What Is Video Investigator?
Cognitech Video Investigator software is the leading forensic platform designed to restore, analyze, and authenticate degraded digital video evidence. It tackles critical pain points in investigations, such as proving media integrity using the integrated Hash Tool and EXIF Tool, which save MD5, SHA-1, and SHA-256 values for authentication. The application of these tools ensures a verifiable chain of custody, which is non-negotiable for evidence admissibility in court.
Video Investigator Pricing

Video Investigator Features
This filter is essential for achieving legal compliance and efficiency by automatically blurring human faces and obscuring sensitive markings like tattoos across video frames. This feature prevents the necessity of tedious manual, frame-by-frame redaction, which is typically required for the public release of surveillance video by municipal or government regulatory bodies, significantly accelerating operational throughput.
The patented Adaptive Deblur filter uses Interactive Blind Deconvolution to remove complex, non-linear blurs, solving problems when the exact blurring function is unknown. ADF computationally estimates and visually fits the motion path, which is crucial for clarifying evidence from highly unstable footage, such as body camera video or dashcam recordings involved in vehicular motion or physical altercations.
This Cognitech patented Super-Resolution methodology enhances resolution by intelligently integrating information from adjacent frames to recover lost image details. FrameFusion® removes dynamic noise and is highly effective for clarifying fine features, such as license plate numerals and markings on subjects, even when in motion, achieving results standard averaging methods cannot.
The integrated Hash Tool validates data integrity by providing MD5, SHA-1, and SHA-256 hash values, ensuring the original video data remains untampered throughout the analysis process. The companion EXIF Tool simultaneously provides critical metadata, including time codes and GPS locations, essential for establishing the file's origin, format analysis, and maintaining forensic chain of custody.
This general image processing method, first conceived by a Cognitech co-founder, efficiently removes noise and random fluctuations caused by poor lighting or sensors. By retaining image edges and minimizing visual artifacts (like ringing) associated with conventional processing, the Total Variation filter preserves the evidentiary clarity of fine features in degraded surveillance footage.
