Pros

During my time as a teacher Schoology proved to be an invaluable tool for engaging students in the classroom. It offered convenience and ease in sharing resources like notes and websites as well as creating interactive lessons with embedded videos. I particularly appreciated its ability to facilitate computer-based activities such as scavenger hunts and provided a platform for assessments exit tickets and review materials. The seamless integration with e-school made grading a seamless process. Schoology truly made a positive impact on student engagement and learning experiences in my classroom.

Cons

One aspect I found challenging was setting up answers for questions particularly when wanting a more open-ended response. Although they do provide options for rubric grading there is no built-in capability to grade on a curve. This means that even though grades can be directly loaded into the school's system administrators expect you to manually adjust student grades separately. Despite this Schoology consistently adds new features to make teaching easier. Additionally they offer two different types of assessments although one of them is not as user-friendly as the other.

The software offers a wide range of features that require users to invest time and gain experience to utilize them creatively. However a convenient link to pop-up gifs would serve as a helpful reminder and allow users to take full advantage of the available tools.

It impresses with its user-friendly interface for both teachers and students streamlining course creation and management. Tracking student progress and grades is a breeze while the platform's folder system and diverse content options ensure easy navigation. Schoology's versatility and intuitive design make it a standout among other Learning Management Systems I've encountered.

Throughout my experience with Schoology I have witnessed numerous updates that effectively addressed my concerns. However I should note that some of the challenges I encountered were not directly attributed to Schoology itself but rather related to other systems we use such as single sign-on. The main issue stemmed from students lacking their login information which hindered their ability to sign in. Schoology's performance has been commendable and their continuous efforts to enhance the platform have been evident.

Some useful features are missing such as feedback for new assessments and reporting capabilities for the gradebook especially in the context of remote learning.

The abundance of customizable features and functions in Schoology presents the biggest challenge. While the basics are relatively easy to grasp fully exploring and understanding the product's capabilities requires time and experimentation.

What sets Schoology apart is its seamless integration of multiple external tools within a course. With Schoology teachers can effortlessly embed videos apps and other resources directly into the platform providing students with a centralized access point for all their learning tools. This feature whether it's integrating FlipGrid Padlet or EdPuzzle has been a game-changer for both educators and students enhancing the teaching and learning experience.

Cons

As Schoology users we have encountered a few minor issues worth mentioning. One notable limitation is the absence of a feature that allows teachers to force-submit quizzes and tests on behalf of students who forget to submit their assessments. This creates a challenge for teachers when grading as they rely on students to manually press the submit button. Additionally another difficulty arises from the inability to rotate pages in document submissions which becomes problematic when students upload documents horizontally that need to be read vertically. Lastly the order in which Schoology displays multiple-page assignments based on their size rather than the order they were uploaded adds complexity to the grading process. Overall these issues though small can impact the user experience and workflow for teachers.

Schoology seamlessly syncs with Google Drive allowing easy access to Nearpod and EdPuzzle content within courses. It also integrates with the District Gradebook for convenient grading. The personalized folders and assignments feature enhances individualized learning. The student completion tool promotes accountability. Additionally Schoology enables the embedding of teacher videos eliminating the need for students to navigate away from the platform. It offers customization options like course and profile pictures color-coded folders interactive classroom announcements with Bitmoji and interactive buttons. The calendar feature is great for scheduling meetings and sharing with students and educators. Schoology caters to learners of all ages.

Cons

The growing adoption of Schoology by districts worldwide can sometimes result in slower software performance. It would also be great to have the option to personalize folder colors.

“A Full Service LMS Offers So Many More Options”

Schoology serves as our district-wide Learning Management System (LMS) and since transitioning to it last year it has become my go-to platform for almost all of my course work. As an advocate of the flipped classroom model Schoology enables me to effortlessly share lecture videos assess student understanding assign tasks and communicate with students and parents. The platform ensures 34/7 access to all course content allowing for various presentation methods and real-time updates. One feature that excites me is the Google Assignment App which simplifies document sharing and ensures students always have the latest version. Schoology's completion rules empower students while keeping them on track and the ability to add images to pages updates announcements and folders enhances visual information and supports student guidance. The platform's hyperlinking feature is also invaluable.

Cons

While Schoology has made commendable updates I do wish they would accelerate the pace of their advancements. For instance they introduced the "Assessments" feature to eventually replace "Test/Quiz" but even after two years it still lacks certain essential elements like individual question comments auto-correction and a question test bank option. These missing features hinder its full potential and limit its effectiveness for end-of-unit assessments and semester exams.

I'm impressed by the range of features available but due to a recent merger the conferencing app is temporarily unavailable. However the excellent customer support team assured me that they are actively working on it.

Navigating through this app proved to be quite challenging. Despite knowing the exact folder name locating the desired content involved an arduous process of sifting through numerous nested folders. Moreover the interface itself was not intuitive and posed difficulties in understanding its functionality.
