“can someone explain what this is?
Pros
Honestly it is the worst. You pick the right answer and it tells you it is wrong. It is just ridiculous and it is laughable that schools actually pay for this. If you think it is good, I do not get it. It is useless as I might prefer just sitting there and staring at a wall all day rather than using it.
Cons
As I mentioned before, even if you pick the right answer it says you are wrong and the crab is just too much. My school spends like $5000 a month on this and that's just sad.

“Perfect for students and teachers
Pros
I really enjoy how easy it is to assign materials for my students. Also it lets me focus on areas they need extra support with and I have seen noticeable improvements in their overall skills.
Cons
One thing I really dislike is that sometimes I have to manually adjust student accounts. Also there is an issue with Clever integration that has forced some students to log in through an alternate method.

“Quite helpful for learning
Pros
Study Island is a powerful tool for creating your own mini lessons and quizzes. While you can use it right away, let me tell you that it works even better when you customize it to match your specific curriculum and student needs.
Cons
The question bank is very limited for each standard which makes it tough if my student needs extra practice. Eventually they will just keep seeing the same questions and that is not helpful.

“An underrated gem for extra learning
Pros
The thing I like the most about it is that there are a lot of lessons available for every grade, subject and more. Plus it is fully aligned with Common Core, U.S. and state standards and everything is very well organized.
Cons
I wish all the lessons had videos but I get why that might not be possible.

“This is really bad
Pros
Wait, are you serious that you are asking about the pros from me? This is nothing as it is just terrible. I mean who in their right mind would create something like this?
Cons
The crab, the board, the questions, everything honestly, there is so much wrong with this. First off there is no feedback at all. Second you are forced to guess and then it asks, Are you guessing? That is just awful. They better shut it down or I will take matters into my own hands. This is pure trash and schools do not actually learn anything from it. Everything is just too complicated and I absolutely HATE it! And do not even get me started on that crab. It just gives bad feedback and it is hard not to completely despise it. Plus the person who recommended Study Island was wrong as it is terrible.

“How does one site manage to be this frustrating?
Pros
Honestly there is nothing good about this site, not a single thing comes to my mind.
Cons
I have been using this for 3 years now because my school district requires it and let me tell you, every student I know hates it. Sometimes the questions are so confusing that I get them wrong and then that crab mocks me. The questions are poorly formatted and some are just wrong. When you get something wrong, it messes up your grade and it is impossible to get a grade above a 91. Also if you want to reset the lesson, you cannot. You have to go through it all again. And if you go too fast it literally stops you with a message asking, Are you guessing? I mean Seriously? Why cannot they just add a reset button? It is ridiculous. $180 for one student for this garbage? No way it is a total rip-off. After 3 years of this, parents don't let your kids do this and schools stop assigning it. So Study Island fix your broken system.

“Hate it!
Pros
Nothing works. It is simply the worst and I must say they should make the fixes as soon as possible. Otherwise they are doomed.
Cons
That stupid crab. If you are using it, I would say get rid of it already.

“Simply the worst
Pros
Study Island does not offer any help at all. I would say avoid it at any cost.
Cons
It takes my parents, my college level sisters and me forever to try and figure out the questions. We try a hundred solutions and nothing works. Finally we pick what we think is the best answer but it is still wrong. The explanations just say our answer is right because it is.

“I seriously hate that crab!
Pros
This site is absolutely terrible as there is nothing redeeming about it. To me it is a disaster and an embarrassment.
Cons
I am about to completely lose it like I cannot stand that crab ANYMORE. I am seriously going to crush the next crab I see out of pure frustration. As I am ready to unleash my anger on this ridiculous thing. The people who designed Study Island have clearly lost their minds. This crab is a menace, a real threat. This is your one and ONLY warning. So fix it or I will take care of it myself.

“Students love the clear data provided
Pros
Study Island software is simply the best for analyzing data and sorting students into groups. The kids enjoy using it on the computer and you can choose if you want games to be part of the lessons. Also it is great because students can track their own progress and get immediate feedback. Often they tell me their scores before I even see them. As a reading specialist, it is so easy for me to see what my students are doing in their main reading classes. Plus the Clever extension sync makes it even easier since there are no passwords to worry about.
Cons
Sometimes it is hard to tell where Study Island ends and Edmentum starts. And though it might be the best practice we have for state testing but honestly it is just not good enough for me.

“An amazing extra resource
Pros
I really like that it is based on standards and adjusts to fit each child's individual level.
Cons
Well I do not like that there is no science for lower grades. As that would really be helpful.

“Perfect for encouraging students to study
Pros
Study Island is quite simple for both teachers and students to use. Also it provides tech based assessments that really engage my students and help them track their progress.
Cons
I wish there were more skill assessment options that were not so focused on tests.

“Really useful tool
Pros
It is so easy to assign assessments to my students. Plus it is a great tool for prep and it even has mini lessons that students can watch. And it is awesome for printing resources and comparing to standards.
Cons
Creating quizzes takes a while and requires exporting them to Word but the good thing is that we can then edit them to fit our needs.

The good thing is that it lets me pull useful teaching resources that are perfectly aligned with standards.
Cons
A few things I have noticed are that navigating through it is quite tough and creating tests takes a long time.

“By far the worst way to learn
Pros
What do I like about it? Well there are a few things such as it is in English mostly, it is web based and it has mostly multiple choice questions. That's about it.
Cons
Everything else is bad. The content is often unclear and questions that clearly have a correct answer get graded wrong. It is obvious no one double-checked the questions and answers. The information is inaccurate and it frustrates our students so much.
