A reliable and solid tool

Pros

GP is easy to use and does an excellent job tracking fees, disbursements, trust funds, and business operations. The range of reports puts our firm's finances right at our fingertips.

Cons

I really wish they would focus more on firms' compliance requirements especially FICA and POPIA.

A perfect five-star product

Pros

It saves so much time and takes a huge weight off my shoulders.

Cons

I tend to be a very skeptical person so this is more of a safety concern than a complaint but I do worry whether my data is secure enough.

Previous GhostPractice user, now rolling it out to 30

Pros

I love that it is a full practice management tool that prompts users to docket time whenever they perform a task whether it is drafting a letter, sending an email or making a phone call. Everything related to a matter is in one place, and from a lawyer's perspective, it is incredibly useful to see all financial details on a file, including outstanding accounts receivable, retainers and work in progress.

Cons

Some of the reports our team relied on were not available in the stock reports but the GhostPractice team was incredibly responsive and willing to recreate the exact reports we needed.

The best support team ever

Pros

Finding information is quick and easy, and generating reports happens instantly. Having used other software that took almost a day to generate reports, this is a game-changer. I also love having all file documentation accessible at any time instead of pulling physical files. The GhostPractice integration with Conveyancer/Unity is another huge advantage, no more manually entering dockets which saves so much time especially in our busy real estate practice.

Cons

There are a few features that could be improved. First, the ability to save PDFs directly to a file instead of saving them to a folder first. Second, the option to automatically designate the file owner as the split fee earner with the ability to change it if needed.

Perfect blend of practice management and accounting, plus great support

Pros

GhostPractice is a great mix of practice management and accounting software. Users can seamlessly access their files and docket at the same time, and it is incredibly user-friendly. If we ever run into difficulties, the support team is just a quick call or email away, they are highly responsive, knowledgeable and always helpful. As a Firm Administrator, I really appreciate the customization options especially the ability to create custom fields for tracking deadlines, checklists or specific file procedures. Custom reports can also be generated easily, pulling relevant financial and case data. Unlike other practice management software that limits you to working on one file at a time it allows multiple files to be open simultaneously, which is a huge advantage when juggling different tasks. The financial reporting tools make it easy to get a clear picture of our firm's financial status at any time.

Cons

When I first started using this, there were some things I felt were missing. However, with help from the trainer and support team, I found alternative ways to accomplish what I needed using the existing tools. Occasionally, we have come across small bugs, but the support team is always quick to help. I also really appreciate that it keeps track of feature requests from firms and considers them for future updates.

A strong, trustworthy software

Pros

The financial side of the software is fantastic. It takes some time to learn but once you use it regularly, it becomes second nature. I like having both file and financial management in one place, it is reliable and effective.

Cons

The file management side would really benefit from a preview pane for emails and documents instead of requiring users to open each one individually. It also needs a key date reminder feature. On the financial side, it is a bit restrictive so you cannot simply delete an incorrect entry. Instead, you have to process a negative transaction to correct even a small mistake.

It does exactly what it claims

Pros

What I appreciate most about GhostPractice is that it simply does what it is supposed to do, no unnecessary complications. Many practice management tools claim to enhance efficiency but this is the first one that actually delivers. Our experience with installation, data migration, training, and support has been smooth and hassle free.

Cons

If there is one weak point in it, I would say it is the user interface. While it works fine, some users might find it a little outdated and in need of a refresh. Additionally some of the terminology reflects its South African origins, and making it more market-neutral would help. A tighter integration with Outlook would also be a welcome improvement, it already works with Microsoft but making it even more seamless would be great.

Ghostpractice offers endless possibilities

Pros

The easy access to information is a huge plus. At any time I can check the firm's performance, as well as individual user performance. The reporting options are endless. Since adopting this document management software, we have far more oversight over our files, making workflow management more transparent. Task management is key and now anyone can review a file, understand its status and know exactly what needs to be done next.

Cons

Not really a con, but something to be mindful of is everyone has to be open to change. Like with any software transition, we had to let go of old habits and adjust to a new (and better) way of working. Everything our old software did, GhostPractice does too (and often better) but sometimes features are in a different place or labeled differently. Getting everyone on board from the start made the transition much smoother. That said, the high level of customization can have some drawbacks. While it is great to customize workflows for each department, it makes reporting more complex. For example in a Family Law practice you might create separate departments for negotiations, collaborative law and court cases. This improves workflow and document management but also requires running multiple reports to see overall performance.

Commendable ease of usage and amazing customer service

Pros

I love GhostPractice's user interface! it is simple to use and their customer service is outstanding. I have been using it for over a year, and it has never crashed.

Cons

Like with any new software, there is a learning curve. Once you figure out where everything is, it becomes really easy to use.

Makes time tracking and billing easy for lawyers

Pros

One of our top priorities was ensuring lawyers could efficiently track their daily time dockets, and GP handles this seamlessly. On the accounting side, it also allows us to generate monthly invoices directly within the platform unlike other options that require additional software for billing and accounting.

Cons

On the billing side, it would be extremely helpful to move multiple dockets from one matter to another instead of having to do it one by one. also from a timekeeper's perspective, having a monthly calendar view of progress toward billing goals (instead of just a list) would be a great addition. This is a feature from PCLaw that I really miss!

Gp is intuitive, customizable and easy to train staff on

Pros

The software is highly flexible and extremely customizable. The interface is easy to navigate and training staff to use it has been a breeze.

Cons

As a debt litigation firm, some functionalities were not a perfect fit for our needs, which is not unusual for pre programmed software. However the team worked closely with us to find creative ways to use existing features to meet our requirements.
