eCounsel Features

eCounsel organizes matters, documents, contacts, and spend in a single matter-centric record. Standard fields and configurable screens keep critical data consistent across practice areas. Linked documents and notes preserve context, so attorneys and legal ops can locate facts faster and reduce duplication in daily work.

See How It Works

Invoices flow from outside counsel via electronic submission, then route for review by rules and approvals you set. Validation checks and audit trails reduce manual entry and help enforce billing guidelines, while Collaborati integration links firms to matters for consistent coding and faster cycle times.

See How It Works

Analysis Center and SAP BusinessObjects Crystal Reports surface spend, cycle times, and workload with interactive reports and a home page widget for quick views. Saved public and private reports standardize tracking, so leaders compare matters objectively and identify trends without exporting data to outside tools.

See How It Works

Microsoft Office integration lets users file emails and documents to matters from Outlook and Word, and approve invoices through an Outlook task pane. This reduces context switching and improves adoption because everyday actions happen where attorneys already work, with records linked back to the matter.

See How It Works

Single sign-on via SAML and role-based permissions support least-privilege access to matters, invoices, and reports. Administrators manage authentication, password policy, and module availability centrally. These eCounsel features help legal teams maintain compliance, reduce unauthorized access risk, and align user views to responsibilities without custom development.

Affordable but outdated data structure

Pros

It's pretty cheap and does what it's supposed to do. You could technically build it out to something more useful, but honestly, it's not worth the time or effort.

Cons

The back-end data structure feels ancient and outdated. It's not easy to configure, and even small changes require going through IT.
