haven't noticed any drawbacks, so I recommend it to others today.

“perfect tool for me...
Pros
Because I deal with severe arthritis in both hands, this software has been a huge relief for me. Without it, typing would be slow, so being able to rely on voice input has made daily work far more manageable.
Cons
Honestly, the main downside I can come up with is how expensive it is.

“Time-saving voice commands
Pros
Clear instructions on voice commands have helped me a lot. I can dictate from home and then move the text to my computer later which saves significant time compared to how I used to pass recordings to my assistant.
Cons
I have quite a strong Scottish accent, so it did take a while to 'train' the software to understand me properly. Every now and then I still try slipping into a home counties tone just to make things run more smoothly, even though it's a bit daft.

“easy setup with improving accuracy
Pros
From the start, setting up it Medical One felt very approachable. I was able to begin using it almost immediately and as I adjust settings and personalize it, the speech recognition keeps improving. Overall, it's been a great option thanks to how accessible the setup and training feel.
Cons
In my experience, it is a fairly easy product and I feel the developers are proactive in supporting it and resolving any issues that come up.

“Frustrating customer support
Pros
When I'm out walking, I often record notes and trust it to turn those voice files into text later. For me, that flexibility makes it easy to capture ideas on the go.

“Custom vocabulary improves accuracy
Pros
The feature I truly appreciate is the ability to teach the system specific words, including brand names, organizations and city names in other languages. That customization has made my results much more accurate.
Cons

“Adaptive transcription for content
Pros
Over time, I've noticed the software adjusts to how I speak. As someone who prefers talking through ideas instead of typing, it feels like a helpful partner that turns spoken thoughts into written content for blogs, websites and videos. I also value having access to it Anywhere, since it gives me options even when connectivity is limited.
Cons
I think the speech recognition accuracy, while impressive, could be even better. When you first start, the program has you read a passage at a natural pace and the recognition is tuned to that pace. In my experience, when I actually speak to develop ideas I often talk faster and add inflections and emotion and that quicker, more expressive delivery doesn't always get interpreted correctly by it.

“Productivity with advanced dictation
Pros
it's been a huge help in boosting my workflow. The speech-to-text is impressively accurate and the program adapts the more I use it, so accuracy improves over time. I also appreciate that it supports custom vocabularies and programmable macros which make dictation much smoother and faster for my tasks.
Cons
Although it Professional Individual is easy to install and get running, making deeper customizations later can be somewhat fiddly. I also feel the price is on the high side, still, I consider it a worthwhile purchase because it genuinely helps me cut down on time and boosts my productivity.

“Comfortable and accurate typing
Pros
Using this software has become something I truly enjoy. It's boosted my writing productivity and has relieved my wrists when I'm typing for extended periods. I'm really pleased by its accuracy with spelling and the way it autocorrects mistakes.
Cons
The one drawback I've found is that I had to devise my own solution to make the program function on a Mac. While it runs adequately, I would prefer if it were more easy and better supported on macOS.

“specialized vocabulary support
Pros
I find it can turn what I say into written text. It does a great job picking up clearly spoken phrases and I appreciate how customizable it is for unusual or domain-specific vocabulary entries.
Cons
Getting it installed took some effort and I discovered I had to be patient while climbing the learning curve. Still, after working through the tutorials, I found it performed quite satisfactorily for my needs overall.

Pros

“Productivity boost for audio
Pros
Over the past two years I've been using it and it's made me noticeably more productive at work. Using this software I can transcribe many more hours of audio each week than I would by typing on a qwerty keyboard.
Cons
Because I speak with a Caribbean accent, I needed to spend time training it to understand how I pronounce many words. The setup and training took a bit of time but it paid off. Now it picks up my pronunciation flawlessly which has improved its accuracy significantly.

“Accurate recognition with custom commands
Pros
I've used it NaturallySpeaking Professional Individual 14 for several years and have been very impressed overall. Its speech recognition is highly accurate and the option to build my own custom commands is outstanding. There's a lot about the software that works really well for me.
Cons
Unfortunately I ran into two technical problems that seriously limited my ability to use the program. Every attempt I made to reach technical support ended in failure which was incredibly frustrating. At one point they directed me to an independent service called JustAnswer, I paid roughly $30 for help but only one of the issues was even worked on and it still wasn't resolved. Overall the lack of effective support left me stuck.

“Price hike and compatibility issues
Pros
Using it was enjoyable at first but after just one year I was expected to pay three times the amount I originally paid for what they called an 'upgrade.' To make matters worse, the software became unusable for me because it wasn't compatible with the newer version of Windows.
Cons
Frankly, I'm shocked that Nuance expects me to pay $250 for an upgrade to a program I bought for $99 back in 2020. That kind of price jump feels unreasonable and it reflects poorly on their support for long-term customers. In my experience the software isn't even the top option anymore and their unwillingness to provide necessary updates to keep it usable makes me feel abandoned as a customer. Other users have described the situation as bordering on fraud and I can't help but agree that it feels exploitative. I'm done paying inflated upgrade fees, so I'm going to download and start using Windows Voice Recognition instead because it meets my general needs better and it doesn't cost me anything.

“Improves translator productivity
Pros
As a literary translator, I have to write as much as possible every day. Using it has boosted my output and relieved the wrist and hand pain I used to deal with. The speech-to-text flow feels natural and often sparks new ideas, I would recommend it to any translator I know.
Cons
When I work on very long files, I'd estimate anything over about 200 Word pages, it can slow down a bit. My usual fix is to create a fresh document and carry on, then combine them afterwards which isn't a huge hassle. Every so often it also struggles with unusual or foreign names and I end up having to re-teach those spellings multiple times but despite these quirks I still think the tool is well worth using.

Pros
From my family's experience, my father, who trained as a physician in the 1970s and now works without support staff, finds the software very easy to use and I've seen how much it Nuance has helped him.
Cons
I wish they made password recovery simpler, when I forget mine it shouldn't require waiting for customer support to call, instead of sending a reset link by email, the current process forces you to go through support staff.

“Time-saving dictation with AI
Pros
As someone who writes blogs and relies heavily on AI tools like Jarvis and Frase, I save a huge amount of time by dictating instead of typing. I depend on it because it integrates with my browser, supports corrections and macros and actually works reliably.
Cons
Support is a real issue, there isn't any email or chat option for help. The software itself is pricey and requires fine-tuning. I bought costly Bluetooth headphones only to encounter ongoing issues with it and it took me a while to figure out the Bluetooth settings for dictation that ultimately fixed it.
